  1. caryl the female jag of yours had about 1500 babies, i hope to get a few juvenilles in a couple a weeks time.
  2. In defence of what i posted earlier, What i meant is that by doing a water change it improves the quality of the water, for why do fish get disease? It generally is because of the conditions we supply them, when these conditions deteriorate the fishes imune system becomes rundown, and are more subsectable to infection. Now on to the salt. yes using salt is good for some illness, as i use it for my oscars. Arowanas on the other hand have very soft gill membranes which can be damaged by incorrect dose of salt, sorry table salts do not alter the ph  I hoped that has cleared up what I meant sorry to cause any disrepute, sorry last comment is that salt is better used as a medicated bath, this way you can up the dosage a bit and target the ill fish.
  3. Goldie I think I need some Lamprologus Compressiceps (If to say need so margaret lets me get them). I was thinking about a red bellied pacu Or as they advertised red bellied pirhana but she will kick me out if i do (she started reading the tfh mag and my books and is now cottoning on to what is what, BUGGER)
  4. Try a 25% to 50% water change that should bring them right. Be careful using salt as this will alter your ph and cause more stress make sure you add just the required amount. Check your water parameters.
  5. What type of plecos and syndontis cats are you trying. I currently are running 2 6"*2"*2" tanks with the first one containing two breeding pairs of oscars (Lemon or golden oscars not albino and red tiger pair). Hopefully i will have some young hatching in a days time, two pair of green severums, 2 sailfin plecos, a pair of port hoplo cats, And the full grown Siam Tiger. In tank 2 there is 1 silver arowana, 1 pearl arowana, 1 siam tiger, 2 upside downs, and two silver dollars. Tank 3 is 1.5 metres long 85 cm wide 60 cm high. It contains 2 pair of blue turq discus 10 other blue turq discus, a pair of dwarf flag cichlids, 4 snowball plecos, 1 gold nugget pleco, 1 zebra pleco, 2 bristle noses, 3 large clown loaches, 1 banded leporinus, 1 dwarf otto, and 6 panda corys ooops almost forgot the tetras a few lemon and neons. Tank 4 120 cm * 40 cm *45 cm contains 7 frontosa 3 duboisi 1 syndontis decorus (looking for amother 6 footer for these guys). Tank 5 is just a small 2 footer with 3 tiger barbs, 1 royal panaque, and the last fish is the six-barred distichodus, and thats about it.
  6. what fish are you currently keeping, how many tanks do you run pegasus, and a big hello to goldie, has megan got a new list?
  7. Thanks Pegasus. I have told a couple of friends about this site already they seem pretty interested. The tropical fish trade down here seems to be really taking of at the moment. Their has been quite a selection available at the moment, That time of year when seasonal stuff pops up, but you do have to be quick. I dont know about your end of things but i dont think people are as scared to spent big dollars on fish anymore, i suppose that comes down to experience and a good wealth of information being available on the net. At the end of day that means we are all better of if these fish are able to breed and produced in numbers.

    arowana

Hey benny i like your taste in fish mate Jardinis are available and they are not illegally anymore, they cost $250 for a 2 Inch fish. I have seen a black arowana at pet world in chch about two years ago. the jardinis at a foot in length are around $1000 each. I had my name down for a red asian, not through jansens through a chch wholesaler but they could not fill the orders (they werent as dare around $2000 for a red $1500 for a gold) You have to order min of 6, 3 of each. If ever in chch go to redwoods he has a nice jardini there not for sale though he got offered alot of dough for it and said nope its mine its a display fish, what a awesome display, beginners walk in and are overawed by it.

    Siamese tiger

Try beefheart cut into small pieces or fresh shrimp or prawns he will love it. Ignore the info you find Cause it could be very old and untrue now. They have changed the classification on this so many times now its not funny. email for photocopys on the tigers info for i have some really new stuff that will help you. I dont wanna sound rude but thats a bit on the high side redwoods had them last week for $42 each. Sorry none left
  12. recently they changed the classification of this fish and is now coius mircolepis and the thailand, sumatra, borneo are all the same fish. the confusion was that some where found in brackish and others in fresh water. They swim upstream from the brackish waters to fresh waters to mate. The coius Quadrifasciatus is a muddy silver brown colour with sometimes incomplete strips, where the earlier is white or yellow colour. I take that young guys strips are still forming, and dont be alarmed by the growth as it very slow about 2-3 inches a year. They also shake disease of quite easliy, if it shows signs of sickness just check your ph make sure its 7.2 then do a water change and it will come right.
