  1. I agree whenever ive had to euthanise its either been a quick bash to the head or a knife, however they have all been smaller fish and i don't know what id do if it was a large fish though..
  2. Flourish excel will do the trick, do a search on the forum for blackbeard algae and you'll find several threads on it
  3. Long stringy poos can be a sign of internal parasites... BUT usually you would see the other symptoms caryl mentioned, lack of interest in food, lethargy, hiding in the corner. Did any of your other fish exhibit symptoms like this prior to death?
  4. how are the discus going discusboy?
  5. pretty sure it was shipped in water from memory. i did get the coral shipment at 9.30AM and have them in the tank by around 10.30am so that probably helped as well. Hows the rebuild going?
  6. ooh i'm always keen on anything thats being chucked out, i'm not adverse to dumpster diving in someones bin  i got some xenia shipped to me from cookie extreme (prior to his tank crash ) and it shipped really well, and i had no problems.. ahh yes sun corals... yes once my tanks past its ugo diatom/cyano/aiptasia problem you will be mine!
  7. gouramis and fighters can often have trouble being house together, i think part of the problem is they are both anabantoids. The aggression can get worse if either the gourami or the fighter blows a bubble nest and both decide its there's.. i've had blue rams with both gouramis and siamese fighters and they have been fine so i imagine they'd be fine with the bolivians.
  8. wow didn't know that about it killing the coraline algae, eeek. i'd heard mixed reports on the joes juice, but maybe i'll give it a go, i hate these damn things
  9. You're on! except i'll distract and you thieve it heh heh heh, that way they'll be no wrong-doing associated with me, and i'll be able to run away with it while they tackle you. I'll bring you pictures of it in jail though
  10. I was quite taken with the flame angel you bought the other day and the anenome! However i went home to an afternoon of aiptasia injecting.... ahh how fun
  11. Lol i bet i know which one you mean, that nice big green bubble in the display tank? ahh yes i've asked about that before, i'm also looking for a nice bubble. That black sun coral you have is beautiful conch, what type of maintenance does it require? I love movement and colour in the tank so i like torch and hammers etc. BTW i meant to ask are you using the standard factory lighting in your RSM? What type of lighting does the RSM come with?
  12. No algae, everyone's healthy I was just curious as to what a 'safe range' was
  13. i was testing my marine aquarium today and decided to test the phosphates in the fresh water aquarium as well. Phosphates registered at 1ppm. I feed a lot of frozen foods (bloodworms, mozzie larvae) as a couple of my discus won't eat anything else. i have no idea whether this reading is high or low for a freshwater tank can anyone tell me? Also are there any potential hazzards of having a high phosphate level?
  14. hmm thought that might be the case, oh well, back to injecting the aiptasia with boiling water and maybe i'll try a kalk solution think i'll be visiting organism on the weekend to have a look..
  15. where did you buy him from conch? i haven't seen much around in the way of angels lately, i was thinking about getting one to try and help with the aiptasia but wondered how it would go with the mandarin in terms of competition for food. Does anyone know if flame angels eat aiptasia or any other species?
  16. yeah i'd doubt it but still pretty interesting!
  17. Hey guys, i don't know much about or keep killifish but i thought this may interest you guys http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/a ... ge_id=1770
  18. i have used prazi in the form of prazipro with sterbais and BNs with no problems. From memory it was 25ml/300L per dose.
  19. that sure is confusing you two having the same avatar and similar names
  20. daily water changes would be fine, the bacteria that convert the ammonia to nitrite and then to nitrate attach themselves to your filter media and ornaments/plants so you aren't harming your bacteria populations by doing daily water changes
  21. a pic of him being fed or just a regular pic of him? theres a pic of him here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/next-v ... c&start=15 He has the most personality of my fish (and hes my favourite)
  22. unless you can train him to eat pellets etc.. My lawnmower is always watching me waiting for when i will open the lid and bring forth the bounty of pellets. He sits on the powerhead near the feeding spot, as soon as i open the lid he sticks his eyes and mouth out of the water in anticipation.. so cute. Not sure about hair algae, haven't had it... yet, he seems to eat the red/brown slime that occurs on the glass and rocks
  23. wow looking beautiful and the size of that clam!
  24. I read about the mouse pad thing, i thought it only helped the vibration problem not the hum?
