  1. It is still in NZ. It is eaten as part of the vietnamese cuisine. i have seen them being sold in ice cream containers (no holes, with sand and water) emersed here in the markets in wellington. I have some but the frost got to it. I can look out for some next sunady market for you if you still want them.
  2. Hey Aaron, the best one to use for clipping the gonopodium to the proper length is a nailclipper. I have clipped my male swallowtail guppies and they are successfull breeders afterwards, they didnt even show any signs of pain and immediately did their job straight after the clip.
  3. Hi yellow, I suggest you carry on with your plan. The first generation of babies for both crosses will be half-blacks even for the snakeskin. The second generation offsprings will be very interesting.
  4. Hi Yellow, What you have is a very nice Pingu female. Female guppies do not carry the moscow head gene, only the males do but your Pingu female will give birth to Semi-metalheads where they actually look like metalhead moscows but without colour on top of the head, only on the sides.
  5. If it is a true lyretail as opposed to double swordtail, all the offspring will have an indication of the lyretail shape and colour. it will range from roundtail with double sword markings to double sword up to true lyretail as the parent. Here is my venezuelan which has sort of a lyretail: and here are his offspring with an X-linked snakeskin female and with Flamingo female some of these guys grew to be beautiful lyretails but they all died from that nasty Columnaris before I was able to take their pictures.
  6. No it will not turn back to blue, the orange that you see will intensify into a red and cover up the whole fin, the dorsal (top) fin might stay blue. if you want blues, do not use the ones with red in their fins for breeding.
  7. Were your guppy frys blonde? is that why you call them orange? Actually the Blue Neon and the Red Tuxedo guppy strain has similar genetics except that the red or orange tuxedo has complete red-fin genes, when a guppy only has one half of the red-fin gene (either the gene for the tail or dorsal fin), it turns blue. It is not unusual for Blue Neons to have Red-tuxedo offspring and vice versa. So your guppys might still be pure strain.

    PinGu Strain

The Pingu male and the HalfBlack Black female that I gave you were not related at all. Apparently, the Pingu should have two Pingu allelles (homozygous for pingu) for the Pingu to appear. So a cross of the daughters with the Pingu Male will do the trick. I will be interested as I havent done that cross yet.

Ask Aaron-Beta for females, he might have some.
  10. Hi L, I just had that same thing happenned to my test tank just two months ago but with this tank, more 50 percent of the fish were like that and several deaths occurred. The test I was doing is feeding them with freeze dried tubifex worms which I suspect harbors a lot of disease spores. I have separated them into four tanks to determine what the disease was and what treatment works for it. I tried salt, tonic, Furan, and anti-prasite None of the treatments work and the only one thet worked is green-water, all of the fish in the green water survived and recovered. But I have now euthanised all the fish because i have no idea what the disease wasa nd dont want to contaminate the other tanks. I wont be feeding with freeze dried tubifex again.

    PinGu Strain

Hi Caryl, Yes, Pingu is a cartoon penguin but the Pingu strain name came before the cartoon was named. The Pingu guppy got its name from the abstraction of PINk GUppy.

    PinGu Strain

Here is what Luke Roebuck of the US says about his pingu's he is selling for US$40 a pair: This strain dates back to the late 1970's era when they were published in People magazine and sold for a record $200.00 a pair. Unfortunately, only a few were the top quality. Developed by David Liebman over a ten year period in the 70's, this guppy is a striking metallic half-pink color with a black to bronze belly. Alot of work was done to create this strain and many of the top guppy breeders best strains had been incorporated into the making of the Pingu. As a result the potential for making new strains from outcrossing the Pingus is infinite. This strain was basically lost in the USA for several years but thanks to our guppy friends at New England Fancy Guppy Association, some original stock was reobtained from an English breeder and the strain is now reestablished here in the USA. According to my international guppy friends, it is very hard to obtain, but now we have it in NZ.

  21. My male Snakeskin Breeder and my Platinum Albino
  22. Hi alanco, The second picture has a very grand name for a strain (not strand) : Flaming Dragon Batten Tail - I thought this strain has disappeared from NZ, it is of Japanese origin. it is basically a dark cobra (snakeskin) mossaic with crowntail. It was being sold on trademe about two years ago for $60 a pair. The first picture is just a mixed strain blonde.
  23. Neon does not mean full platinum, I have put the platinum in the Novelty heading because platinum is not a fixed characteristic and can exist in any strain. So you can have Platinum Blue Neon Tuxedo, a Platinum Yellows. Platinum Albino Snow and so on, platinum can only be expressed when tuxedo (or black) genes co-exist. If the platinum gene is on the X chromosome, you can remove the platinum by using a female without the platinum genes. But if it exist in the Y chromosome, you have no chance of removing it unless you remove the tuxedo instead. Also the tuxedo can exist in both Y and X chromosomes. BTW your albinos are platinums.
