  1. Wheres the discus.... Haha jokes, sounds like it will be a sweet tank once setup... But yea i agree with the others, keep the holes and use a sump on it!! It gives more media space, and more litreage... What kind of geos do you have for it? Surunimensis?? Brasiliensis?? Geos are cool. I got 7 baby brasiliensis the other day and they are sooo cool
  2. I hope those cichlids are discus!!!! Planted 8 and a 1/2 foot tank, hundreds of W's of metal halide, Crazy co2 system, Several large discus, Hundreds of cardinals, BN, ottos and SAE cleanup crew, hundreds of sterbai corys..... Ahhhhhhh............ Stop dreaming Rogan!!
  3. 8 and a 1/2 foot!! I would be more than happy to help you if i didnt live so far away.... Good luck with the tank... And dont forget the pics!!!
  4. So you reckon if i took it off i would be sweet then??!!??
  5. Hi I have a 1200 x 400 x 500 (500 being the height) tank made out of 10mm glass. it is a professionally made tank, in good condition. It has bracing on the top of each end around 70-100mm, glued very well. When i bought the tank it did not have a middle brace, but i siliconed one on myself to be safe. I have now realised that having the middle brace is a pain in the A**. Just a question for all the glass/tank gurus.. Would this tank be alright without the middle brace?? It is a very thick tank, which doesnt need such thick glass to be alright anyways... The glass thickness calculator says that the same size tank in 6.8 mm would have a safety factor of 2, and the same size tank in 9.3mm would have a safety factor of 3.8, so im guessing that the tank in 10mm would be around the 4 mark (that info may help, i duno ) So would it be safe without the centre brace? or do i just keep it there?? Thanks

  11. Hey I used a nutrafin system for a little while which uses little sachets that come with the product which contain the apropriate ingrediants... All you need to do is add water and sugar. i found the system pretty good. Now i have a sodastream bottle with regulator bought off toolsonline on trademe for $75. I havent been using it much as im still getting over green water (*&%$^) I find it sort of hard to get a steady bubble rate though. You need a needle valve if you use this reg as the adjuster on it is not fine enought to adjust the bubble rate adequately... The bubble rate also slows with the pressure in the bottle so it needs constant adjustment (every week or so) IMO it is best to go for a proper system (bigger bottle, proper regulator with gauges, solenoid etc.) as it is much easier, and cheaper in the long run to use. The only problem is the initial cost.... HTH
  12. I have had green water in my 250L planted tank 3 different times now, And i have no idea why. I only have 80W of light on the tank ATM, and the plants are growing like crazy, but it keeps coming back...The only way i could get rid of it was to wait, and do water changes as i usualy would. ALOT of people say that water changes just feeds the algae more because it is putting fresh oxygenated water into the tank and the algae will thrive off this, but i swear by this way, as it has always worked for me. I have never tried daphnia (because i have never been able to get them) and i havent tried a UV steriliser (too many $$ ) Im sure both of these will work well, but i am happy to wait it out.... Thats my thoughts
  13. Sorry to dig this back up, but yea, u got it
  14. Ohk sweet deal. Fair enough for that kind of money then... Well done. it does look like a nice sturdy tank with that bracing etc..... Hope it works out alright
  15. Yea i agree with you there. I wouldnt bother making a tank over 2-3 foot, and i would only make one of them if i had the glass hanging around... Much easier and safer to get greg to make it  I have made a 3 foot tank before with my mate, and that is still running, but i personally wouldnt go any bigger... Smaller tanks are easy to make, and i usually have the glass just sitting around anyways
  16. Your not at work... YOUR NOT AT WORK!! Man your guna get in trouble for this one.....
  17. I thought they sent shoots to the top before they send out baby plants... thats what i was told anyway... Mine has palm sized leaves on it most around the 6-7 cm height from the bottom, and then it sent out some big leaves to the surface, and now i have 4 baby plants from it......
  18. Loc-line is a good thing to use for that there is a range of loc-line products here HTH
  19. Hi Just saw this on another site and thought i might post it here to show what can be done to increase flow/decrease restriction etc.... picture here As you can see, the person has cut the bottom off the unit and attached a bigger plumbing part, then cut of the outlets, and drilled the holes out and glued bigger piping into it... Thought it looked quite cool so would post it original thread here
  20. Oh and thanks for all that other info about compatability etc wasp.
