  1. Perhaps someone on here should have a go at selling something similar to this. Might increase the popularity of the killi.
  2. I've got some slate if you want some. I have to clear out some of my stuff. I'm in Epsom - Newmarket end.
  3. Are there only 2 of them in the tank and did the new one act up the moment they were put together in the tank. Whats the response of the existing one, how does it act. I have seen large numbers of short fin males being sold as females of late and a lot of young fish being sold as females when I can tell by looking at them that they are immature males.
  4. separate them - are you sure she's a female and not a short finned male?
  5. I got one yesterday as well. So easy to assemble.
  6. Our dog - now 8 yrs old - has always been at home while we have been at work, school etc but because we live where my husband works there are occasional daytime visits and now my sons at uni, he's around too - even though he doesn't pay her much attention. But, she loves the school holidays as we're all around all day and finds it hard when we return and she's shut in her yard from 8 -4.
  7. why do you think the fabric didn't work?
  8. a ct or crowntail female looks like this - look at the ends of the fins and tail a vt or veiltail has smooth edges to the fins and tail like yours and anything crossed will be a mix of both but not as good as a full ct
  9. I would say blue with a red wash though her tail and lower fin. The stripes will disappear when she is less stressed and she will go darker if there is a male in the tank or where she can see one. Age, well what size is she. I would say about 4 months old as this is usually about the age they are on sold to the shops and she should be around the 2-3cm mark. Can't see her tail properly but going on her lower fin I would say veiltail.
  10. Lights - I can't help you with. I run T8's. If you don't have them on the plants with high light requirements won't grow. My hair algae (long stringy stuff) disappeared when I changed from a sump to a cannister - because of the way my sump was running I think it was more water movement within the tank that caused it to go. At that stage the tank was about 5 months old. It has not returned. I have discovered that green algae on my glass happens when the filter is becoming clogged. Cleaning the fine wool causes it to disappear. Black Beard Algae I keep under control with flourish excel and have used SAE which did a good job when they were young but then became too fat and lazy. Dirty brown stuff on the plants could I suppose be this becoming established. I don't use CO2. My plants - val, queen marble sword, osiris (I think) are fine with the higher temp and my val tolerates flourish excel. My java fern is hopeless and so is the windelov. Don't know why.
  11. My tank isn't lidded either - the lights cover it. My temp is set at 29 degrees but has been hitting 32 occasionally over the last couple of weeks. The fish are fine - I do run an airline as well which seems to keep the bn happy as they come up for air when its too hot without it. Wheres the algae - in the water, on the glass, or on the plants.
  12. I've got a couple of neons in there, leftovers
  13. I thought that the other day when I - wearing motorbike gear and holding a helmet - was hovering by the escalator at 277 Newmarket and a guy came up and gave me a bag of plants in exchange for money!
  14. its taken ages - all the steps are in the freshwater section under my 'new tank' posts. Still messing around with it. Have to get more cardinals or something.
  15. Whoops - just re read the whole post.
  16. Waters a bit cloudy, will be cleaning the filter wool tomorrow.
  17. what sized tank do you have them in and what sort of filter are you running.
  18. yes it will (it has a reverse flow) but can't you put it in a garden. its fairly slow to drain into a sink as it has to run uphill, would be better to go to garden or down a wastewater drain. I use one of those vacuum attachments to start the flow to empty outside rather than suck as its really hard work to get the water running out of the tank.
  19. Sure did Ryan. He's got some absolutely stunning discus.
  20. As long as a garden hose will reach your tank it will work. Mine goes from the kitchen, through the dining room, and through to the other side of the lounge with no problems. Its quite good because I can get to the tank to check the hose hasn't flicked out before the water gets to the end.
