    Koura

Last night i went to several local streams and lakes, armed with a spotlight and a long butterfly net. I found heaps of bullies, and in one lake there were hundreds of redfin perch.(i suspect the redfin perch may prey on young crustecians ,sp?, hence not any koura there) Im stumped about where else in my area to find them. Im really keen to add another species to the list of animals that i have at my personel zoo, lol, and seeing your pics Ian has made me a man on a misssion of sorts, lol

    Koura

Hi Stella What streams in our area do you know definately have them? As youd prob know, Wanganui area doesnt really have stoney streams, just mud bottomed ones and they are hard to find anything in. I know there are some at Virginia Lake, but thats not really a place i wanna be fishing round in.(its a very popular family destination, and duck poop by the truck load) would be keen to go for a small drive if needed but not sure of any publicly acessable site i could go, And I understand that you are a guru in regard to water life in the Manawatu.lol
  5. Can i come work for you when this happens? :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  6. HA Love the look from the one in the yellow. War scars on his arm and this is not impressing him,
  7. I catc heaps of flies like this.... I went to the Warehouse and bought a butterfly net from the fishing section. Me and a mate go for a drive to a local fishing spot that requires driving across a farm track for a few kilometres. Drive at about jogging speed.(max speed on this road without bottoming the car out) with the net out the window, skimming it just above the grass. within minutes i have literally a hundred or so flies/moths etc.I find i catch more when the cows are present. if the car is kept at a constand speed, the force of the air moving into net prevents them flying out again. once i have sufficient amount i quick twist net and use a bread tag to stop them escaping. The bonus with the flies i catch this way is that they not your standard house fly and are quite docile and easy to catch if the get out in the car. Works for me, so maybe worth trying.

  18. Hell no!!!!!!!!!! Far from it Simpson is part of the electrolux homeproducts family. Simpson, westinghouse and electrolux brands.Australian made. Although the ovens were made in Christchurch until about 4 years ago. Far more reliable, I would say that seems as i sell them, lol
  19. I manage a locally owned and operated appliance store. Unfortunatley David R is right on the nail. Price determines what most people buy. And if they want a particular product but dont like the price then most people then try wrangle the price lower and lower. this is making it harder for the locally owned inderpendants as the big australian chains just sell thing at a loss sometimes just to move boxes. And what money is made in the sales goes into the pockets of the big wigs in Oz. We just had one locally owned shop shut its doors this month. Sadly its going to be a common occurance. Especially with all the junk we will start to see dumped into the market because of a "lovely" lady signing a deal. Thats my little rant. Back to my new glowlights for me........

    string Peat

Most pet shops sell peat in small bags(brooklands brand i think) it sort of looks like fine tea. Put some of this in a small net bag or old pantihose and hang in tank. thats what i do for my tetras and it works great. Although i get strange looks when i go buy pantihose at supermarket, lol
  21. Some one else is trying to sell it now. They have already ignored one warning from a buyer, yet have not removed it.
  22. My question is what were you searching Ira to come up with that?? Cat spanking is not something that comes to my mind while searching you tube, lol
  23. IMHO goldies will handle temps into the low 20s, but i would not recommend this over a long period of time as you will prob find their life expectancy is lower.
