  1. Oooo. I like this idea. How long do I run the 2 of them?
  2. Hi all I dont know if this is in the right section or not. I have a bigger, better, newer, shinier cannister filter that I am wanting to put on my Malawi tank   What do I need to do to make sure Im not going to upset the tenants? The 2 filters are different in design, so the media isnt going to fit into a nice little slots. Can I just jam some of the old media into the new filter and assume relative safety for Mr Malawi and friends??

    400ltr pond

Hey, Im not sure where abouts in Auckland you are but we have watercress growing in all the waterways around our area, Kumeu. Theres a vege shop on SH16 which has a stream running alongside the road. We always get watercress from there.
  4. those sea dragons are rather strange
  5. have you ever sat in your car on the side of the road aiming a hair dryer at the passing cars??? We did and its amazing how many cars will slow down thinking its a radar gun. Mind you, you have to be ready to put it away REAL quick if a cop car comes because apparently "its just imbecilic" but funny all the same
  6. Have you tried Okura Beach? We got a fab piece from there. The best bits are in the river as opposed to the beach.

    Cool Photo

But puttputt, wasnt that what you were going to do anyway??? Its a fantastic photo
  8. HAHA, thats the stuff. Dolomite is what we feed the horses  Thanks heaps everyone
  9. Bummer, I was hoping that was avoidable. All the tanks are full up! And I dont think they would all want to cram into a 2ft until their refurnished house was ready.
  10. I want to call it Dolomite but I dont think thats right  The guy at the LFS told me its for malawis and/or marine
  11. Im changing it to the white stuff to try and help my PH levels that are far from steady at the moment I have oyster shells in my filter but the PH is swinging anywhere between 7ish and 7.8
  12. Hi all I dont know if this is posted in the correct section but here goes......... I need to replace the gravel in my Malawi tank and Im not too sure where to start? 1) Will I be upsetting the bacteria levels by removing all the old gravel? 2) What is going to be the easiest way of getting the old stuff out (if the answer to #1 is no) All thoughts and experiences gratefully received.
  13. roughly 2 weeks but another 2 before the first one died
  14. Well, Im down to 2 now
  15. Im thinking so because I got a friend some at the same time and I have just spoken to her. She tells me hers are the same but she didnt say anything because she thought it was something she had done :-? I might email the breeder as well I think and let her know whats going on.
  16. Ummmmmmmmm, yes and no. Mine are ok for a few minutes and then are on the bottom of the tank (horizontal), then they swim in a couple of circles and then are back on the bottom. They arent doing the upside down thing though.
  17. Ive PM'd you with the details I have. One of mine was dead when I got home last night I think the kribs may have bashed him around a bit with him not being able to move that quickly
  18. Burgo Did you get these of trade me? I bought some around the same time and 3 of my 5 are doing the same as yours.
  19. haha, thats one brave shark!!!
  20. hehe, its a 90 year+ old villa with you guessed it......................Wooden floors  Some major bracing work is needed for the floor too but we have some one organised for that
  21. Thanks Ryan. I will check with the sister tonight and see how much she has to spend.
  22. Thanks all. The jags are 2 males who seem to get picked on by everyone else  Wimps. The others are digging though. We had a bare bottom 4ft the other day with a whole heap of gravel up the sides The clown loach is funny, no-one else is allowed in his drainpipe (not that anyone can fit when hes in it) he is huge, I think the only reason he comes out is when everyone spits gravel on him. I will try and get a pic of him The tank is about 450 high by 550 wide (or is it the other way around?) and the filters are 1200 lph (I think). Both the 3fts are complete with stands and hoods so its not really an option to use them as a sump tank
  23. weve got the surinemensis. they are very cool. they hold their own in the tank but arent aggressive at all. We can get a few more once the monster tank is up and running
  24. thanks all. I think the only reason behind getting the holes filled is that we dont know anything about running a sump tank  How do they work?
  25. Im pretty sure its 12mm. We have 2 cannister filters to run in it (I cant remember lph) The bracing in the middle of the tank goes right to the top which splits the tank and the silicone is knackered so I dont think its doing much in the way of support. If there was enough top bracing would this provide the same level of support?
