  1. Try this link: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=298
  2. Hi peoples, if you want to immigrate you need a certain amount of "points" and speak english as well as any university professor (they have just upped the rules for the english test). Most NZlanders would actually fail that test! Check out the NZ Immigration website http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ for more info. If you can - come here first for a couple of months and look if you like it here. We certainly do - but I do know of some people who were quite disappointed and left again. Not easy once you've sold everything at home! Read all about migration to NZ here: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migration/index.html Good luck!
  3. all the best Ira, good luck!
  4. Is there any fish in NZ that will eat big amounts of algae in my outdoor tubs without eating the other nice plants in there? Temperature is going to go down to 4 or 5 degrees in winter I suspect. Currently 10 degrees C at night and 20 during daytime. Thanks for any good ideas - no goldfish if I can help it!

    Baby food

Thanks for all the good ideas. The dogmatix recipe sounds great, just got to get all the ingredients I guess and do a "cooking" session one day soon. Could probably freeze it and add the greens later? The green water didn't produce many fish in the end caryl, that's why I was looking for something a bit more substantial for them to eat than just "greens". And the egg yolk trick sounds quite interesting too dennis, do you chop it up? The banana peel is producing something, just got to get the microscope out and have a look what exactly is growing in that fluid. (Sorry to have put some members off their shop-bought bananas). Any more good ideas welcomed. Have a good weekend!
  6. Thanks to Rob I have now some nice Microworms climbing up the walls of their punnets and very happy guppy kids. Now I am on the lookout for some Infusoria for my Minnow babies, as they cannot eat the worms (too big) for the first two weeks. The first 2 lots have survived on green water (and each other) but were not in the slightest interested in the fry food from the LFS. I know you can do hay or banana peel brews which might have lots of different infusaria and also have some "bad" infusoria as well (the sort that hunt and can hurt small fish). In Europe you can buy Protogen granules, which will grow nice small infusoria right then when you need them, instead of having these jars going all the time.... Does anyone know if these are available in NZ as well or do we have to import them? Thanks!
  7. And then when all the others have some ....could I please get some too in a couple of years???? Thanks!

    Oh. Migod

Thanks for the kind words too *blush*. How about some nice cichlids then? They are so much fun as they actually do show some behaviour rather than just swim from left to right and back (in between eating their babies like my good minnows). Must get organised, look under the house and then put up a suitably large tank and get a wishlist to Fee....
  9. Hi Steve, Are these called Julidochromis marlieri in Latin? Just trying to learn the english names! Thanks.
  10. There is a monster tank for sale at Trademe tomorrow: 6feet by 2feet by 2feet http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auct ... id=2964640 The glass thickness makes one wonder though! Anybody keen to take the risk?
