  1. oh yes I would also like to thank craig and steve for showing me their tanks. (steve- I have set up the metal halide and it is awesome the live rock looks great too...)
  2. have you seen our rockpool at the museum? its the one with the glass lid you walk over and you can look down into it... at the moment we have two crays and maybe 15 or so crabs. I probarbly wouldn't go for crays or crabs in a tank your size as they are both mean buggers- they allways attack each other at feeding times. um we have ours set up with a trickle filter (wool, bio, wool) and we of course have a chiller so the tank sits at about 19 degrees. we did have a skimmer in there too when the tank was being established, howver all the tanks at the museum are skimmerless now...
  3. 1. zucchini cucumber and lettuce 2. Tadpoles 3. zucchini and cucumber in slivers, lettuce placed in boiling water and then frozen in small packets 4. zucchini and cucumber will initially float but will sink in a few hours or a day at most. frozen lettuce should sink immediatley.

    skimmer

now lets just imagine $300. minus $150 for metal halide minus maybe $80 worth of live rock- this leaves NOT MUCH. but then... let us imagine an extra $250 added to the remaining $70- this results in a sum of $320. Now let us imagine we can get skimmers wholesale price... now what would we go for in this price bracket ($200-$320). input appreciated...
  7. i use the elite ones on my tadpole tanks. they are not as good as ye-ol' ugf but are way easier to just chuck in. If you have messy animals the filter wool will need wrinsing once a week or so, other than that... nothing. repace the wool once a month or so.
  8. yes but it is nice to see your fish! in a natural waterway they do not have glass fistanks

    Not Happy

wow thats less than half the advertised size! I bought a tank which said it was in good condition-when I got it home i discovered it had a long crack the length on the bottom (it came complete with gravel so I couldnt see when I bought it.
  10. is this all you are selling evil. i will prob buy a bit of stuff off you if it going cheap... flick me a pm, I need some chemicals and other stuff and might just grab the powerhead off you if you don't want this stuff anymore... lemme know. sorry to hear about the dead corals etc...
  11. do you really need to up the volume? is there a heavy fish-load? what filtration do you currently have on the tank?
  12. why not just hook the cannister up to the main tank and forget about a sump if you want to do that? why do you want a holding tank. in my eyes you would probarbly do better this way as it wouldn't cost anywhere near as much with the same filtration...
  13. I use carbon in my axolotl tank, and am going to use it in my marine setup.
  14. oh sorry- just read you are doing planted. perhaps not trickle filter then- maybe lots of baffles and filter stuff actually in the sump!?!
  15. unless you had a non-return valve on the sump to tank pipe  now were talking! yep wet and dry. go for a triccle filter through filter mat, then bio-filtration, then filter mat again(with small trickle holes in the bottom of each tray) then this can sit above the main part of your sump(wich will now act more as a holding device than a filter (thats my reccomendations anywhay- they will probarbly be refuted by other, wiser people on this site

    tank update

hey all just a few quick questions- I know it is 3 am but it is new years day so forgive me   I have set up the tank to check for leaks with freshwater. I have also removed the two white t8's and i am left with one marine blue. I now have enough space to chop a hole in the lid of the tank and add a 250w leica mh if i end up getting one of crackers. I still need a skimmer but once I have put saltwater in the tank I can start filling it with base rock, sand and live rock because I already have a heater sorted. just a quick question- if I have rock sitting in my tank for 2 months does it become live rock or do I need some live and some base rock to begin with... I am gonna get a seio powerhead I think, or perhaps a nanostream, I already have a 402 in the tank. Well thanks in advance for answering my queries... I was also wondering about fish stocking- I would like an angel or some other quite large fish as a 'feature fish" Are there any angels or similar which don't cost a fortune and which are quite commonly available which wouldn't feel claustrophobic in my tank? my tank is 920l by 600h by 400 deep. Other fish I am interested in are six-line wrasses, some blue chromis(maybe 3) and 2 perc clowns with an anenome for them. Would all these fish be compatible? am I overstocked? I could get rid of the wrasse if need be... thanks for your help guys It is much appreciated
  21. hey wok (and everyone else) I will definatley be coming to jan meeting( is it in greenbay?) whats the date?
  22. hey guys, just an update- my puffer is doing fime these days- he has gone though about 13 white clouds in the last two weeks plus heaps of snails- I put some golden apple snails in but he didn't seem interested so I had to take them out so they didn't die and pollute the water (Coz they are cold water snails) Any I have lots of ramshorns and common snails in there. just tested water- pH was 7.6, Ammonia, nitrate, nitrite all zero, GH has gone up to 6 now so its getting harder- I have been adding a bit of JBL aqua dur so thats all sweet... all the conditions are looking stable now...
