Pity, but I have LOTS of lids...gathering dust...as I often get a turtle or 2 that comes in a tank...with lids, and I dont use lids for the turtles. They cause condensation which leads to breathing and shell rot issues for them. So I have a nice selection of unwanted lids of all shapes and sizes. Maybe find a local rescue turtle rescue with lots of unwanted lids!

Phew, thats a relief! Good to clarify though Organism doesnt tend to stock much turtle food nowadays. They did order some in for me once, but I tend to go somewhere closer to me now. Looks like it will have to be animates for you then. Buying a kilo is more economical in the long run if you can afford it

I was at work and driving around from place to place with no street lights, no intersection lights and knocking on doors in total darkness was NOT nice! Internets been out until a few minutes ago.... one thing I always seem to loose with the quakes but tanks are all OK. ....and we just had another wee shudder....plus a couple of others after the 5.3.... mmmm :tears:

Yes, Skippys right A tiny turtle needs a pretty constant temp of 26 deg C No question is stupid...it just tends to be the way some people choose to answer it that is stupid :nilly:

I still need some small size exo tera clamp lamps to replace the ones that fell in tanks and exploded if anyone can find them in Welly?? I tried to dry and re-use...but all started to fall apart

You are close to the Selwyn St artesian well at South Intermediate school. Selwyn St runs parallel to Barrington St and Colombo St...you can get on either Barrington or Colombo and turn into Milton St and you can find Selwyn St. Head down Selwyn St, away from the hills, and the school is very close. Apparently its particularly pure water there

HUGE THANK-YOU to Erica, Dena and Gareth, Debs and Tim for spending time here on Sunday...(in the rain and hail!)...doing water changes, tank cleans, removing broken glass, moving tanks around to set up new ones and generally helping me get a bit more sorted for the continuing influx of earthquake refugees Its made a huge difference and there are now 2 large females set up in Alans 5 ft tank in my conservatory. I worked out I've had 27 refugees since the quake 2 have gone to the coast, 1 to Waimate, 8 joined the mass exodus to Napier aquarium and theres 16 here.....at the moment....so far....

Christchurch South Intermediate School on Selwyn St has open access to a tap/hose from an artesian well. Gates are open 24/7 and apart from having to collect it, you could have as much as you like without treating it. Theres even a light on in the shed the tap is attached to so you can collect after dark.

You can throw them in one of my empty turtle ponds for a temporary home. I have someone who tops them up with artesian well water as needed so no problem with chlorine.

Yes the Worsleys Rd one was very close to me :tears: Have just walked in from work and ready to relax...and theres another one!! There go the sirens again...

My chq had arrived a few days before the Feb quake.... I finally got it in the bank yesterday...pity there will be LOTS more damage to assess this time

I have spare tanks in the garage now that all the turtles are gone. Have you got the skinks etc in Geraldine? Also have 2 heat lamps (Hanging) and a heat pad too if needed but cant keep them here or help transport them I'm afraid.

VERY quiet...I had no idea they made noise in the tanks till they are gone....

Some positive things happening :happy1: Thursday night I contacted Chris in the North Island asking if he could house 3 particular turtles if I could get them to him. I was very concerned that the lack of water may see these particular ones die. He phoned back saying he'd been talking to the national aquarium up there about my plight and they could take ALL the turtles until things got back to some sense of normality. I was shocked! Still am.... So next was how to get them from here to Napier? Friday Chris rang back..he'd talked to Air NZ but it was going to be very expensive. Next call was to say it may happen and to get ready. Cherie and husband were here delivering 1,000 litres of clean water into tanks on the garage floor and help me move some fish tanks back into place that had 'slid' off their bases! I hadnt even eaten today and it was all full on. Counting turtles to check they all out of ponds and putting in boxes. Trying to put felt pen marks on shell of ones who are unwell. Fielding yet more ditressed calls from people with broken tanks... another turtle delivered and the people that bought her asked to go to a house and collect yet another turtle....A couple arrrived from Waimate to collect the turtle that came from the public hosp last night....and off load many bottles full of clean water....then another call to say Chris had been in contact with the CEO of "Mainfreight" and they were in discussion about how to transport. The most horrible thing is that all livestock transport has been stopped due to movement of bodies :tears: They were possibly going to truck turtles to another city down south and then on a flight North. Another call and Dave bringing the 4 turtles from the Southern Encounter Aquarium in town...then more turtle distress calls.... then at 12.15 I was told to get turtles to the airport by 1pm, repack them at the airport into poly boxes and they would be transported...FREE...to Auckland and then transferred to Napier and arrive at 8.30pm. I barely had time to think! THEN... a call from a TV crew who are doing a documentary for TV to be shown later in the year about the plight of the animals (Associated with the SPCA)... so they arrived at same time as 4 turts from Aquarium...trying to finish rearanging, counting etc and loading all the boxes into my car...and the car of people from Waimate ...then guy with TV camera jammed in my car too and off we go to airport! THEN... I had to transfer turtles into poly box, trying to sort a box of 'small' , "sick", "special"etc etc ...including my beloved Mnnie and then lids on and having to say good bye....Feeling numb and exhausted....say bye to everyone and drive home alone... a 20 min journey took over an hour due to earthquake damage and traffic....used 2 bottles of the cold water from Waimate to wash my hair etc. brrrrrrrr and go to work! Already have one turtle deliverd while I was at work and 3 tomorrow... but suddenly I have sooooo much space. Its so quiet here now. I feel such a sense of relief but also miss my babies terribly! They will be back, but who knows when :dunno: Cant believe it happened and if I get too many more then we may do it all again!!! I cant thank Chris enough for taking the reins and helping out in such a practical way Now I can start to look at my house and begin to put things in place ready to take on the new turtle victims of this quake.

45 turtles on plane to Chris (Hot House turtles)and Aquarium in Napier...off to work now, talk later

I need to get hold of Dave from aquarium...cant find his numbers in the mess. I need to get the turtles from aquarium here asap.... hopefully having mainfreight get ALL turtles to Napier to Hot House and Aquarium but need to be at airport by 1pm and get turts packaged etc. Help please
