Just a silly question you are clicking on the photo you want to view?
-
Thanks Terry I will take some of the complete setup so that you all can get a better feel for the size they are.

Finally got them back, this is the first set (glass on the outside needed a clean) so enjoy . http://community.webshots.com/user/macka130

I currently have 2. Of course theres jonathon, he is currently 40cm in length, he was about 30cm when he arrived, Ive had him for about a year and a half. His diet is beefheart, shrimp, prawns, chicken hearts, moths, beefheart vege mix(have to trick him into eating this by droping it in with beefheart). He is housed in a 6'*2'*2' tank. The second one I have is (little jonathon ) about 20cm in length and was only about 12cm when I picked him up, hes been living here for about a year. Hes the fussy one, currently he'll only eat beefheart, shrimp, prawns, live fish. He inhibits a 6'*2'*2' tank with the arowanas. . Future plans hope to get a couple more to form a school .

Has any ever seen one in NZ or at all. Better yet does anyone own one? I'm trying to find out whether I can get one.
-
Well not much success from the arowana thread (you people should buy some ) so richard and i thought we would start this one. So who has got them? how big where they when you got them? how big are they now? what is there diet? Housing? future plans (buy more or bigger tank) and Richard can post first
-
I was just thinking that richard, so i will start it today, unless you wanna start this one? That siam tiger is owned by friends of mine and yes they have just joined up.
-
Where have you been hiding i suppose you were on holiday at some nice location
-
Well i will get it started I currently have 2 arowanas. 1 silver arowana 12 inches big (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum)and 1 Pearl arowana 10 inches big(Scleropages jardini). I currently kept them in a 6'*2'*2' tank filtration is a eheim 2217. Water temp is set at 27 degrees and ph is 7.2. I also kept with them 1 siam tiger (little jonathon), 2 silver dollars, 1 banded leporinus, and 1 royal panaque. I do a 50% water change once a week. My next arowana will (have to twist partners wrist) a asian arowana hopefully a red but will be happy to get either a gold or a green, either of these will be a nice addition.

A couple of weeks gone by now and all is well. The new zebras are all eating very well, and putting some size on now. 5 days ago i added my male zebra to the tank and well hes even happier than i was, even he is eating better. All of the zebras have lost there shyness and will come out to eat whenever there is food is added to the tank. There favourite is of course bloodworm but will eat beefheart, tetra bits (color bits), fresh shrimp, shrimp pellets, and jbl nova tabs. I am going to put a powerhead in the tank in a couple of weeks time to see if they will breed for me (fingers crossed) and also to see the reaction to a swifter current. Ill kept adding updates opon doing this.

I was wondering who has any arowana in there tanks at home, what size, age, how big was it when you got it, diet, housing, future plans, and what made you buy it (them).

Geophagus  sounds a bit biased here, only $5 I can get you discus for $5. They will definitely win Klatoos wife over. 150 litre planted tank with 4 discus a few corys and school of cardinals sounds nice I think goldie will agree

Thanks Benny I meant to come back and do that, so thank you again, no sorry i dont have any photos yet in the next couple of days i will. Midas unfortunately i havent as yet, problem is that when they spawn my green severums eat a few of the eggs after about 24 hours of being laid, so then the oscars give up caring for them and then a feeding frenzy begins. I am currently using all my tanks so i cant move them either. This problem is being remeded as I have found a home for the severums and the oscars are back in the mood for spawning after a break (a long break, had to let the female rest after poping her eye  ) so hopefully some fry sortly. Midas are you interested in some young? Sorry about the pics as they are not the best as it was the first time i had used a digital camera and didnt know how to use it correctly, I promise some nicer pics sortly
-
Goldie remember that my female oscar poped her eye, and the vet fixed it up, but the reason behind that is that two to three days prior to spawning, she always produces to much of a certain hormone. As for popeye I thought doing a water change helped, or melafix, or a needle pearched into the swelling would relieve a fish of this alignment a bit (not brave enough to do this), Dont surpose this would be easy to do on a threadfin rainbow. Years ago i had a kribensis that would get popeye but then the swelling would go down and up and down and up etc never worked out why :-?

I have posted these at http://community.webshots.com/album/59224741uReOaf in the community, pets, aquatic sections search for album siam tiger or username macka130. The photos are about a year old and a bit blurry but digital camera has gone on the blink so no new photos yet, also there is some photos of my pair of golden oscars spawning. Also have a look at some of the other albums for there is some nice photos of fish and tank setups, gave me alot of new ideas. I have corrected the web address for quicker access. Thanks Benny

Redwoods have quite a selection at the moment, had adults and juvenilles of almost every thing that you could think of, once again it depends what your after, Tangs or malawians. Pet World have quite a few at the moment, not sure on what they had (didnt pay enough attention). Is your club are still coming down in jan?

Alls well, got them home after spending 1 hour double bagging each fish, plus 1 stubborn zebra that didnt wanna get out of his hole in the log :-? . Got them home and into their new home, they are all currently exploring every nook and cranny at the moment , already got them to eat some tetra bits, its amasing how time flys, I have just spent 6 hours watching them reason why this message is so late . I dont think im going to get a lot of sleep tonight, to much watching to be done with the night light on

Only 2 sleeps to go, cant wait its like christmas, wait it is christmas, so excited cant sleep,

Yes Discus are hybrids as the different species and subspecies have been crossed that they have lost the family tree as such. Why is this accepted? Because they are similar. What an uproar that would cause if these groups got on that cause, Which danio is man made? and cichlids will crossbred in nature themselves. example central americans, if a species is isolated by its self it will reproduce with a local species, they are really bad for this, I think you are not supposed to kept cichlasoma motaguanse and cichlasoma managuense together or was it the cichlasoma motaguanse and cichlasoma dovii (not sure what combination it is) also the jack dempsey with similar looking fish like itself, and so i choose to sit on the fence on this one. As for dyed fish I dont agree with that, injecting a fish that costs 10 cents to boost its value to $2 is really quite money grubbing and degrading. But people buy them. These subjects are touchy so i agree with cid each to their own, All this has been covered in a tfh magizine, I will try find the issue no.

An update picking them up saturday the 21st, cant wait. I went and had a look yesterday and yes they are heathly, eating flake which my male wont touch, and bodys and fins where intact, and very alert, like any bueatiful catfish doesnt want to be seen, bloodly bogwood, any to excited not to share will post an update on saturday night and probably every night after that (not joke). The tank im gonna put them in is 5'*1'*1', filtered by a whisper filter , eheim pickup filter and a rena powerhead (1200 lph) with spray bar connected for the river like flow. I was going to put some guppys in as a dither fish, any ideas for dithers for this tank as i think the flow is to strong for the guppys andmaybe a bit to soft, ph 7.0 filtered gh medium to soft (water filtered through a little peat).

Richard are these the fish that are for sale in one of those asian arowana sites, if they are they are selling for around $1000 to $2500 us i think could be very wrong. To get them in just ask the shops which import thier own stock or try the major shops in the north island, will courier them to your door for about $25, in chch try redwoods, pet world, or the fishtank, if you have any luck let me us know for they are an awesome looking fish.

I got a call yesterday about my zebras plecos, they are ready for me to pick up, 5 of them all about 18 months of age, not quite ready to breed but only 6 months away from it HOPEFULLY. My male is very happy Thought Id share that with my fishy friends.
