  1. Yep a common and a redspot
  2. I agree but goodluck and you may get more. They are a great looking pleco but you need a fairly big tank for the larger ones.
  3. I still reckon its a goldspot. Its a very nicely patterned one but their pattern does vary a fair bit and it changes as the fish grows. Its got a hump on the top of the head, in front of the dorsal (top) fin and a stocky build which makes it a member of the ‘P. gibbiceps group’ (sometimes called Glyptoperichthys) which includes red spots and gold spots. Gold spots (Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus, L001, L022) are a dark brown pleco covered with golden spots, which often merge on the body to form irregular lines. Red spots (Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, L083, L165) are pale brown/yellowish pleco covered with irregular large brown spots separated by a thin margin giving a honeycombed appearance. Common plecos (there are likely three species sold under that name in New Zealand although the common one is Pterygoplichthys pardalis, L021, L023) are much more slender and dont have the hump.
  4. My money would be on a very nicely patterned goldspot (Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus, L001, L022)
  5. Wow now thats a belly. Something to aspire too
  6. OK I'll bite. Of the top of my head the retention of larval characteristics into the adult form. From memory axolotls are an neotenic tiger salamander. Oh and great pics by the way.
  7. Yep beginni certainly is an odd Baryancistrus but then I guess so is the high-fin compared to the other larger stocky species. Both L200's are beautiful plecos but I've spent enough on other species so I certainly wont be getting any.
  8. Not sure but another smaller Baryancistrus, the Bluefin Panaque (B. begini) has been a few times, including by one of our forum members, and the other admittedly not closely related lookalike Hemiancistrus subviridis has, so it cant do any harm having a few in a tank together. If you're a fan of gold phantoms and want a couple you may as well have the same species.
  9. Yeah it'd be nice to see someone try and breed the highfins. They are an impressive looking pleco.
  10. Try the Practical fishkeeping link: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=4136
  11. Nice and about time to. Thats excellent news.
  12. Could you try and get a nice photo of your highfin (without the plastic bag ). It would be good to put it in the Baryancistrus article.
  13. What a stunning looking gecko Alan.
  14. That lorikeet looks remarkably like its owner Phoenix
  15. Heres our wee dog Oscar and His mate Tom and the old boy Dis
  16. great link. It certainly sounds like agreat thing to be doing in your holidays.
  17. Now were talking. I'd buy on of those
  18. Grow it on and breed from it. You may get young with even longer filaments.
  19. There is a school of thought out there that flash plecos (L204) are just a regional variant of the clown pleco. Not sure that I agree with that but they are similar and if they are very closely related, clowns may also have the genetic potential to grow long filaments on their tail fin.
