  1. Well get them again. I'm sure you'll be able to track some down. http://www.finches.co.nz/
  2. Good point. What about subspecies? We have a Common Bully subspecies/varient in a certain part of Marlborough called the Tarndale Bully. Could this also occur with fish in the North Island?
  3. I really don't care what DOC thinks, a lizard is a lizard and it is not the Rainbow Skinks' fault that they were introduced from Aussie. I could never kill one. I think you should keep them as pets because they are beautiful and fascinating to watch. Do they actually do any damage? I also think they have a major cuteness factor  This makes no sense whatsoever herperjosh. Have you been hanging out with extra-terrestrials?
  4. They have the most beautiful little songs  They are quiet at night - most perching birds usually are.
  5. But I'd have to get rid of my tropicals if I am to get natives, and I'm so attached to the tropicals! I love the little Apistos! They're so full of personality I'm only allowed two tanks set up at a time
  6. No you wouldn't find any of those in the wild, they all need 20 degrees+ year round. As far as I know all are availible in New Zealand. I've seen Cubans, Cherries, Red-cheeked Cordons, Firefinches and Aurora Finches in the flesh and they are all spectacular birds There is a man here in Blenheim who breeds those five mentioned above as well as Gouldians too.
  7. Yes it is a very solid and strong table. It's much better than a lot of fish tank stands on the market. I want it as big as possible, and you cannot change my mind
  8. Hi everyone, This is continued from the Neophema pulchella thread. I have gathered together some photos of my favourite exotic finches (apart from Gouldians because there is a photo on the Neophema thread). Enjoy!! Cuban Finch - Tiaris canora Male. Pair, female on right. Red-cheeked Cordon - Uraeginthus bengalus Male. Females is exactly the same except she doesn't have the red cheek spot. Cherry Finch - Aidemosyne modesta Red-billed Firefinch - Lagonosticta senegala Male. Female. Peter’s Twinspot – Hypargos niveoguttatus Male. Aurora Finch – Pytilia phoenicoptera Melba Finch – Pytilia melba Male. Females are grey with barring on the underparts, but have no colour. Purple Grenadier – Uraeginthus ianthinogaster Male. Female. Pin-tailed Parrot Finch – Erythrura prasina Male. Females are dull olive-green. Spice Finch – Lonchura punctulata Painted Finch – Emblema picta Male. Females do not have the red face. Bicheno (Ringed) Finch – Taeniopygia bichenovii
  9. Wow that is seriously awesome !drool:  :happy1: I think those Redfin Bullies are fantastic !drool: I think that other bully is a Common Bully. Cran's have an orange/red stripe on the dorsal fin I think. This tank is really making me regret getting tropicals
  10. Yes it has to be 75x55x52cm. It has to be that size to fit this particular table that I am using for the stand. If it was longer it would overhang. And any shorter or smaller I would lose water volume. So bascially 75x55x52cm is as big as I can go to fit it on this table. Nah I don't think it's the size. I just showed you Greg's price, which is fantastic
  11. I do want it ASAP so I can breed some fish Although that does sound like a good idea Caryl. I'll wait for Inside Oceans to get back to me so I can see what their prices are. Plus I'm also waiting for a few other glaziers to get back to me
  12. Wow that is amazing !drool: !drool: :happy1: :happy2:  I really like the 6th, 7th and 10th pics Is that an Apisto. 'Steel Blue"?
  13. Wow that is incredible! I love the choice of plants and fish. I don't really like the blue light though
  14. I've been thinking, should I maybe just get 8mm thick glass? (I don't want to go any lower than this though) I got a reply from Greg, and he said that the tank with 10mm glass would cost $160!!! :happy1: But shipping would cost more than the tank itself...
  15. Wow what an awesome aviary Yes they do have names for the different colours. There are three naturally occuring colours: Red-headed (the most common of the three Gouldian colours) Yellow-headed (their head isn't actually yellow, it is orange; red with yellow pigment - which gives it the orange colour) Black-headed (the colours of these are more of a chalky texture, and the breast is lilac rather than strong purple). The Red-headed birds are my favourites
  16. I've already said I will just get normal glass now. I do however need a panel thickness of 10mm because that gives me a safety factor of 5, which according to the tank builder is 'very safe' but anything lower is just 'safe'. Remember, I don't want bracing, and this is a breeding tank, so the tank has to be as safe as possible. Have a look for yourselves - http://fishkeepers.co.nz/index.php/tank_builder/ OK I'll talk to Greg. Can somebody please give me his email address so I can contact him?
  17. OK I'll just get normal glass then. How much should this tank cost at a reasonable price? Because $400 is a total rip off  I was hoping it would be at least $200. Or is it possible to get it lower than that?
