  1. Its got me stumped because the link works but cant get them to wrk on here, maybe theyre too big for the forum or something, someone else may know how to figure it out? Nice looking newts though, how old and big are they, they look rather big?
  2. True sounds abt like what ive done, I do think spagnum moss will be a good idea though and i remember seeing some up in the hills a year or so ago so i may go back and see if its still there!! Heres a pic of my newt setup when i first set it up, now got a bit of drift wood linking the water and land and the plants have grown abit but basically the sme; lil newt stalking some white worms; 2 newts on the rock'
  3. I rememer reading if you mist or keep the land area moist (like i do) they dont need to go into the water so much as they are all ready hydrated, if that makes sense! So maybe if the land area is kept dry they maybe tempted to go for a swim every so often, just a thought as maybe thats why some seem to stay in the water and others dont
  4. Thanks thats good to know about the bloodworms, ill be trying that this week when i get some more bloodworms! Ive got some lil (7-8 months old) chinese firebellies and they seem to love aphids and whiteworms, but like alanmin ive never seen them in the water which i thought was odd, maybe they dont go in the water untill abit older and when close to breeding perhaps??
  5. Maybe a silly questions but did you feed them the bloodworms on land or in the water??
  6. I dont know alot about them really as i havent had mine very long but if its live food they'l find it, ive been finding leaves in the garden with aphids on and i just drop the whole leaf into there land area and they soon find them, and white worms i try to drop near the newts but its not a major as theyl hunt them down!
  7. Are you the person that got them from lara3 on trademe ?? I had my eye on those 8) When i first got my chinese fire bellies i had there land area done with fine sand but it was sticking to them even when it was wetted down so I didnt like the look of it and im sure they didnt like it either so now Ive got just normal old dirt from outside mixed with a lil bit of potting mix and they seem and look happy as in amongest a fem plants, infact i havent seen them leave the land area to go into the water lol dunnoo whats up there!! The other good thing about a soil based substrate ive found if you over feed the whiteworms (which im not having much luck culturing) theyll bury into the soil and pop up at night and the little newts can go on a hunt
  8. Thats a good price, If you dont mind me asking how long did it take to grow them from 2cm up to breeding size/5cm+??
  9. Haha thats not tooo bad, I paid $300 for my group of gba's (1 male and 3 fem lol) thats $75 each but yea im crazy! I just wanted them then and there, so thats what I got for been impatient, but theyre neat fish and thats only 30 fry at 10bux each, go figure!
  10. well just to top it off ive finally identified these lil flat worm things ive got in the same tank as PLANARIA, darn things hopefully the formalin help kill these aswell as the hydra!
