  1. Then toilet paper and similar should also not be allowed until after 8pm, in fact, ban all hygiene related ads from prime time TV. People that want educated children not totally oblivious about the basics of human anatomy?
  2. Happy Birthday. Hope you have a great day.
  3. My two cats are around the 9-10 cm mark. I'm thinking they will be looking for new homes soon.
  4. I agree. One of mine have devoured quite a few of his tankmates.. including fully grown swordtails . Big Fat Hogs !
  5. Yeah, that's the culprit. It's only one of the two .. the other one looks normal, but this guy is obscenely fat now. I did read up and thought my fish would be fine (apart from a couple of cardinals I couldn't catch) The others were way to big .. or so I thought.
  6. I had two of these given to me recently. They are both around the 9-10 cm mark. Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed quite a few fish disappearing in the tank, and I blamed the ctenopoma ( that's one huge mouth), but today as I walked past I noticed one of the cats is enormous. he/she looks like he is lying on a beachball. I did think the cardinals were probably not going to make it, but I've lost tetras, swords, and small corys as well. I had no idea these guys had mouths big enough to try. think I might have to put this fella on a diet. Anyone have any experience/ tips with these fish ?
  7. Anyone know if there are any of these lovelies in the country ?
  8. Be careful to read up on current legislation regarding imports and ownership requrements We bought a 1972 Mustang Sprint and between the time of purchase and time of VIN'ing the rules changed. We nearly ended up with a huge lump of scrap metal because of the import /ownership laws. Thankfully the original importer was a great guy and helped us along .. but it was looking pretty dodgy for awhile.
  9. I'll ask my son. He's goalkeeper for Mt Albert, but I think he may have just been asked to play for a summer league. If he's not already playing on Wed nights I know he'll be keen. He lives and breathes football.

    Frontosa

I bought 8 recently, they were just under 2cm and cost $30 each. I was happy with that price and they are growing nicely. I just posted on here and a breeder contacted me .. so you might get lucky if someone see's this post.
  11. Sounds to me like the white gunk you often get on new heater clips. If so it is ugly but harmless.
  12. This post saddens me greatly. I only met Brian a few times when his store was open on the Shore. He was friendly and helpful and I'm grateful for the advice I received from him. It's a tragedy when someone passes so young. My condolences to his Family and Friends.
  13. Add me to the waiting lists for fry please. My 5' is up and running just waiting for a few of these beauties.
  14. I bought 4 fighters from The Albany store on their fun day, 2 male and 2 female. 3 died pretty quickly from what I figured was columnaris, and the females have taken out almost my entire female tank. I've lost 16 so far ( and 3 gba )and I've just noticed 2 more with symptoms. Furan hasn't worked .. so I guess I'm just going to have to cull the remaining girls and bleach the tank too. Gutted.
  15. I'm really saddened to read this thread. Places like yours are an asset to a community, and hopefully the "powers that be" in Tauranga will see that in time and work with you. You have my thoughts and best wishes in this.
  16. I thought they would have enough space for a semi permanent home in there , but thought I'd double check. I've only got 6 males at the moment and they are all in the 150x300 sectioned areas. The tanks have substrate, are lightly planted, filtered and look quite cozy. The boys can sit back in the greenery or 'flex' to each other as they wish. They seem happy .. active and inquisitive, so I guess that's the main thing. Thanks for the advice.
  17. I have my male fighters in 300x300 tanks with a center divider, so two in each. I've been looking at the jar setups and reading from all sorts of betta sites and books. I'm wondering if that's enough room for them to live in. They seem happy enough and flare at each other through the divider, but I keep reading that they need more space .. yet see them jarred also. So much conflicting opinion out there .. thought I'd ask here as there's some pretty clued up betta people here.
  18. There's a background listed on TM at the moment that has one side like a rock wall . Not too bad looking.
  19. Oh no ..sorry to hear that Rhys. Hopefully the fry will fare well. Got the yellow girl yesterday, and picked up another crowntail boy at the same time. I love the guys at that store ... always get great deals from them.
  20. Is that the gorgeous boy I was drooling over ? Book me in for some offspring if so. Good luck Rhys. Hopefully another batch of beauties.
  21. Thanks. I thought as much, but they are sitting out there taunting me with their emptyness... I'm sure you know how that is Three foot tanks seem to be as cheap as dirt so I will keep a look out on TM for a couple more. Does anyone know of anywhere in Auckland that would have a decent numer of demasoni ? The stores I have been to lately seem to have only three or four, and I'm hoping to get around 15 . I could probably visit 4-5 stores to get enough, but I'm kinda lazy and hate driving around Auckland. There's a guy in Blockhouse Bay who has the lionheads .. so they will be easy enough to source, and I don't want so many of them. It's just the Dem's that seem to be tricky.
  22. I have two empty tanks sitting in my garage. They both measure 600x500x500 and the calculator suggests a 150L capacity. I'm really wanting to try my hand at keeping cichlids, but I'm not too sure if these tanks are big enough. Demasoni are my first choice for one and I was looking at lumpheads for the other. I've done a lot of googling on both these species, but.. the advice and opinions vary so much that I really am no better off knowledge wise now than before I looked. I am a complete beginner with cichlids, so any and all advice would be appreciated.

    Elephantnose ?

The one I saw was at The Bird Barn in Henderson. Thanks for the info on them.
  24. My LFS has a really freaky looking fish in called an elephantnose ( I think) It really grew on me the more I looked at it. Does anyone have any experience with these fish ? I have googled , but once again have come up with all sorts of conflicting views.
