  1. nah, its gunna have the 35cm clown loach and his smaller 20cm buddy, a couple of plecs, some jags, jewels, geos, featherfin synadontis, some parrots (dont yell at me ) and whoever else Ive forgotten
  2. haha, Thanks evil Its going to house some rather large cichlids that are currently living in 2 3fts and a 4ft. Will try and take some decent pics when its up and running.
  3. We have an 8 and 1/2 foot tank at home thats just screaming out to be set up but we need to change some stuff first Is there anyone in the west auckland area that could please please please help? What we need is a couple of sump holes filled and some bracing on the top of the tank. It has a divider in the middle of the tank effectively making it 2 tanks that we would like removed. We have heaps of glass for the top bracing. Is there anybody out there that could give us a hand as we dont really know what to do  Thanks heaps
  4. they will pair up pretty rapidly once they are of breeding size
  5. hey bananalobster I have kribs in my dwarf cichlid tank and yes they rule the roost but only when breeding (which they seem to be doing non-stop!!) Given a cave they will defend it vigourously but otherwise they are very cool. I have a spare hundred or so if you are ever out west auckland
  6. thanks for that. I will have another look tonight. By the way, the GBA's are sooooooo cool. They are in the growout tank for a while and then into the dwarf cichlid tank. YAY. thanks again
  7. Am I having an exceptionaly stupid moment (be nice people ) or does the aqua one cannister filter have a secret way of cleaning the impeller? I cant see how I can get to it easily. does anyone have any suggestions or maybe a spare instruction manual? cause I lost mine  the flow has slowed right down and is still slow after i cleaned the filter and hoses so Im assuming there must be some icky stuff wrapped around the impeller. when i cleaned out the filter I also got about 4 swords, a couple of kribensis and a bristlenose!!! stupid babies
  8. I have a sunsun and its great..........except for the filter   Lights are good, its easy to maintain but the filter only lasted approx 4 months before I ditched it and went for a cannister. You get a lot of condensation dripping down the front of the tank when you open the hood but I think you will get that with most of the hooded tanks.
  9. I have a 3ft. Lighting is brilliant but the filter is shite!! Ive ditched the filter and gone with an aqua one.
  10. if you wanted a couple of kribs Supasi, just PM me and let me know
  11. sorry devon, mine are just the standard ones but I have about 30 or 40 spare at the moment if you want a standard 1 or 5
  12. what about a pair of Kribensis? mine have managed to successfully populate 2 tanks now
  13. OK, he seems to have settled down The larger of the 2 plecos did the "come near me again and Im going to rip your fins off" dance with him and he has got the message 8) GO THE PLECOS!!!!!
  14. right then!! Hes out on his ear (do fish have ears? :-? )
  15. What are these guys usually like. Picked up a nice large one from Pupuke on the weekend (he is about 14cm). The problem is that he is 'hunting' the 2 plecos that are roughly the same size as him.  In 2 days he has managed to create a couple of tears in the sailfin of one pleco and the other one now has a ragged looking fin!!! There are heaps of hidey holes and caves but he just follows the plecos wherever they go. He is only residing in the tank temporarily until his new digs are up and running but there is nowhere else for him to go in the meantime. Will he settle down or is this what they do??? :-?
  16. completely unintentionally, I left about 4 sword fry in a tank with about 10cm of water, gravel, no heater, no plants and no food  and when I got round to cleaning it about 10 days later they all threw me evil looks, complained about the cold and were generally unappreciative about the fact. But STILL ALIVE I apologised profusely and moved them to be with their brothers and sisters. That was in a tank by the backdoor in the middle of winter. So, who knows, swords may be okay outside in the summer :-?
  17. yes, if they opened their ears as much as they do their mouths they would be the most clever fish in Waitakere!!!
  18. Nah, they are just normal ones
  19. the problem I have Fishboi is that they are in a tank of livebearers who are all quite happy to cram down one end of the tank when the kribs start having their family time! I have given them a talking to about sticking up for themselves but to no avail  The only reason the kribs stayed in the tank is cause i couldnt catch the little buggers! And everytime I go to catch them I find mummy krib in the family way
  20. Do these guys ever take a break from breeding or are they out to conquer the world?? I have a pair of kribs that seem to be doing the jiggy dance religiously and Im now getting overun with bubs. In all seriousness though, will they take a break or do I need to seperate them? This latest brood is approx 50-60 babies :-? I still have about 20 from their last spawn.
  21. thanks heaps guys. I went to Muriwai beach yesterday and pinched, oops I mean collected a few shells. Does it matter that they come from a black sand beach? And what is the best substrate to use? Sorry for all the dumb questions
  22. so above 7.5 and stable should make for happy campers? I have some bottles of the PH up and PH down but have never had to use them. Are they any good?
  23. thanks heaps Ryan . Just waiting on the last of the tetras and the RTB shark to go to their new homes and the adventures will begin!!!
  24. thanks everyone. I have got rid of everyone out of the community tank and will be using this for my malawi adventure. Its a 180ltr deep 3ft with a fluval 204. How many wee fishies could happily live in here? As it has been running for a while now as a community tank, do I take the carbon out or is it ok to stay in the filter basket? I changed it about 2 weeks ago.
  25. Oh and someone else said I cant use carbon in my filter..........
