  1. That's a great filter for that tank. Give it a good wash and then hook it up and let it run for at least a week before you remove the old one. It will take about that long for a culture of beneficial bacteria to grow in the media inside the new pump.
  2. The Red Sea Max ones are consistently wrong, but once you know by how much you can allow for it. I mix water to about 1.021 on its scale, knowing it will be 1.025. You can borrow my refractometer if you want and see what error yours has, then just mix accordingly.
  3. This sounds so familiar! I hope it works, but I now have a couple of Reeves Turtles to look after after my Wife decided it wasn't really her thing afterall...
  4. You still have to buy her shoes...
  5. It survived the night quite well - in fact it came hopping over from the room next door this morning going 'Peep Peep Peep', which I translated as 'Feed Me Now'.
  6. Ahhh... I remember the days... those long hot Canterbury summers, a magnifying glass, and those ants...
  7. I'll see if I can get it back into the cats mouth
  8. Time to make some little boots?
  9. I'm not sure at this point - it can't fly, so I feel morally obliged to look after it until at least then. I'm not entirely sure I want a pet sparrow :-?
  10. So I have a new pet. One of the cats gave it to me. It is a baby sparrow, very young and small, but uninjured and in good spirits it seems. I have named it Peep. I've managed to get it to drink water from a syringe and eat a couple of 'turtle treats' after which it falls asleep for a while in its fancy new wine-box and paper nest. What should I actually be feeding it? Any other care tips?
  11. Infection following physical injury of some kind? Do the usual - test the water, and if there is nothing there you can begin treatment once you have a firm diagnoses. Post up the pic and we mightbe able to pinpoint what it is.
  12. Its taken up residence in the notch behind the old brain skeleton when its not cruising around munching stuff
  13. Yep, although small stones also mean smaller spaces for crud to collect, so its not all bad.
  14. I have heavily planted tanks - I use a combination of good water flows and hoovering around the plants to keep it under control. Some gunk is OK, but get out as much as you can without ripping your plants up. A suckermouth catfish or two will also help.
  15. I manage a firm that tells people how much your designs will cost to build, so that they know how many boxes they will have to sell to pay for the place they make the boxes in.
  16. So, maybe we should install these in our RSM's: http://www.wickedlasers.com/lasers/wick ... s-74-0.htm
  17. I don't know - the latest one was just chill'n under a bubble coral.
  18. I've had limpits, Mysis shrimp, and last week another Cowrie
  19. He's a character all right
  20. I have to reach down to get the thick layer of goop off the sides without getting it back into the tank - I've checked the airhose is clear etc, but it just doesn't make it to the removable cup. If I used a toothbrush it would just end up back in the bubbles and then re-condense onto the side again. Its a pretty average design, I'm afraid. I keep spiking myself on the limpits too :-?
  21. A Himilayan Persian (colour point Persion) - he's got a fancy name and some papers somewhere... he is such a goofball
  22. My Wife accused me of dropping my guts when I cleaned it out last night!
