No promblem as many peoples input is always better than just one . This is a really good way to improve the hobby as we can all learn off each other
-
Welecome Tracey , You should get in contact with the Upper Hutt or Kapi mana clubs down there they are a really good bunch of people. Details can be found in the club section of the FNZAS link on the home page . Happy fishkeeping

I wouldn't worry to much about feeding them it it is only for 3 _4 days . You could give them a bit extra bloodworm before you leave and possibly put a few daphina in the tank to keep them happ . Advantages of livefood it doesn't die untill it is eaten

welcome to the fishroom . There are a couple of other members which are northlanders . You will find that alot of the members are very knowledgeable about most aspects of the hobby and some can't spell but i sure people figure things out . Although i don't keep guppies at present they are still one of my favourite fish and now days there is a huge range of colours avaible. It is a bummer that there isn't an aquarium soc up there i know that a few years ago there was can't rember how many but i will look it up . In the meantime for you to recive all the benefits of the FNZAS you are welecome to oin any of the Aquarium clubs even though you mighten be able to make it to meetings at least you will be in touch with others in the hobby .

A few years ago when i was still going to school i used to go don to innes comman down by the Hamilon lake and collect perch , catfish , eels , carp which i kepted in a tub outside .That was untill it rained and the eell escaped into my parents vege garden then they proaly said Dave take those fish back . I then got a bit more creative and set up a aquarium with driftwood rocks etc and caught a couple of freshwater crayfish down the Waikato river which were alot of fun . My point is as a hobbyist i enjoy most fish an admittly look so much happier if you set your aquarium up as close to there natural environment as possible . I have seen natives in tanks and they look pretty good in aquariums i certianly would consider it if i had the tanks . Chillers well i don't know much about them but realy if you have a contnue flow of water how hot would a aquarium get in the summer i would be very suprise if it went over 22 degrees without heating thats in the waikato anyway Ponds should be at least 600mm deep to aviod them getting to warm . Just my thoughts . Charles it would be good to vist your whitebait farm sometime. I do enjoy fishing but i promise i will leave my net, bucket , eggs , gas cooker , pan and fresh bread at home

fiona , Give dave from hollywood fishfarm a call (09) 6205249 . They have a couple of dislay tanks set up in the shop all of which are very colorful and healthy . I am sure he wouldn't mind if you filmed them as this is also a chance to promote the hobby of fishkeeping . Good luck with your project

Yep black hair alge is a pain especially in a planted aquarium. If you purchase a couple of saimese flying foxs they will help contol the promblem as they love eating this particluar strian of alge . I use to have the same promblem but since i have introduced Co2 into my aquarium it simpy fell off the plants and all that was required was a quick vacum. I also know that fee from tropical blues intirau sells a product called flourish which is a plant ferterliser but also helps removing black alge . I will be visting her in the next week so i can find out more about the product then. Good luck with your battle against this nasty alsge but don't get dishearted as you will find a solution . Keep us updated

I totally agree with Andrew. This is why all fishkeepers in NZ should belong to a club , etc . Can the clubs details be updated on the Clubs section of the FNZAS page . This is really important especially if there are fellow hobbyist out there that are interested in jioning the local clubs around Nz which will be even more benefical.

before i went to work i spotted a few fry now i has just finsh nightshift 12 hours later i have hundreds of fry in my tank . In my experince with other sorts of goramis i have aways removed the femaleand left dad in the tank for a couple of days . I will try this with these fish and hope they don't eat the fry which BTW are the smallest fry of any fish i have seen .

clown loaches are genrally noctunal and can get up to all sorts of mischef at night . Yes i have heard of them nipping on plants aren't sure why it would target one particuly plant though When i had clown loaches they use to love shrimp pallets Have you ever been spiked by a clown loach ??? I have as i tried picking one up by hand . They have these spikes just behind there gills it potures out and when it does watch out it really hurts . Good luck with your aquarium maybe you could remove the plant that it is feeding on.

thanks rob. There is now a large bubble nest in the tank aren't sure if the female has placed any eggs in there yet but will keep you posted
-
The pair are very healthy as i try a feed all of my fish livefood about three times a week . This seems to keep them happy

I have just removed a pair of honey drawf goramis from my killifish tank with the intent to breed them . They have spawn serval times in the tank which they have come from . So far i have taken about 50% of there old water into the tank . Provded plently of floating plant on the surface plus a couple of plants on the bottom as i have heard thatthe females can get hassle a bit . I don't think spawning them is going to be the promblem but i have heard that raising the fry is quite hard as the fry are so small. I have bred crosby goramis before and raised them on mircoworm , liquadfry and brineshrimp does the same apply with drawf goramis ???? Any advice on breeding and raising these pretty little fish would be great

preferably before the end of august so i can confirm the accomodation . Everything else over the weekend not a promblem . If you wait untill after august you may miss out on the choice of what accomodation you want
-
would be intersted how rice goes as i haven't heard of that food source for whiteworms before
-
Sweet as , just email me your accomodation option and numbers
-
I have had my whiteworm culture going for about 3 years . It is a large pooly box with garden soil . I have given the odd bit away here and there but have never split it although i should one day ,. As to what i fed them iwell huttons ham and chicken luncheon works really well. My partner works for mainland prodcts so its cheap, I have also heard of cat biscuts and most common is damp white bread. I feed my fish whiteworm about twice a week no promblem . Some people say be careful not to feed to much but haven't had any promblems yet
-
Those of you who are interested in the molly hunt can you please let me know by the end of august as i hope to have the accomodation booked by then
-
i have a good supply of whiteworm if you are interested . You often go to auckland to the shops etc if you want to meet halfway

Hi Peter I have bred Discus and sexing them is very hard . What i sugest is when you have a school of discus and you do noticed that two seperate out , becoming agresive to others in the tank you can almost say you have a pair . Once you have identified this condtion them up , Give them there own tank with a piece of slate , a upright pipe and i have seen discus cones and see what happens . You will only know then who is what . I have offen got it wrong . Hope this helps abit and if you want any other advice on breeding Discus let me know . I am not an expert but i will try and help
