  2. Previously i had a massive piece of driftwood in the tank but I am over it ! looking at replacing it with three smaller pieces and really planting up the tank - I have a gold nugget and albino bristlenose will three smaller pieces still be okay for their requirements?
  3. I am going to aquascape my tank and will be getting plants from different places, is there some sort of treatment to do before they go into the tank to make sure I don't transfer cyanobacteria or snails or other nasties into the tank?
  4. is the white poo kind of segmented and does it hang from the body?
  5. does it have one gill clamped down or seem to have heavy breathing?
  6. how do I get hold of era.......?

    Cycling

Harlequins seem to be really hardy
  11. well I had to re setup after a disaster, so I cleaned out everything sterilized the driftwood and gravel in boiling water refilled the tank and waited then added a bristlenose, waited 10 days added a small school of 5 harlequins and then a gold nugget.... all in all its been five weeks now..... after three weeks this fluro green stuff started growing on the top of my driftwood and now its taken over I see it has also attached itself to some plants at the back......I did alot of reading and found that phosphate and nitirite are the main causes....each time I have had water tests done everything reads at zero but phosphates are at 5 - previously I have the same setup with no problems...the tank has been in the same position with the same standard lighting and no issues so I think this might be the cause?? I don't want to use antibiotics because it will interrupt the cycling process which I am still trying to complete properly.... if I remove what I can and get the phosphates under control hopefully this will help control it??
  12. thats twice per week not fortnightly
  13. its a 215litre doing about a third
  14. I am doing two weekly water changes and not feeding in flake food because it is high in phosphate from what I hear - I am using JBL discus bits...
  15. Is there a product i can buy/use for reducing phosphates on an ongoing basis in my tank?
  16. if not eating and hanging out in the back of the tank not socialising or being that active then yes maybe internal parasites or gill flukes
  17. discus tucker is really messy and if it isn't consumed/cleaned up right away then it can pollute your tank the commercial stuff ou buy often has alot of other stuff in it that isn't beneficial if you haven't actually seen any poo don't worry about it too much if you can see long string white poo it may be sign that there are internal parasites if they only scratch up about objects from time to time and you don't see a pattern or it happening often maybe don't worry too much if you do see it alot it can indicate gill flukes and the best treatment for that is prazi.... if the colour of your discus is okay and you can't see stress bars, your water parameters are all okay then may try and get some daphnia for live feed o otherwise just stick with what you are doing if the discus has been picked on a bit its most likely shy
  18. any other signs of stress, or flashing against rocks, plants etc? does he have any white stringy poo attached to him?
  19. if I suction it all off as much as I can leaving the drift wood in the tank and control my phosphates will that still work?
  20. i am fairly certain it is water flow is all okay nitrates/nitrites are low to zero though which I understand may contribute as well?
  21. I have a large piece of driftwood which is covered in cyanobacteria I think I have found the cause its phosphate my reading was at 5 - if i remove the log thoroughly scrub it and keep the phosphate under control will this work to remove my cyanobacteria problem??
