  1. I feed the L239 a mixed diet as per any omnivorous plec. Greens, shrimp, bloodworms. they love current and would recommend that there is wood in the tank
  2. I got some emperors a wee while ago and all died in a matter of weeks. All other fish were fine- maybe a bad crop.
  3. Get a UV filter and see what difference that makes. All you can see is fish and no water
  4. Hi guys I'm real happy he's gone to this new home. Hopefully he'll find his feet soon and start to show what he's capable of looking like. A.
  5. Pair of apistos or blue rams-?
  6. Followed by: mmm - Clown fish OR are not nemo. lol, at least is not, "CLOWN FISH ARE NOT EMO" tehe. George Bernard Shaw wrote "First make people laugh then they will think" I guess there are always exceptions.
  7. Of the many that were jumbling around in my head like lotto balls these two came the the chute first. Hyperballad- Bjork The "Ten Commandmants", or Spartans- that cool stuff they played om Sunday afternoon movies when they had them.
  8. Or to be precise a locational Variety of A. jacobfreibergi as all are not necessarily Lemon Jakes. Am I correct in saying that these guys were labelled as A. Jacobfreibergi only and someone here has added varietal and therefore determined exact location of this fish, through photos on the net, something that many here have already determined to be a risky thing especially when dealing with peacocks. The closest facsimile to this fish is the Undu reef variety for sure, but is this a 100% ID. Lovely fish- my females are more slvery brown with yellow tinge to ventral fins It would be a real breakthrough if we started getting such exactly pinpointed fish. I hope this is the case
  9. what a georgeous animal. and what a face that 2nsd shot reminds of watching the "three Caballeros" as a young nipper.
  10. Just saw your 'new tank' thread. Be mindfull of your tank dimensions when selecting what fish. the apistos are territorial of floorspace so your tank would suit only one pair i'd suggest. Perhaps think of mid-top level fish or make a stack of rocks or tall plants to give more cover. look forward to see the progress.
  11. I can't remember seeing any shell dwellers here, or at least in recent times in terms of Lamprologus sp. Every now and then some 'Alto's' are around but not so much the dwarf varirties. Juli's, Lelupi, brichardi, pulcher etc seem readily available but it would be awesome to get in some shell spawners. I agree about the apisto's, cockatoo's, agazizii's, etc are cool and would be a pretty nice alternative.
  12. Church bay is the stretch of Waiheke south of Matiatia and running down to Carusso rock. depending on tide start one end and drift a few hundred mtrs off shore. If it doesn't fire Matiatia hole , just nth of Matiatia, or out in the foul ground in thee middle between Moutuhihe and Waiheke. Friday -should be a millpond- Maria or the Davids. Tight lines mate!
  13. Church Bay is still firing if your on the drift, and had some good fish at the Noises. Looking forward to those Autumn Reds, and with this weather wont be long before they start moving out again. Roll on early june- 5 day trip to the Kings. Can't wait
  14. I got some cold water guppies as a young fella (about 7), took them home and put them in a bowl. I put them into brand new water the next day from the tap and cried like hell when they died................I'm still learning.

    High pH..

Have you got any shots of your plecs, see if we can ID them. some blue and green phantoms at dinner time

    High pH..

A blue phantom would definitely not be suitable as it would be too shy and retiring for the malawis and struggle for food unless you 'lights out' fed it, and their natural water parameters are alot softer. Bristlenose are ok unless your talking about sharing with mbunas which will pick on it in territory disputes. Synos would be my choice like cuckoo or Angelicus perhaps or pick up a big Featherfin-cheap and bulletproof.
  17. Is that the small shop in Ilam, I remember it being green, if so I agree it was probably the best I'd seen down there.
  18. Yeah I've had no worries flying with fish as carry-on. one time had to let the guy figure out for himself that since there were live fish in the bag the chances of me carrying toxic fluid to poison everyone on board was nil to very small. Cheers for the info- look forward to checking them out.
  19. I've managed to wangle a later flight Thursday so I've got 1/2 day to scope out some shops in Chch. Who are the main contenders to see do you think? I'm most interested in plecs and cichlids if that has any bearing on suggestions. Cheers!
  20. I'd be looking at any dwarf cichlid as a community or bio-type tank fish, mixing with larger cichlids or in a species tank is going to end in tears. Demasoni, and yellows together are 'a classic' combo. Peacocks won't get as big as the haps like dolphins etc. look at "Aulononcara" species. There are always plenty going on TM.
  21. They will be scitterish and nervous in small numbers which will lead them to be nippy toward others. They are happiest in larger schools as is their six-bar cousin. Veracious plant eaters as well.
  22. The same shot with a lot of red and magenta cast removed. "german red" peacock. These guys are line bred from the chipoka strain of Stuartgrandi Maleri. The sort of quality peacock we don't often get here.
  23. It's a pity ronnie or other successful breeders haven't added to this post to add thier experience. I think they add green water to the mix, might even turn the filter off completely. I wouldn't have thought your bio load at the moment would require too much in the way of water changes. Hope they keep growing for you. I couldn't seem to keep the adults alive long when I kept them let alone babies. Good luck.

    MosquitoFish

Whats the possibility of chucking some comets in your outside pond. I was under the impression that it's the transportation rather than the keeping that gets you into trouble.
