  1. I suspect that it is the plant loosing its 'air' leaves and regrowing in submerged form. A lot of plants are grown hydroponically and need time to adapt once they are submersed in a tank. You may well find that some fish nibble at the edge of the patches as the leaves die off, but they won't be causing the holes - just cleaning up
  2. Yep, buying quality pays for itself in the long run. Good move
  3. I thought wilson was going to start progating softies?
  4. Yep, they looked pretty good - one of the few ways of getting a strong blue colour - but yes, the temperament puts me off Damsels. Still, once I have a gianormous tank...
  5. The blue one in the tank with your purples, but the other one is sold too. I think you'll be fine with the Firefish. You could always add another red one to even out the numbers...
  6. Its a secret... we don't want to upset the Mandarin Police... 8)
  7. 2 Gorgonian frags, 2 purple Firefish, a Mandarin... ka'ching'ching!!
  8. You are indeed correct - I have procurred one
  9. They are the colour of sausage meat. It would be interesting to see the parent colony and see what they will become.
  10. So, it is time for me to prune my Xenias again - is anyone interested in some large UNATTACHED lumps? Will swap for snails, random pods, or a smile (girls only)... whatever...
  11. A couple of Gorgonian frags for the purists, a bubble, some capnella, xenia, and 2 purple and 2 red firefish, 3 Mandarins, 3 blue damsels of some sort... could be more...
  12. New toys at the toy store! - mainly fish apparently, but a few softies too... I'll give everyone a 5 minute head start...
  13. Yes, sometimes a little perspective puts things over here in context 8)

    one more?

If it is, then you really should start to reduce the population of your tank - you are at serious risk of disease doing it for you if you don't start yourself soon. Of course you can avoid that AND have a new fish if you buy a bigger tank and filter... go on, you know you want to....
  15. Powder coated should be tougher, but once you break the surface rust will do its evil work unseen beneath it.
  16. They chomp on Acros? That would not be good.
  17. Yes, strawberries and chocolate are a good combination!
  18. That is good news - there is nothing obviously wrong judging by the pic - put here back in the main tank and see if she can keep herself upright and swim. It may be that the water change did the trick.
  19. I've heard similar, but after suffering the reliability and performance problems of the little one I think I'll just build a bigger tank my self next time.
  20. Yea, but I suspect a lot of fish will eat coral if there is nothing else going. I'm growing to think that a lot of people focus on limiting nutrient input, including food, rather than focus on output. So long as you look after the nutrient export side of things, you should be able to feed it something that makes coral less appealing. That said, I'm no expert on marine fishes - maybe coral tastes like strawberries to them?
  21. Have you tested your water? That is the first place to start, or if you don't have test kits just do a big (50%+) water change anyway. If you can post up a picture we may be able to tell more, but from what you've described it sounds as if she is already too far gone for any treatment to be effective.
  22. Yea, it seems strange that their marine tanks have 'NOT FOR SALE' scrawled over them in felt pen, yet they have info and a price list stuck down the side. Hard to tell. I think the big triangular tank was (is?) a display tank of sorts, but the others it is hard to know - and as you've noted, none of the staff seem to know what the story is either. You might just have to buy some Acro and get an Acro crab
  23. Organism in Christchurch do the silver ones for $1500, black for $1750. There is also one in Critter Kingdom in Stanmore Road Christchurch for $1600 (black - will need new fluoro tubes by now), all with cabinets and kits
