  1. I have a community tank with platys, harlequins, tetras and two small discus the problem being that one discus is not eating at all and the platys are overdosing I have tries discus tucker, bloodworms and are developing a white worm culture - i have a feeding ring as well which she dosen't go for when the others come out for feeding she hides in the corner....is there anything else i can do? is thee any particular food that the discus will go for and the livebearers wont??? its been 8 days now and her colouring etc is still good and she is fairly active but I don't think she will last much longer at this rate
  2. Hi, I have an aqua one 980 225 litre tank withsome discus in it who I know are very particular about their water quality - is it worth getting an external filter to help this processor is the standard filter supplied adequate? I have been trying to get the setails on how powerful the existing filter is but seem to get conflicting info - one site said 1000l p/h? any advice greatly appreciated... Thanks
  3. Should I be using more than just the filtration system that comes standard with the Aqua One models? How many cycles do they go through a day and is it enough?
  4. Is this too big of a requirment for a 225l tank 1 x baby brittlenose catfish 4 x baby harlequins 4 x guppy 3 x scissortails 2 small discus 10 x platys 2 x rosy babrbs 4 x cardinal tetra 3 x danios i am getting advise thatanother two discus would be fine however i fel at the limit now...any advice?
  5. I can probably hold off on the move until I go, I have no idea how to do a private message!
  6. I am going to the Nov meeting to join up
  7. I am addicted despite all the problems we have had starting out... I am getting an Aqua One 980 next week and looking to move the old tank into another room --- are there any experts in the Hamilton area who may be willing to oversee that this all goes smoothly?
  8. thanks for that, I wouldn't have any trouble with the guppies and siamese fighter at all? or the guppies and tetras?
  9. At present I have danios, platties, harlequins and scissor tails and guppies, I am thinking about replacing my siamese fighter and maybe a small schoolf of eiter neones or glowlight tetras is this going to be an ok combination?
  10. the plattie which died tonight did not appear to have any spotting on it...could there be another reason?
  11. I appear to have a continuing whitespot problem, I have increased the temp to 30 degrees done three water changes had a dose of formulin and about 5 treatments of white spot cure...I have lost most of the fish things looked pretty stalbe for the last 3 days however another plattie died tonight..... is there something else i can do to rid the tank of this problem?
  12. thanks I will do, I hear that is great stuff!
  13. its an aqua one 620 with a 90litre capacity, it has the standard filtration system in place I have noticed that one ofthem seems quite agressive towards the plattie as well is this normal?
  14. i have just noticed this morning on one of my guppies that its tail looks like tiny wee bits ae missing, there isn't anything in the tank really to be agressive towards it there are 3 harlequins, 3 zebra danios and 2 platties left......the tail almost looks a little bit brown and patchy is this because the parastie has got at it.... he still looks perfectly happy and is eating??
  15. thanks Sharn, I have just lost my algae eater tonight as well it looked a little bit slimy on its belly side, the problems began after introducing 4 guppies last week I think some of the water from the bag got released into the tank with the fish and caused havoc, now I have done the formulin should I do a 30% water change tomorrow and then do a whitespot cure again, the others look perfectly happy but then again both algae eaters were out swimming with each other today and they seemed quite alright as well....
  16. I am not sure if this information is posted elsewhere, if it is i am humbly sorry but can someone please tell me when the next meeting is on? I would love to join and get some advice on getting my tank stablised.. thank you
  17. It appears I had a bad dose of whitespot in my tank, I lost 9 neons, 1 harlequin, 1 plattie, 1 siamese fighter. I have treated two times wih white spot cure done a 30% water change and treated once with formulin which should hopefully fix the problem. I am curious about how these parasites get into the water is thee something I should be treating with all the time as a preventative for this or should I boil the water and leave to stand for 24 hours before water changing? I am quite worried if this can randomly attack and it seems we had a severe case of it.... all other water chemsitry if fne however ...
  18. thanks for that I am in shock they all fell over so quickly as well...
  19. the neons didn't appear to have any white spots on them but perhaps that may be due to their size and not being able to see it that readily?
  20. Thanks I have traded my angels back as they got too large too quickly and seem to be quite aggressive they didn't seem to be attacking the neons but yes that might of been an issue, I didn't do a water change prior to treating the whitespot I will do one tonight I just didn't want to stress any of the others out anymore with the water change....
  21. The problem continues, I lost 9 neons last night and they were all very healthy the previous night eating ald flurrying about, my ammonia is at zero there is no pesence of either nitrites or nitrates, I did notice that one of the plattieswhich died yesterday had a few small white spots I out a treatment into the tank last night and are hoping for the best??? any advice here??
  22. thanks for that, the funny thing is that I have been checking on the fighter constantly and all of a sudden it looked quite ratty then it appeared really sad..and this morning it died.... would the nipping possibly by the angels caused it too much stress ? i am going to rehouse the angels.....
  23. I noticed last night that my male fighter was not eating and was swiming at the bottom of the tank it wasen't in good shape and it had died overnight :< I also noticed that only yesterday its tail had been severley nipped it was quite ragged looking I do have 4 male guppies in there which have not been bothered by or appear to of been causing bother to the fighter however I am suspicious of my angel fish as they seemed to of grown quite quickly and seem aggressive, is it perhaps tie to look to finding the angels new homes?? one of my platties died as well ..... but had been looking happy nd healthy prioro to all this. The nitrite/nitrate and ammonia PH levels all appear to be fine..
  24. I am looking at buying a hachling red eared turtle I have been advised they can stay in a 2ft tank for approx 18 months providing they are not overfed at which point they are to move to a bigger tank .... does this sound correct I am quite concerned that this is not big enough?? additionally is it best to feed them in a separate container as their food is quite smelly? any other tips or past experiences that can be shared wouldbe most appreciated...thanks
