Just a query would 6 discus be okay in a 225 litre tank by themselves ? a planted tank with a piece of driftwood in it ....

I have come across some info about UV sterilizers on thet net and they advise thi may help keep water tip top for discus and help to reduce any bacteria outbreaks and gill flukes etc? is anyone able to recommend these? are they worth it? do they work?

I got the trichozole from a vet it didn't seem to have any effect on the fish at all (bad that is) i have ben doing a 25% water change every 24 hours as well .....

my discus came dowm with gill flukes and worms .... I have been treating with trichozole for two days now and was toldto use some furan 2 and the gills don't look all pink and healthy they are a bit white looking ... I am trying to get hold of prazi to treat the flukes with no luck at all so far, is there anyone in hamilton who can recommend a good vet who may be willing to help me out? Another question when the discus return to their main tank how do I know there is no fluke or bacteria living in that tank? I have been told to strip it and start again but if there is an easier way that would be much much better ! does PP work? if so in what doses would it affect the other little fishies?

thanks for your help there, its a pressurised sera CO2 system and I think I have been using too much CO2 in the tank as the little guys are hanging out at the top and the diffuser has C02 bbbles that are quite large escaping out the bottom, should i be quite well stocked with the plants before using the system so it isn't wasted? should I tinker with the system so the bubbles are quite small and stay in the tube longer? I am going to definelty turn the CO2 down and when it turns off at night I will put the airline on a timer to come on nd distribute additional oxygen...

Oh and one more thing, how do I know if my plants are producing enough oxygen to sustain fish life? Its all very worrying!

Hi I installed a Co2 system in my tank and am wondering if it is done right. Looking at the outlet it produces large bubbles, that immediately rise to the top. Am I dreaming or does that mean I am wasting Co2 into the atmosphere? :-?

I have an aqua 620 that used to have cichlids in it and was running since last october, i have now replaced the gravel and filled the tank with new water as I am wanting to move some of my community fish into it ... how long should I wait before adding in the fish am I best to let the system run for a couple of weeks to get the bacteria built up as its new rocks and water?

Hi, is anyone able to help me out with a CO2 system, I bought one of the Sera models and am wondering if I should have the airline (oxygen) running at the same time or am I negating the purpose of the CO2- any advice on the proper setup gratefully appreciated

i have just been reading a post about carbon with our carbon filter that sits on top its been in there for about 3 months and I have bought some replacements am i best using this? I heard it can go bad and release anything its actually picked up back into your tank? does anyone have experience with the aqua one filtration?

Hi Afrikan The others seemed to of perked up a bit however i did lose a rummynose that completly lost colour and started swimming upside down!

she is out a little bit more tonight but still hanging out at the back of the tank no other signs apart from loss of colour she is almost white now with the orange just around the edges

Hi Luke its a total bummer alrigh she appears to sometime rub up against the driftwood and then take off in a hurry, the goldfish bowl told me to tey whitespot cure?

I don't know if this info helps but the discus have been in there for about 6 months and the tank setup for about 7

Thanks for your help , I have two smaller discus, 3 scissor tails, 3 cardinal tetras, 2 platties, 2 dwarf gourami, 3 danios, 1 baby brittlenose 2 rosy barbs and 2 glowlight tetras and 2 penguin tetras i am wondering if my ovrgrown plants are causing stress?? I ma quite upset about it! especially since it lost all colour so quickly

i am using the standard aqua one 980 setup i looked at getting another filter but was tld the standard filtration was okay? i do weekly water changes of 20%

The temp is sitting around 29 I believe, i was toldto turn it up a bit for the discus

I noticed oneof my discus had lost quite a bit of colour and was hanging out at te back of t tank for a copule of days - its red doll (think it looks quite close to a red melon) anyhow i have cheked ph, ammonia, and nitrates and they are all at zero but today she was sitting on the bottom kind of gasping, i rang the goldfish bowl yesterday and was told to put some formulin in the tank? any ideas/suggstions what may be wrong??? some of my other fish look a little dopey at the moment :

I have lost tree platys in the last week :< I noticed on one that it has red markings in the belly and on the tail when we fished it out of the tank it was missing an eye and its gills on one side of its belly, had it been attacked or is this another issue? on the high fin it lost its colourings and the top fin wasen't high anymore......I am being told that our water chemistry of 28 degrees and a lower ph for the discus is doing this however other people tell me they can run fine with discus..all other water parametres nitrite, notrate and ammonia all fine...any suggestions?

I have a community tank with discus platys cardinal tetras, scissor tails and guppies I have lost three platys recently and they seem to have red marks like they have been injured I am wondering if the kribensis has done this? is it compatible in this tank or better in a cichlid tank? Could it be that the platys don't like the lower ph and higher temp in the tank with the discus? HELP !!!

thanks for that i haven't fed for two days and have done nighlty water changes for the past 4 days doing a biggher 50% change last night it is still quite milky looking the gravel is still picking up a bit of junk and i noticed it is particularly soft in one area is this normal?

for the last week a cloudy appearace has taken hold in the tank i tried to use magic clear but it reacted with whatever was in the tank and made it milkier i have been doing 20% water changes for the last two days to try and dilute it out....all the fish seem fine howeve i lost a harlequin overnight it had a missing tail and two clear bubbles on its body i have been checking for whitespot as well it dosent seem to be there at the moment but two platys are behaving quite oddly...any suggestions? is it an algae bloom?

i have noticed that two of my platties have a buldge on their underneath, I know they are notorious eaters but it has been there for three days now i am wondering if they are carrying? how do i tell the different sexes i thought they were all males but perhaps I am mistaken?
