  1. What weird little beasties!! Where did you get them?
  2. Puttputt Have pm'ed you (I think). Never used the pm b4 so hopefully I did it right!
  3. Cool you'd luv it up here and it would be great to have another fisher up here. what are you running - fresh or salt? Keep in touch
  4. Two females - 9yrs (yesterday) the other is 7. Younger one is very noisy though. Somehow I think mum might not approve if I traded the kids for fish stuff!!!
  5. I hear all of you - it can be a bit of a hassle but it is worth it when someone comes in and is completely taken aback with it! Trinity you are so right - moving the whole thing at once is a major. I moved mine 3 times in 18 months - 1 move from Auckland to the Far North. First two were a smaller tank (150 litres) the last one was the tank I have now (360litres) Moved all the water too!! Took a day to shift all the house and a day to shift the tank. I plan on living in this house for a while (although I am thinking how I can modify the house to fit in a plant room - anyone want a couple of kids?)
  6. Thanks Caper Yep, Sadie does have a red stripe straight down the middle of her back. Harrison (the Potters Angelfish) (Get it - Harry Potter!! ) is a bit on the shy side - bit of a shame because he is a beautiful fish. you dont really see the colours in the pic. That is the only complete pic we have got of flash - he moves too fast - hence "flash".
  7. Duh - I need to read a bit more of the post next time  - have given myself a slap in the face for my stupidity
  8. Hi suphew Have you got any pics of your yellow boxer shrimp. Never seen one but it sounds quite cool :bounce:
  9. Heres a couple of pics of my cleaner shrimp. Probably not as big as your one - shes about 3" Fixed Link Bill Mod. Heres one of my fire shrimp - just for something different
  10. Oops http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/skippy_photos/
  11. Hi Caper The trick is to take the photo before you stick the food in!! Have posted a few more pics on the photobucket site http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/skippy_photos/ Hope you enjoy them'> Hope you enjoy them
  12. I had something similar in a tank that I was setting as a trigger tank, except mine was a grey black colour. Had a niger trigger and a spotted toby living in there quite happily. Then introduced a pair of clowns. That nite everything was sweet, next morning tank had crashed!!!! Went all grey and murky, trigger and toby had gone to god and the clowns were gasping at the top of the tank! Saved the clowns by putting them in my reef tank after a recovery period. Disassembled the trigger tank for another time and will just concentrate on my reef tank for the while. :-? Lucky thing was that I nearly spent $275 on a clown trigger but bought the clowns instead!!!!!

    Naso Tangs

You must have been looking in the nursery  I was there diving last year and saw some jumbo versions. Saw a clown trigger that would have been 50cm - amazing. If you want reef envy - go dive there 8)

Stunning tank - severe tank envy at this keyboard The picture of the flame hawkfish is an absolute beauty
  15. Very cool little fish, they are like dogs. My wife wants one but apparently they are pretty fond of shrimp cocktails (not to mention the rest of the shrimp). With two in my tank the flame hawkfish is going to have to wait
  16. Oooooh first time trying the quote box and I stuffed it up. Do you need a "quote" both sides?
  17. Its not a cheap and nasty one (actually it was free - Richard at Northland Aq and Pets gave it to me  ) but it is pretty rudimentary. Got the test kits (Salifert Ca, Alk/carbonate Hardness and the other ususal suspects.) Tank is about 360 litres (bow front so bit hard to measure), about 35-40 kg of live rock. Fishies include pair of fire clowns, yellow tank, 6 line wrasse, brown bar (chimaera) goby, blue green chromis, Potters Angel, Blue damsel. yellow clown goby, fire shrimp, and cleaner shrimp. i've got some kalkwasser (came with the tank secondhand) but to be honest I have no idea how or how much I'm supposed to put in. Any suggestions?
  18. Hi Chimera No I don't have a fancy refractometer, but use one of the floating glass bulb thingies with a thermometer in it to measure salinity reasonably often (maybe not as often as I should). Maybe I should get higher tech. Generally when doing water changes i put in some with less salt than required to compensate for the salinity build up. I use Red Sea Salt mix for my make up water - I'm assuming that it delivers the correct goodies. I also supplement with Coral Ca (amongst others), but have never supplemented Mg. Should I? If so any recommendation?
  19. Hi Cookie I've had quite a few corals depart the scene over the years as well as anenomes. Must admit I am not real clued up on coral species so can't really tell you which ones. I've lost a flowerpot (as a rank reef novice! so no real surprise there), hammers, feather dusters, a couple of sand anenomes and LTA's plus a few others that I have no idea what they were! I seem to have most success with the leathers and mushrooms Yes I do run a skimmer but not carbon I am a bit short on space as all my gear (except the chiller) is under the tank in the cabinet. I ran a carbon filter in my old tank which just had a canister filter but still lost corals. This type of discussion is a bit scary - you start to list the things that have died and suddenly realise how much this "hobby" has cost me over the years!!
  20. No real secret caper. Just a big memory card and lots of patience (mainly the wife to be honest - shes the photo buff). It helps if you wait until feeding time! I think my fish have learnt to tell the time! Must say though it would get a bit expensive taking photos without a digital! BTW - you are bang on with Sadie the Cleaning Lady
  21. I know its not a fish but I found this crab mooching in the bottom of a poly box when I moved house (and aquarium) last year. He'd obviously come out of some of the live rock but I'd never seen him before (or since) Yes he is back in the tank. I know the photo is not too flash but is anyone able to ID this little puppy?
  22. Thanks for the tip Caryl - will remember that one. I'm falling into that trap already! Have already moved it, together with the other one that was on the other side of the mushrooms, about a month ago. Still seems to be receding a bit though. Have just turned it around a bit to give it a bit more light. Yes I have had a few other soft corals recede to nothingness. Weird though, my leathers go absolutely mad. Maybe it is a water issue. Bit of a dangerous game sticking my hands in the tank at the mo - mum clown has gone postal - bit me 4 times today!
