  5. None of the tanks at the museum run skimmers. If you do big water changes you will be sweet
  6. You posted in Cichlids so i'm assuming in a FW tank. Give it a scrub with water.

    hello there

welcome. nice sounding tanks- you should turn the 1200 600 600 into a reef tank when you get your new tank- that would be way cool!
  8. feeder shrimps (glass shrimps) you get from rockpools- I don't have any in my tank but I know quite a few guys who do. They are good scavangers and I think Angels will also pick them off. copepods need to be introduced into your tank through live rock etc. Have a look for them at night time with a torch- the zip around the bottom of the tank especially around any algae if you have any. If you need a starter colony or something give me a pM and i'll put some sponge in my sump to get a colony going you can have. Pods are a choice feed for Mandarins and small wrasses so it pays to have a good colony going before you buy one (Mandarins especially- as they can be fussy about food)
  9. i have a green stardust in a frog tank where it is in a boggy bit but not submerged and yeah it is doing really well
  10. companies always overrate their skimmers! the one I am running on my 50gallon tank is reccommended on tanks from 250- 300 gallons!
  11. cooler would be to have a tank above you--- if you didn't have gravel that would be awesome!!!
  12. t5 would be best IMO for your tank... and no you cannot run t5 in a t8 hood you would need to replace endcaps and ballasts
  13. Off topic a bit but are you a keeper hans? I'm a keeper also... back on topic- 25cm above the tank is fine. the circular thing is the holder, the black box is the ballast. you wouldn't need metal halide for your planted unless you are planning on planting plants which need really high light demands or you are planting really really densely, the expensive bit about halides is the electricity bill
  14. look in the compost heap thats where i get mine from

  17. bad bad bad!!!! Exterminate Exterminate Exterminate!!!
  18. looking good... where is your return gonna go? you also forgot heater- You'll need 300-400watts. my tank is pretty much the same size as yours... what corals are you looking at keeping? and what fish
  19. dollar a kg- can't go wrong
  20. coolio don't depend on feeder fish though its good for them to get variety- you should see mine eating Danios... they might be fast but they definatley aren't smatr(danio's that is!) they swim above my puffer pretending he is a rock and then wham... bye bye danio

    ramshorns

    they are ok in coldwater
  22. looks like it might be good- 5 native species of fish plus freshwater crays! looks a fairly healthy stream too... I fould baby eels in the stream running from the duckpond at the Auckland Domain, that was cool... You should check out Vaughn river on the shore, I remember from EnviroSci reseach that was a very heathy stream
