  1. I think it is best planted in the substrate, because I've never seen it grown on bogwood before and it is a root feeder I think.
  2. Every time I've had any species of Dwarf Cichlid I have always just got a male and a female, and they always pair up. I thought that rule was more for larger species like Jewel Cichlids and Angelfish? I just wondered do you guys have any female A. viejita instore currently?
  3. Wow looks beautiful I'm a bit confused though - Green reineckii? It only comes in red. It might be normal Alternanthera reineckii grown under low light, or Ludwigia glandulosa that has been grown under low light, or it could be a type of Hygrophila. Also can Hrydrocotyle verticillata be grown successfully on bogwood like that? It looks very cool I sent your plants today. I had to use a large yoghurt container to fit them all in, and it cost $6 to post them I basically gave you half of the plants in my tank My tank looks a lot more empty and tidy now
  4. Well I really hope they are the A. viejita. I'm not too keen on the macmasteri. But if I do end up with a pair of those I'll try and breed them anyway for the heck of it 8)
  5. If you get black beard algae, Flourish Excel deals to it a million times better than SAEs.
  6. Wow that looks awesome Even though Tiger Barbs aren't as agressive in a group, I still wouldn't put Discus/Angels in there. You never know. Here's some nice Dwarf Cichlids that will suit your tank : Apistogramma agassizii 'Double Red' Apistogramma 'Steel Blue' Laetacara curviceps Microgeophagus altispinosa Microgeophagus ramirezi Pelvicachromis taeniatus (these are nicer the P. pulcher) Don't get all of them though. This is just a guideline to go by when choosing fish for your tank. Maybe get four or five pairs of different species for your tank? I think it is good that you overdid the gravel layer. The plants will have more substrate and will love you for it
  7. When I was exploring the rockpools at the beach, I found that when I cracked a mussel open and gave it to the fish in the rock pool (various triplefins and other little fish) that they absolutely loved it Maybe you could try that for your fish livingart?
  8. Thanks Supasi and A-town That is very helpful information that you have both provided me with So I'm getting my tank ordered on Monday hopefully. After a talk with mum the dimentions have been changed to 75x55x50cm, because if I used my other dimentions I would have to also look for a stand, but I have a good table that I can use for the tank, but it is too small for a 90x60x65cm tank. I already know about the pH thing I have 10x Terminalia cattapa tea bags, plus I will go to Mitre 10 Mega to buy some Sphagnum Peat Moss for the substrate. I can collect rainwater too. I love blackwater tanks In autumn I can collect oak leaves from the park. Plus I still have a few from last year. How do you set up a good-sized blackworm culture Simon? (I don't want something too small that might run out quickly if I have lots of hungry mouths to feed )
  9. If I wasn't getting a pair of Apistogramma viejita at the moment then yes I probably would buy it :bounce:
  10. Cover the wood and rocks with various Anubias and Java Fern types, Xmas Moss, and Bolbitis huedelotii. That will look AWESOME :happy1: Then plant Cyperus helferi in the backround, and various green Crypts in the midground and foreground.
  11. Haha he's cool I wish I still had my Suabian Starling (a fancy pigeon breed). He had white wings with a black lace pattern on them :happy1: He just disappeared and never came back one day :tears: And I had had him for months and months. I hope he one day decides to show up (which is highly unlikely though, because they don't have a distance homing instinct).
  12. Found it :bounce: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 775331.htm
  13. I've never had one either, but have a talk to Warren. He knows all about that sort of stuff I'm having one on my next tank though :bounce:
  14. Um I'd just fiddle around with it until I'm happy With me it could take hours   There are so many different designs you can make out of that piece of wood and those rocks :bounce:
  15. Sump :bounce: Much better than two FX5's and you can fill it with all sorts of media and it will work out cheaper
  16. I think that one off trademe looks awesome Can you please post the link to it so I can have a look at the price? :bounce:
  17. Joe

    New leaf

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :happy1: !drool:
  18. I don't exactly like that layout idea, but those rocks are awesome I'm so jelous :happy1: !drool: Plus that piece of wood is very cool :happy1:
  19. You don't need to get the whole thing made out of Starphire, unless you want to go ADA, which you're not doing. Just the front panel should be Starphire. The rest can all be normal glass.
  20. Wow these are WAY cooler than any L046 specimen  :happy1: !drool: I MUST HAVE :happy1: (but I don't have a marine tank :tears: )
  21. Aqua One CF1200s are reasonably cheap. Just wait until Hollywoods have a special on them again, so you can get them even cheaper
