Only got java fern (narrow leaf I think), java fern windelov, some sort of sword (small) and one other? Getting a few osiris sword and hairgrass. As I want this to have 5-6 discus in it I don't want to plant too heavily as it will make it harder to keep the tank really clean and I want them to be seen! I only put aquarium mix in about 1/4 -1/3 of the tank under the propagating sand for this reason also. Its in a semi circle and its where I intend to plant the majority of the plants I'm putting in. I also don't really understand about the lighting and how I work out what I need (technologically challenged at the best of times I am :roll: ). Its a wonder I can post this :oops: :oops:

if you haven't looked already take a look at the freshwater tanks pictured on this forum under members tanks. I would like to see more pics as well as I work out my new tank.

Well, I went out to Origin Aquatics (have some serious spending to do). Arrived at 10.36am - notice on door said 'not open until 11.30am today - sorry for the inconvenience'!!!! A round trip of 60km+, an hour and a bit of my day, not to mention my petrol and all for nothing. I prefer the smaller fish only shops to the bigger ones. Fortunatley there is one a little closer, not far over the bridge that will be gaining my custom in future as it did today!

The fish I breed cover all my costs but thats about it. keeps me happy though.

They aren't ordering any fish in for a few weeks though and it does tend to get a bit bland.. this isn't because you have got hold of all the interesting ones is it :lol:

In their natural habitat each male lives alone, only sees a female if one happens to pass by (thats why the females always have eggs). Its not going to hurt them.

Yep agree with Ryan about not having to put your arm into the bottom. My new one is 60cm deep and I have to stand on a chair with my armpit on the edge of the glass to get to the substrate. You're about my height so unless you've got longer arms :roll: I'm thinking one of those planter things in the pet shops, the ones with grips, might be a good idea

Looking at discus, rams, a couple of bristlenose, have some kribs but will have to see how they go and some other ground dwellers. Kribs currently in with the rams at the moment but female is very stroppy when she has eggs . Will be a slow process stocking it with both plants and fish. :-?

My husband says to go look at the low pressure tubing in the plumbing section and you can get the joiners and valves and pipes and some solvent cement, put them altogether to make sure they fit and then glue them.

Bunnings up here has just supplied everything I needed to set up the plumbing in my new tank.

A lot of it is thanks to you and also HFF and the guy in the plumbing section at Bunnings Mt Roskill. Everyone has been great.

Finally have my tank filled, filters up and running, a few plants in but more to come yet. Also need to get better/more driftwood. 450 litre tank 80+ litre sump with tunze overflow running 1000lph + cf1200 external cannister filter. 2 300 watt heaters Your opinions, ideas etc welcome.

we have done a DIY but the hose has a slight kink in it and is restricting the flow slightly, however we are winning on the whole project.

who stocks these or in particular parts for these. the one I have with my tank has a split in the hose part that goes over the tank - the one with the air valve in it so doesn't work.
