I have H umbrosum also and the leaves are a different shape. I have my umbrosum floating also.
I know the stuff Neon is asking about grows like a weed in the streams and swampy areas around here in Wanganui

If so its Cyanobacteria, aka Blue Green Algae.
Can be treated with Antibiotics. I suggest you search Cyanobacteria in this forum as there are heaps of articles with peoples experiences.

If its just on the rock, remove the rock and do a bleach dip on it.
Or else squirt some Flourish Excel directly onto it and it should start to turn pinky grey and die.

What plants do you have, how established is the tank. What sort of lighting and filtration.
