  1. And it also looks like no re-inforcements are there apart from a (surely soon rusting) metal reinforcing bracket at the top. Would you consider this safe for the living room or is it more of an over-sized terrarium for a water dragon? Seller claims it was full of water and fish at some stage for a film. Fish Lists

No - is there one? I don't have a store, just fishtanks LOL  Maybe I should open one?
  4. The book says that the boys need to be 18months before they get interested in inviting ladies into their caves. Girls are interested and able much earlier. I have some quite old ones that I got as a breeding pair and they are much smaller than some of their offspring which grew up with abundant food in a big tank. These are over 20cm now while their father is maybe 15cm.

    Algae

Yes I am very sure Ian. I have had thousands of baby bristlenoses from them. They bought themselves several tanks and filters already Come to think of it - must be my good organic homegrown menu I lay on for them

    Algae

Not sure what you mean with small?? Mine were over 20cm long last time I saw them... :-?
  8. I still have some left. Look here: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/jordan ... 20865.html However freight to Dunedin would be by air with NZ couriers and costs something like $40 for 5kg!
  9. My first guppy tank had (you guessed it) guppies in it, a pair of bristlenoses with a nice cave and 5 peppered cories. I sat in front of it for hours watching the cories trying to school with the guppies. Very cute!! We have had about 3000 BN's out of that tank, hundreds of cories and I cannot count the guppies any more ...
  10. Awww - really? Please can I have one of the leftover, badly printed, wrongly stapled, ones? ??
  11. Could it be that there is too much copper either in your fertiliser or your water supply (lukewarm water from the copper hotwater cylinder)? We tried to kill snails one day with copper sulphate and while most plants are unaffected, the vallisneria started yellowing and dying. Looked very similar to yours actually. We rescued it by immediate water changes when we noticed (about 2 days after we put the stuff in), and although most leaves died it recovered and grew new leaves (with snails still alive!!). It was, however, an established tank with good root systems. Not sure what would have happened if they would have been newly planted.
  12. That one down there \|/ ----------------> NZKA 287
  13. or even paradise fish ...
  14. Wonder if the epsom salt treatment works for guppies too? Have a look here: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/help-s ... 20901.html
  15. Come to think of it. Could it have been cold damage? Don't they come from the South Island? Wonder if they were out there in a cold night and got damaged?
  16. Most of the plants look good when they arrive because they are grown hydroponically. Now a lot of serious traders on TM state categorically "grown professionally" or "grown submersed" or "grown in my tank" etc. Wonder why? I have bought these emersely grown plants from petshops in the past und some will survive but most won't. I didn't know any better at the time. The problem for the commercial grower is algae growth and snails in the growing tanks. That is why most of these "water plants" are grown emers, hydroponically. No snails, no snail eggs and no algae. Beautiful clean plants, grown extremely fast in a plastic house - you can cut and sell them weekly. In the tank however a lot of them sadly turn to mush. And that also happens in the pet shops by the way! I have seen very bald stems there myself. There is nothing much you can do except pinch out what is still alive, remove the sludge of the rotten ones and hope for the best!
  17. Coldwater fry could be goldfish?
  18. Looks like other people have problems with constipated goldfish?? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Community/Mess ... d=17100758

    Leopard Fish

So out of 4 females came 50 babies in 6 months? That is 2 babies per female per month. Not fast - as I said  And wilson - I would not recommend these with WCMM. Every single baby will be hunted down and eaten by the monsters! They are fairly slow when small and I think that is why they have so few surviving babies.

And they are actually quite slow to reproduce. Much less babies than guppies, much less frequently and will happily eat them as well
  21. Do not bury it in the gravel as it will rot rather than take. I would try to grow it on some biggish flat stones and then put these into the tank. That way you can lift them out when cleaning the gravel. If you try and cover the gravel with the moss how do you siphon off the poos?
  22. Do we get these in NZ? http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/p ... cle_id=596
