  1. Bet she was impressed   Not wanting to tell you how to suck eggs, but if you need to do it again (suck method ) every time you run out of suck, still a finger over the end of the hose before you come up for air - it holds the vacuum you are creating and stops it dropping back. Good to hear you've got it up and running

Good score Ben (was taking the piss about nicking it BTW  ) The old adage comes to mind - "its not what you know, its who you know"

Ah Hah So you nicked them!!!!! Mr J will not be pleased  Didn't tell me anything about them on Monday when I saw you in the shop. BTW, the chromis and fox coral all made it up here and are happy in the tank. :bounce: :bounce: Cheers Skippy
  8. Nice work pm me if you want details of where we went. Our third time there so we like it - will be going back in the future Have a good trip Skippy DiverJohn, thanks for the pm, will look into it when I am at home rather than doing it at work
  9. Thanks Suphew, bit late for this time though, I've just finished loading them all onto photobucket http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/skippy_photos/Fiji%20Trip/
  10. Yeah Puttputt there is - thats why I said that they will be going up over the next few days  Obviously need to resize them a bit as they are way too big and a mod has told me off I guess if they are a bit smaller they will load into photobucket a bit quicker too  Watch this space
  11. Was having a little problem attaching my pics so used the edit for the first time  Will now try to add my photobucket link http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/skippy_photos/Fiji%20Trip/
  12. Thought I might put a couple of my favourite pics up from our trip to Fiji. Be interested in any comments that folks may have pic's still too big. most are over 300KB. please resize or link to your site instead. Am sticking a whole bunch more on my photobucket account over the next few days
  13. Hi Venustus Thanks for the advice re the overheating, but I am ahead of you there. Have left a bit of a feeding strip between the glass panels which helps heat to dissipate (helps with feeding too ) BTW - 88F is about 31C - which is way too hot if you are a fish Cheers Skippy
  14. Aquagold, Just re-read and noted that you are looking at snorkling. Subsurface offer dive courses including an intro dive course (bit of techo stuff, skills in the pool and then into the sea). Get into it - the world is different with a scuba on  BTW, the snorkling is pretty cool too
  15. Hey Aquagold Got back from Fiji this afternoon. Absolutely stunning diving. Weather and visibility a bit crap for first few days, had head cold for next few days and visibility 30m+ for last few days. For value you cannot beat Subsurface Fiji. They have an unlimited package (ie as many dives as you can get in) for $690F (own gear except weights and tanks). Due to the head cold only got 10 in myself but basically missed out 4 days diving. Got a couple of hundred underwater photos of everything from acros, anenomes, leathers, clams, sharks, clowns, tangs, sea snake and even a three foot turtle :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Once I have got them sorted out will post them on my photobucket account and let you know.
  16. Saw Puttputts tank today for the first time when I picked up my Arcadia unit - looks awesome. Pics dont do it justice really (not a slap at your photo skills Putt  ) itching to get my new lights up and going but will probably be a week or two away as my work sparkie is off to the Bledisloe Cup in Brissie this weekend (supplier perk lucky B!)
  17. Agree with what TM said. they are very cool looking fish but you do need a heap of sand for them to filter in. Was in Jansens this morning and they had a couple of beauties in there. Almost bought them but I already have a couple of other gobies (phaelena and pink shrimp) and there is probably not enough sand to go round for any more even though I have about 7-8cm depth throughout. Cheers Skippy
  18. Hi Smidey Sorry for the delay in replying, been diving in Fiji looking at what I would like to put in my tank    Oh, if only I could have brought some home with me I think your idea is probably a good starting point. I note you are in Whangarei. Do you shop at Northland Aq and Pets? I try and catch up with Richard (the owner) most times I am down there (he is the friendly lfs owner I referred to in my original post). He could be up for us putting a notice up in his shop to see if there is any interest. I will try and get in touch with him in the next couple of weeks to see if he is keen. He may be interested in helping out as it could be good for business for him  Will post again soon. Sorry it is a bit abrupt but I am a bit wrecked tonight. Got up at 1.00am this morning to get the plane home Cheers Skippy
  19. Hi there all have been scrolling through old posts and not that there is a few people in Northland, found at least two others in Kerikeri (Angel for one) as well as Phillz in Dargaville. There must be more out there. I am a reefer and know of at least a couple of others with marine or reef tanks in Whangarei. Is there any club in Northland, reef or otherwise? I know of another reefer moving up to Kerikeri next summer. Is there any interest is setting up some sort of club? Could be informal to start - just to see if we like each other   - and then if folks are interested we could look at setting up a club of sorts. Given the geographical distances involved, and the likely fact that there are not that many of us in each area of interest (ie reefers, cichlid, etc, etc) it may be better that we have a single club (group) that covers all of us rather than trying to set up a group for each. Be interested in any feedback that folks may have. May also talk to my friendly lfs owner in Whangarei if he knows of anyone in Whangarei that may be interested. If anyone is interested either post on here or pm me but note that I am going to be away for a couple of weeks from tomorrow so may be a while before I get back to anyone. Diving in Fiji    Also if any mods read this, they may want to link it to the fresh and saltwater sections - not too sure how to do it   Cheers Skippy
  20. BTW, nice pic. How'd you get him to stay still for you to take it?
  21. Bummer Chim I lost a baby tang not long after I started in this game. He managed to get his tail trapped in a powerhead intake overnight. Wasn't well the next morning (read dead). Mind you he was only about 2cm so probably didn't have the in-built grunt to get himself out. Hope the big guy pulls through OK, though I agree with Reef that he looks a bit on the slim side. Was he OK before playing like a cork?
