  1. Hi all I took some advice and bought some more clown loaches, so now I have a really cool group of 6. 8) But since the gang formed I have noticed that alot of my previously well-established plants are now floating. I am replanting an average of one a day!!! Is it the loaches digging them up?
  2. you could always put him in a tank of cichlids then I bet he would back down............
  3. My RTB (named Smine, a shortened version of thats mine) was doing the same until I added more hidey holes and caves. He has now learnt to share The clown loaches give him a run for his money though which can be rather funny to watch He was almost named Osama due to the unneccessary terrorism in the tank but is back to being affectionatly called smine as he still likes to think all the hidey holes belong solely to him.
  4. Ive got my kribs in my livebearer tank and while they rule the tank, its only when they are reproducing. Mine swim around with everyone quite happily and I think they quite like the plants as thats where there babies congregate. I have noticed they do tend to have a wee nibble on occasion :-? They also have their own "jug" known as 'headquarters' which they defend quite aggresively.
  5. haha, I was there about 15 mins before closing which could explain why "2 should be enough"
  6. Agreed. Some fishkeepers do feed live bait but my opinion (and only mine) is based on my peaceful vegetarian community tank The look on a spirulina disc's face as it sinks to its death is nowhere as horiffic as a wee mouse.
  7. I personally dont have a problem with the whole feeding of the mouse aspect, its the fact that it was dropped in still alive. In the video you see the poor thing just about walking on water to escape. How hungry did those fish have to be to create such a frenzy at the thought of food?
  8. More clowns? Really? How many bottom dwellers would be the max for a 3ft tank? I have the pleco and the 2 loaches. I would love some more clowns but the guy at the LFS told me 2 was enough for my tank.
  9. Ewwwwwwwwww. That poor mouse was still alive when they dropped it in.
  10. They have been reclusive since they were moved to their bigger better tank. There are heaps of plants both planted and floating so Im not sure what their problem is. I have another 3ft livebearer tank with guppies, swords and mollies so Im not really keen to have these guys in both tanks. I was hoping to have some nice medium size fishies to take over display duties from the gouramis
  11. there are 3 gold ones, 2 females, 1 male (the 2 girls seem to have a very definite black tiger like striping on them) and 2 blue ones (sorry, I dont know the proper colour terminology). They have very pale black dots on them. Are they called 3 spot or something along those lines?? Im after some advice and ideas on what I can replace them with.
  12. Hi all I am wanting to get rid of my 5 gouramis (all about 10-15cm) as all they do is hide in the plants and when they are swimming, its usually right behind some poor tetra swimming for its life :-? . They are just not appreciating their surroundings!!! What I want to know is what you guys would recommend as newbies for the tank? They would be housed with: 4 black widow 5 neons 5 black neon 8 lemon tetra 2 dwarf royal red (??) gourami 1 pleco Smine, the RTB shark 8) Arthur and Martha the 2 clown loaches and obi wan the goby (bumblebee) It is a 180 ltr 3ft tank. Any ideas? Im wanting something a little slower than the tetras and a lot more placid than the gold gouramis and the ever reclusive blue ones. Thanks
  13. Ooooh Right then, looks like my night is planned. A spot of fishing
  14. what will happen if I dont intervene and leave them all in the old tank? I dont want to have a tank full of 35 year old dependants that just wont leave home because its cheap board and all their meals are prepared!
  15. Hi all How soon before I can take Ma and Pa Kribensis away from their kiddies? Dad is starting to give chase to the odd one or two but then he confuses me and starts looking out for them again  Ma and Pa Krib have worked hard and saved their pebbles and now have a bigger better brighter tank to move to. All the babies are doing their own thing but I noticed last night when I was doing some tank gardening the babies still rush over their safehouse and mum and dad watch the perimeter. :-? They are about 6 or 7 weeks old now and are starting to show some colour instead of just the stripes. When Im not playing in their tank, they are quite happily swimming around and even trying to fit the baby mollies and swords in their mouths Am I going to upset the family by rehoming mum and dad? :-?
  16. I am in the middle of setting up a bigger, new tank, so I might wait till thats ready, shift all the fish and then start treating it. So, once all the fishies are out and claiming territory in their new tank, can I hit the tank hard with salt?
  17. Thanks. It is a 120 ltr, 3 foot with the lights in built into the hood. Im not sure what sort they are though. The lights are on for between 10 and 11 hours a day max. I havent ever put salt in the comm tank due to having the plec and BN's. I could always try and catch the kribs and take them out? The babies are about 4 weeks old now? Is that too early to take them away from the parents? The parents are still REALLY defensive altough the bubs are a decent size now. None of the BN's are eating the algae stuff so Im assuming its yucky stuff.
  18. I have Gold, Blue and Royal red gouramis, black widow tetras, Kribensis and babies, a pleco and some bristlenose. Oh and some lemon tetras and a RTB shark. Would any of these be called sensitive? Will the flourish stuff not hurt the wee kribensis babies? All the plants in the livebearer tank are great and that tank gets pretty much the same done to it as the community one with the exception of some salt. How would it have got in the tank?
  19. help me oh wise ones............ I have, over the last week or so, noticed that a few of my plants have got like a wispy black hairy fungus growing on the tips . It only seems to be on the ones closest to the lights. My lights are on for about 10 hours a day. Is this too long? I have tried pulling the stuff off the leaves but its like someone has glued it there  . It doesnt budge. Can anyone tell me what it is and how I get rid of it? The guy at my LFS said I had to take all the fish out and run bleach through the tank . Is there any other options? I am using flourish excel once a fortnight and they all seem to still be growing okay. :-?
  20. AH HA! It all makes sense now. The community tank is a 3 ft reasonably heavy planted one with a piece of driftwood effectively seperating the tank (its rather large). I have to keep trimming my plants as they wont stop growing. I have no idea if Im cutting the wrong bits off or not but they all seem okay  The livebearer tank is only a 2ft but again heaps of plants for all the bubs.
  21. Hi all This may seem like a dumb question but........ Can I put a siamese fighter (male) in a community tank? He would be going in with Gouramis, Kribs, Black widows and BN's. I have also got a livebearer tank with swords, mollies and guppies. Would he be better in with them? They seem heaps more placid.
  22. Hey Caryl I forgot................. and a pond!! With about 30 goldfish, some frogs and on the odd occasion..... a border collie!!!! I now have some more molly babies!! YAY and some guppies are looking like they are fit to burst!!! :-? Candy, I dont get on horsetalk much. I occasionaly have a lot at the for sales but them quickly remember how many mouths there are already demanding feeding when I get home.
  23. Been there, done that as well. Maybe I have OCD??? I have one at home, have one on lease, my sister has 2 at home, 1 on lease and one in foal to the new German hanovarian, Limonit. So residing in animal bliss on a west auckland lifestyle block are: 4 horses :-? 4 dogs  4 cats 15 chickens 1 3ft community (with baby krib bubs) 1 2ft livebearer tank (with sword bubs) 1 empty 1ft (mmmmm, what next for this one??) 1 4ft cichlid tank (lots of nasties) and 1 hugely anticipated 8ft tank awaiting its stand.......... Oh yeh, and then theres some people to administer the daily feeding requirements.............
