Hi Kribkrazy Glad you found this site as there are many people with a alot of knowledge on most aspects of the hobby . There a quite a few people in the waikato area that have the bug . Most of them belong to the Waikato aquarium Soc which meets the first Sunday of every month at 7pm . Our meeting are held at link house which is at the river road end of Te aroha street in Hamilton . Anyway , if you are interested in coming along let us know you will be most welcome Dave

Hi Wazza You will be most welcome to come along to our meetings to see what it is like . I have been a member for a few years and have found it really benefical meeting others in the hobby and sharing ideas etc. Next club meeting we have someone coming in and talking about line breeding guppys so it will be very interesting. Pologara has given you the details so we hope to see you there

Bruce Awsome that you are having a fishshow . This is a great way to create intrest in our hobby . I know when the Waikato club had a mini show in cojunction with confence a couple of years ago the was alot of support from clubs and i am sure that youwill get the same . We have a club meeting tonight so i will see who is keen on coming down. Happy to help Dave

good idea warren . These reatailers should be reciving a copy of the Aquarium world anyway . So petional members can see for themslves one of the benefits of joining local clubs

Haven't given the idea of another molly hunt any thought. As for them selling the swamp that the mollys live in well thats news to me . I am sure that i can easily find out . I strongly belive that if there are fishkeepers in an area that has a local club nearby that that is the club they should be jioning . Yes it is good to get the aquarium world and the year book to get in tounch with other hobbyist but going along to club meetings and gaining the benefits of your local club is alot better . Without rambling but things like tank crawls , club trips , guest speaker and meeting others personallly sharing ideas and knowledge of there different experinces of fishkeeping has got to be good . If there isn't a local club in your area by all means join your nearest club or maybe even think about forming a local club . If this was the case there are plenty of people who will be willing to help you on the way . Just ask ???

Well happy new year rember me the person who cheer the last two FNZAS AGM. Firstly i fully support the offshore confence and i am really dissapointed after reading the previous few post how negative some people are being . Facts are that the idea of an offshore confence was decided on at napier with POSTIVE support from all of those who attended and we also had a large marojrity of support in Blemhim this year . Those who think that there has not been much work done towards this goal are not really up with the play or have fail to comucate with the Exec . Remeber comucation is a two way thing . I cannot imagine how much work and effort John has put into this and i for one am very grateful for this . I am sure that it will be a very sucessful confence and those who decide to go elsewhere that would be dissapointing . I have attened a few confences and i really enjoy catching up with all of my friends within the FNZAS and aslong as i can i will contine to do so . This brings us to that other grizzle cost well i for one have been saving for the offshore confece as we have been well aware of this for the last two years . I am planning on taking Linda and this will cost but it will be worth it . I flew from Hamilton to Blemhin last year and all up including confence cost about $700. The other matter of choice which i admit nexver happenned which a couple of people are also not happy about well this directly relates to the reaseach that John and Rowan have done . John in his wisdom which there is plenty of made the chioce of Fiji for all his reasons which i can't qute remeber right now but whatever they were i trust him and so should you . Finnally i am really looking forward to confece and lets make this another POSTIVE year for the FNZAS. Dave Dalziel FNZAS Imediate past president

Hi everyone Mine are out in the pond think i ended up with 20ish . I have a mix of 50/50 males and females and i do expect them to breed . They are doing okay haven't noticed any bodies and they must of really enjoyed the huge downpour we had here in the waikato on thrusday . We had locals kayaking down streets in hamilton east . Anyway in about a month i might try and cross breed some wild mollies with imported stock just to see what i could end up with BTW thanks for the photos they will always bring a smile to my face !!!

On the sunday afternnon before we all headed home a few of us went down to the Wharf at the entrance of the Tokkanu tailrace and try our hand at catching those pest to our natural waterways the Bullhead Catfish . Unfortanley we didn't catch any and if we did they would have been destroyed imediatlely althought some say they are good eating . Ummmmm theres a thought ??

Glad everyone enjoyed themsleves . As mentioned i got right in amongust it but it was worth it . Cat did the small golden molly survie that i caught for you . I hope so as i have never seen the gold sailfins there before . I will be interesting what it turns out like . There were plenty of mollys and some really impressive males that showed some really good colour as the sun hit them , We had a look at the thermal stream at the motel yep there are mollies there too but mainly small fry . Both tours were worth while and the upgrade of the vistors centre at the trout hatchery is well worth looking at . I hope that everyone had a safe trip home and the mollies traveled well . I have put mine in one of my ponds with other livebearers they seem happy. Nico i would love to see the photos kevin email some to me . By my own addmissions i must be nutty !!!! but it surely is fun. I will write an article for the AW . Aren't sure when i will do it agian but will think about it . Would be really interested in hearing about any other populations of wild tropical fish in Nz . I know where the guppies are , there use to be swordtails but you just never know .

There will be Carla , and the Rowe family also checking into the oasis motel on friday night . Joze i have sorted out the unit for the friday night for you . Just check yourself in when you get there . The weather could be worst i could snow like a previous molly hunt that i did a few years ago . Don't forget your togs as there is nothing more relaxing than a soak in the hot pools which there are at the motel . Everyone have a safe trip and i will see you alll at the Prawn park in Taupo at 10am on Saturday , See you there !!!!! Dave

Cat It would be great to catch up with you . I think i can still manage accomodation just read the intineary and send me your prefer option plus a second choice and i see what i can do . Prices etc are on the intineary which can be found in an earlier post .

Fellow molly hunters you won't belive our luck . I was on the phone to the owners of the Oasis motel yesterday and they mention these greenish fish with a tonch of orange that like hanging arond there thermal water supply to the hot pools at the motel . He said there are hundreds of them so we mighten even need to get in the swamp . The water levels are also up so it is fairly safe to asume the the molly population will also be thriving .Can't want for the molly hunt it is going to be awsome !!!!! Anyone one else coming just for one of the days ???
-
If you are intrested in the molly hunt i am sure i can arage it . I also have bred a few fish currently trying to breed a few killis and drawf cockatoo chilids.
-
Welcome fancy fins to hamilton . We are a pretty good bunch in the Waikato club .
-
Eriling That would be great as i really enjoy these fish and would hate to lose them . I am trying to breed some albino garderni , Biviatatums , and blue eyed killis at present . So far i have a few baby blue eyes only about a week old and hopefully in ten days or so i will have a few baby albino garderni . Haven't seen anything with the bivitatums yet . I also have some gold arstale and lineatus that i hope to breed Let me know about the girls and i will look at coming down to pick them up if you like . Possiblaly go fishing at Matata on the way Thanks Dave
-
I am sure i will find the mollies . On my last vist the swamp was quite low but i did a bit of investigating and found areas of good water depth . I believe that the mollies will be in these areas and with the amount of rain we have had laterly i am sure i will find them . Yes i have seen the devolpment sign but can't imagine them building in this particular area for obvarious reasons . Very final expreesions of intrest need to be to me by 10/10/03 sorry can't do any better than that . Mainly with booking accomodation etc .
-

Caryl i have about 22 people that have confirmed accodation , at least 10 others that have indicated they are interested but haven't confirmed as yet . I suspect that i will end up with 35 to 40 keen molly hunters for an enjoyable weekend . Joze please email me your accomation choices with numbers etc . Bring your fly rods you just never know . Last time i was down there i did a bit of spinninf forvtrout then went fishing for catfish off the tokaanu jetty
