  1. Very near you on SH5 before Reporoa
  2. Hi, I consulted with the livebearers r us and yes they will hybridise, they already have existing hybrids of these. Cheers, CesarZ
  3. They are from Golden Springs last christmas. Not many of the wild guppies look like these or maybe there were many but they can shut off the black bar when they want to hide so I only found three. forgot to get any females, wasn't thinking right back then.
  4. Hi Keri Anne, Yes I will work with caserole to get the albino one you want the blonde ones actually look close enough to #21 on the swampriveraquatics site. My camera is not good and the colours in real life are a lot better than that. Hi Dixon1990, These wild guppies are only 2cm long and the black bar on the centre of the body intensifies and connects to the dot near the peduncle when excited. Hi caserole, So you got some blondies? Will try to post a picture of my one here.
  5. Compare them to the NZ wild guppies I selected: the only thing missing is the tail colour!
  6. Here is a pic , he is more of a guppy than an endler, more to come.
  7. Yes KA, So far I have seen two phenotypes 1. Wild type blonde hybrid, same as number 22 on http://swampriveraquatics.com/_wsn/page2.html 2. Black bar lyretail hybrid, similar to number 10 but lyretail http://swampriveraquatics.com/ According to the endlers r us classification, they belong to the K class which means endlers that have been bred with other livebearers (in this case to guppies)
  8. Feed the parents more. Most egg eaters are under-fed.
  9. Yep, Venezuelan guppies are Endlers.
  10. Hi Folks, Now that there are confirmed real Endler's livebearers in New Zealand, I toured the fish shops in Auckland and there are still some available for sale. I also found some of the same type of endlers in the "cold water guppy" tanks usually used as feeder fish! I have not confirmed the source of these venezuelan guppies (and the feeder fish) but I suspect the endlers have been in NZ for a long time and somebody (the source) has been breeding them. In the past I have looked at some of the guppys from the thermal springs near Rotorua and some of those fish have really good colours almost the same as the venezuelan (endlers) guppies. Your thoughts....
  11. Hi Anna and Chris, did you manage to get some of those beauties? Came up to Auckland this weekend and there were only four of the gray ones left. Plenty of the blonde ones though. Jansens Three Kings has the females on their female guppy tank, just select the ones without any colour.
  12. They are Fantinalis antipyretica according to the translation it is a kind of fluffy java moss type.
  13. I bought some of these venezuelan guppies from HFF and they bred like mad, no deformity or diseases observed from my batch. Also tested adding them to some of my other guppies (as KA suggested) and my other gupps are ok. (it's been a month and a half since)
  14. I have kept my guppies in the pond all throughout late spring till early autumn in Wellington, The temps dip down to 18C but average at 20C. Not all guppy varieties can survive these temps, as a rule the smaller the tail the hardier it gets.
  15. Hi Kevin, The closest strain would be a Red Flamingo. Basically an orange guppy with platinum genes. Check it out on Google. I've got some 6 months ago and used them for breeding a new line of yellow platinums. They also call this an orange bronze tuxedo, japan blue-reds different sources different names. Cheers, Cesar Z
  16. Update: I now have moscow albino platinum albino snakeskin albino blonde endlers - got them from Auckland shops last week blue diamond (grey) blonde snakeskins blonde platinums
  17. Yep it is Aponogeton distachyus, and is a noxious weed according to MAF, it was upgraded to noxious since yr 2000, before then it was just a notifiable weed (under observation).
  18. Hi Paul, Cotton mouth disease is actually a bacterial disease called columnaris see the following for info about the cause and treatment http://guppyinfo.com/index.php?option=c ... mitstart=1 it says potassium permanganate is the best solution but only when the disease is starting. Cesar
  19. Hi guys, Probably there are traces of copper in the water of your tank, it is deadly to vals. Some people use copper to get rid of snails in plants. Snailrid is a copper sulfate solution. If at one stage the plants get soaked in Snailrid, all your vals will die from residual copper. Cesar
  20. Will try to get pics and yes KA you can have some of the first female drops. I talked to the supplier who I managed to find but he said he got rid of all his guppies and that was the last lot in HFF. Some other people must have these same strain by now. Also what he said impressed me "he keeps the guppys outside in a big tank in summer without any heater"
  21. The giant female is pregnant hopefully with the giant males but there were only tiny males in the tank with it when I bought it. My male guppies are afraid of it except for a tiny one-inch half black male.
  22. Hi All, I've just recently purchased a 4.5 inch long guppy female with beautifully coloured tail. Does anyone know how big guppies can get? Cheers, cesarz
  23. There were 10 in Animates Wellington this week.
