  1. maybe i've said too much! i heard you got a nice sun coral . I was eyeing up the other one john had but figured i should get on top of the aiptasia before making any purchases so reluctantly i left it...
  2. i think i just missed you i was in around noon, so are you going to post a pic of it ?
  3. pretty! i hear you also picked somethign else up for your RSM on the weekend....
  4. yeah, i thought it went pretty well, i figure i'll take it rock by rock and keep at it. Today one of my clowns starting hosting my frogspawn so that made me happy too
  5. Had a go using a syringe and boiling water to nuke the aiptasia and i think it worked pretty well, time will tell if they regrow... interestingly i found that my cleaner shrimp went round after the nuking eating all the leftover boiled pieces of aiptasia. Is this common? Before After
  6. Hey Guys. I have tried to sound proof my cabinet as much as possible, it houses the sump with skimmer and return pump, the pump rom the skimmer is very loud, and ive tried to cushion it but there is still a humming type noise from it. Just wondering if anyone has used dynamat or any other products like acoustic sounding proof matting? Dynamat seems very expensive. Cheers
  7. Bought mine via ebay, don't think its supplied here
  8. I think itwould be cheaper to buy prazi-pro, rather than pure prazi only for a tank that size. From memory it was 25ml for each dose for my 300L tank.
  9. cool i have some kalk here, will try the mix is there a certain ratio of lemon juice : kalkwasser? Now just to find somewhere that sells hypodermic needles that won't look at me like i'm some sort of junkie . Imagine explaining to them why you wanted the needle... Me : so yeah i have some anemomes in my tank and i want to inject them and kill them... Assistant: sure you do...
  10. ok well i'm going to try the inject with boiling water/lemon juice method on the weekend and see how that goes. The pics i saw on wetwebmedia of the lemon juice method looked pretty convincing, failing that i may try joes juice, but hey lemon juice is pretty cheap so i'll try that first. Will keep you all posted as to how it goes
  11. looks to be filamentous, i will try siphoning it off when i do a water change on the weekend and maybe cut back on the feedings... are different shrimp species compatible in the same tank? i currently have 2 cleaner shrimp so i'm wondering if peppermints would be ok with them
  12. its pretty hard in chch to get work in the field unless perhaps you do a pHD, i did my BSc at Canty zoology/physiology really enjoyed it but hard to find work in the field
  13. hey guys, wondered if you could help me identify what this is appears to be some king of black fungus looking growth on my live rock and coral. Its isolated to only this piece of liverock, any ideas on what it is? what i should do about it? and how i can avoid it in the future? tank parameters are pH 8, alkalinity 8, ammonia, nitrite - 0, nitrate 10ppm, calcium 380, phosphate not sure but between 0 - 0.05 and am using phosphate remover. And yes that is a lot of aiptasia! i have a plague of it and i'm thiking of trying to inject it with boiling water or lemon juice, anyone else tried these methods
  14. Hey dixon here was a pic of my pair (not the best quality) http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/blue-r ... 21728.html The top photo the male is on the left and the female on the right. You can see the female has a pinker abdomen and has metallic blue flecks in the black dot. The male in the picture below doesn' t have any blue flecks in his black dot and the black dot is more elongated. hope that helps
  15. Yip he's definitely been busy, anyone see his photo on stuff I could post it but not sure if i should
  16. yeah lots of ppl having problems with rams, i had my male around 6 months, how long after you got yours did they start dying ryanjury?
  17. no , in fact i no longer have my male he died around a week ago, went pale stopped eating developed stringy faeces and passed away. I quarantined him but unfortunately he never recovered. i bought some internal meds for worms (as prazi doesn't work on internal flagellates i read) but it was too late for him. Im now looking for a nice looking male to go with my female and then i'll give it another go at breeding. I've had my female in quarantine as well as shes had a large lump on her face for 2 weeks. Doesnt seem to affect her but shes isolated for precautionary measures
  18. I think he's really busy with work at the mo, when he dropped off my fish he was pretty busy.
  19. Hey gaza i've only just started out so don't have much advice to offer but i have been using standard tap water for my salt mixes. I had the same dilemma as to whether RODI was needed. Apart from the usual brown algae outbreak from starting a new setup i haven't noticed any problems using standard tap water, others might say differently though
  20. where did you get your live mysis shrimp from? i'd like to add some to my marine tank. I also wondered about adding some to my discus tank as an alternative food source, any ideas whether this would be ok?
  21. lol, are you speaking from personal experience wilson...
  22. yeah had a look last night with a torch and it teeming with creepy crawlies so at least now i know hte mandarin will have something to eat ;0
