Use a fish that can outrun Africans, I use Rainbows which can easily outrun Africans and they like the high PH too.

Normally 3 weeks or more, but if you want to strip the fry after 3 weeks is OK but some does it earlier than 3 weeks, I normally separate the female and let her spew the fry by herself then I put her back to the colony.

I used old washing basket, filing tray and even dish rack secured with suction cups for my big fish.

If you are technically minded and have a good nick in pulling apart things (aren't we all) you can modify it, you can separate the bulb and battery from the solar panel and mount the panel permanently by your window and the bulbs and batteries on the tank. You can put a switch as well so it does not light up automatically at night.

The cheapest thing to use for Moonlight are those solar garden lights, I put them by the window during the day to charge them and normally last for few hours at night, its free power and they are cheap nowadays, 8 for $20 in the Warehouse.

The best "Investment" I bought is a Siphon from 2 dollar shop, I attached a small empty plastic bottle of Water Ager with the bottom cut out at the sucking end and a long hose on the other that goes straight out of my window, the plastic bottle acts like a gravel vacuum and the best part is the Siphon only cost me 1$.

Or stuff you use to insulate the Hot water cylinder, in that way you minimise the loss of heat in the tank, saving you power. You can also use solar power to light up the Cupboard, you can buy a complete unit in Mitre 10 for $100+ which is enough to light up a cupboard.

Hi guys I just notice that most of the fries my 5 females are dropping are mostly females, from the first 2 drops I only got about 4 males and most of them are females. Is there any reason for these and what can I do to get more males. Cheers

I have 5 in my African tank and they are thriving with that PH.

Yes, I have some juvenile female that are half black maybe I can have a pure black strain aswell if I continue line breeding this ones.

Yes I have, just got them last night in Pupuke FS. I think he has another one there that I might grab this weekend if its still there. I think the owner is a member here. He has some solid reds and a white tail that I bought aswell. He is selling it for $7 each.
