  1. Why dont they work???
  2. I have got a few big rocks in the tank, they are from the Dunedin area. They aren't white at all. The stones on the bottom are from an aquarium store (Critter Kingdom) and contains few white stones. There is Dalton's aquatic mix under the gravel. The thing which concerns me most is those ceramic tubes in the filter, I have one of my aqua one 2200 trays full of them (5 litres???). I originally had only what it came with but added (a while ago(8 months)) more aqua one ceramic things and for a while there I had very milky water and test results were all over the place.
  3. Thanks so much I didnt even think of that, I will take them back on saturday

    Ph

I was talking to the guy in redwood aquatics about my massive algae problem (all string/hair algae) and also the fact that vallisneria is the only plant I have been able to grow means that my ph is to high, and it is, around 7.8 Has anyone had problems like this? What could be making a high ph?

    Heater

I have 2 Elite heaters, the seals around the head of the heater appear to be kind of popping out, the seal has a ring around the bottom but this seems to have slipped down to reveal rubber grippy bits which presumably are suppose to keep it from sliding. Has anyone experienced this? Do I need to look at replacement heaters? (They are both 300w and about a year old)
  6. It sounds like you have the same type as I have, I have tried lots of things but to no avail.
  7. I've always used 6500k (thats what most people seem to say) 5' are $6.50 from ideal electrical. I have roof fixtures with cords on them from the wholesaler, they are much cheaper.
  8. I was in Animates on Saturday and overheard a sales assistant advising a customer that the electric filter the customer had could in no way shape or form aerate the tank at all, and that she needed to buy an airpump to inject the air into the water????? Surely thats not right... or is it????
  9. I built a stand for a 5.5' tank and had it professionally spray painted, it really doesn't end up costing heaps more than it does after you have brought paint etc
  10. Thanks, I might try the blackout, its about the only thing I havent tried, also I would prefer not to resort to all those chemicals etc
  11. I am a little unsure of the quality of the scales on my neon tetra's, they appear to have a sort of purply tingh when the fish oves to the side. Also on one there is an odd locking bump on its underside. What should I do?, would tonic salt be any use? Also, my kissing gourami is trying to kiss one of the golden gouami's, What shold I do? (450l tank) Thanks A.D.
  12. Ive definetly got sae's (according to that web page) No doubt at all. The Problem is that most of it is attached to the plants, not the glass.
  13. Ive got neons, harlequin rasboras, red phantom tetras etc Everything else is bigger
  14. So, increased circulation should do it, Ive got an aqua one 2200 external (2200lph) but I really doubt that it does close to that, should I get just a pump or something? Ive got heaps of vallisneria in the tank and have 6 flying foxes but I thought a flying fox was an sae? Can I just get one sae????
  15. Its that wiskery sort of stuff and it is very strong when you pull it out.
  16. Could I have a large fish in my tank, its 450l and heavily planted with quite a few small fish in it. Something like an oscar or something??
  17. Mitre 10 sell reasonably priced sheets 1.2m x 2.4m
  18. Ive always had elite brand and never had a problem the only problem I have with them is that the cords are only just long enough to go into the cupboard below them.
  19. Good, one of my old tanks had arcrylic lids and I had to keep turning it over so it didnt sag right into the water.
  20. I do the same thing with a gas heater unit, the hose is attached to the laundry tub so I can user the mixer for fine adjustment.
  21. Ive got an aqua one cf2200 its kind of hard to get apart for cleaning, but you only need patience to fix that, otherwise its been running fine for over 6 months. Ps. I dont know about the smaller cf1200 etc
  22. using spray bar, I'll do the bucket thing today
  23. I know, this is the first external I have ever had and its not nearly as great as i had hoped, If you mess up the bottom when its dirty the rubbish sits suspended for ages, it just doesnt seem to do much.
