  1. Welcome back, so how many tanks do you have? You can snorkle at Kelly Tarltons?? Swwweeeeeettt... 8)
  2. Hey Marion welcome to the forums
  3. Hey jimbojonez, yeah plants keep all the stuff that makes fish sick (nitrates, nitrates, phosphates) low, and kinda improves water quality. Depending on what plant you want in the tank you may not even have to do anything different - except prune I gravel vac open spaces, plants seem to grow better when I dont tho. Good luck making your decision!
  4. They looked like little brown gooey grainy things. To be honest I really didn't get a good look before I flushed her, and I've never seen otto eggs especially from a fish thats alive (found her remains behind a rock, she'd been missing for a couple of days), and her body was kinda squished by the tongs . So maybe it wasn't eggs at all. Her stomach was huge, and got huger and huger over the period of 2 months. She kept on eating till the very end... Caryl her diet was algae, i've never seen her touch any of the cucumbers, or courgettes that the SAEs polish off. How would I prevent otos from getting constipation if they won't touch anything else but the green stuff on the glass? Thanks. Cesarz I dont think and hope its not tuberculosis, its rare in tanks, and they usually get a bent spine as well I thought. But guess whos gonna double glove anyway next time I clean the tank It was soft if anything, and kinda lumpy. Thanks everyone for your replies, kinda sad cos she was the biggest oto in the tank but life goes on.
  5. Yup, I think is eggs... do fish die if they become pregnant with no suitable males? I think I've only had males before so this is all new for me. Just a bit concerned cos shes the 3rd oto and the 4th member of the tank to bite the dust.
  6. The oddest thing happens to my ottos, they get really really big in the stomach, and then I find them dead. It only happends to the bigger ones... happened to a sterbai cory as well. Is it because shes full of eggs and theres no male around? Contemplating doing an autopsy to see if its a growth or if shes gravid... would I be able to tell?

    Hi All

Hey Corms Really like the look of the aqua one tanks. Pretty awesome. Welcome to the forums!
  8. Yeap its looking that way. Just wondering, cos the community tank is getting prreeeettty full at the moment: 10 cardinals 2 rams 2 SAEs 7 medium discus 2 whiptails 5 cories 1 queen pleco .. in a 255l tank... a shoal of clowns aint a good idea even with two filters going. You think maybe one or two to clean it up and back into another tank by themselves? Not looking forward to nabbing them in the community tank :-?
  9. Oh yeah whoops  Killiefish?
  10. Hey Ronnie, you're up late. Yah, pH of the tank is about 6 and fluctuates a bit cos of the really soft water in my area. Thanks the advice, saved me a lot of grief. Its been so good, the tanks been snail free for almost half a year, been real careful to scrub and quarantine everythin. Contamination prob happened when I was transferring rams from breeding/quarantine tank to community tank... First I saw one snail, and then three, now they're everywhere...
  11. Just wondering do all loaches eat snails? Snails are multiplying like crazy.... and I think I need a solution. Also, would sensitive fish like plecos/discus be alright with tx like copper sulphate?
  12. My Jebo filter kept on doing that as well until I cut a round hole in a filter sponge and stuck it around the outlet tube (post filter filter?). The gauze worked a treat too until it got clogged and the water came down thru the overflow. Damn noise kept on making me want to go to the toilet! :-?
  13. Hey Aaron, welcome to the forums. Does it look like this? or something like this? The first one is a flexibacter infection the other one is velvet.
  14. Very nice pics! Where would you get a water barrels like that?
  15. Congrats man! They look awesome, very nice pics..
  16. Whoa, he did that in a couple of hours?? Wow... hope he pulls though
  17. Lol true, considering quite a few of the shops actually buy fish from people on this forum, like discus, and gbas.... I'd still buy stuff like filter wool and fish food from shops though, but the real reason is I like going in to look at fish I can't have
  18. Go for the whiptails! They're awesome! I've got 2 rhineloricaria whips with 5 cories, no problems whatsoever, they eat everythin and anythin, and they're good bottom cleaners too. But if you want to eat algae go for the bristlenose, cos I've never seen mine ever suck on the glass...
  19. Hollywood fish farm is awesome, prob the best I've been to so far! Theres on in Frost Road, near Mt Eden, and the other one is in North shore Albany, in Tawa drive. Goldfish Pagoda along cascades road is pretty cool too. And there are Jansens all over the place.

    hello from Auck

Hey Souxsi! Welcome to the forums! One of my workmates is wanting to give away one of her angel males, its not getting along with the other one she had... don't supposed you'd be interested would you? I can find out more if you'd like.
  22. Thanks suphew and freakyfish for your advice. I've got indian ferns and swords at the moment, and I think I've just run out of room for more plants. I'll try cutting down on the food. I've introduced 4 more otos (7 now) and they're really mowing down all the brown algae, if they keep doing what they're doing I might just ditch the phos-zorb and let them go hard. Thanks again~!
  23. These couple of months I've been plagued by brown algae. The tank was set up in April, so its been only about 3 months, I'm doing plenty and plentry of water changes, about 25% every two days, but it got so irritating that I thought I'd check my water to make sure everything is ok. So anyways my nitrates/nitrates are good, ammonia zero, kH is very low, pH about 6.0, which is slightly worrying, but cos I have discus, tetras and rams they all doing good. The thing is my phosphates are 2.0, which is probably why my algae is going out of control according to the guy at the shop. So I bought phopho-zorb to try and reduce it short term. The question is, how would I decrease phosphates in the long term? And should I be worried about the water hardness? Oyster shells, and kH stabilizers were his solution but I don't particularly like playing around with the pH if I can help it. Apparently water in my area is soft, which is a complete opposite from Dunedin where I came from so I'm not sure what I can do about it. Any thoughts or advice?
  24. Wow that looks awesome. Very nice :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
