  1.  twas' a loooong journey....  All this skimmer business just REALY confuses me... What do you think would happen if i ran the 60L tank without a skimmer and just did water changes every week? I am SERIOUSLY thinking about moving over to the smaller tank now........ I dont have the $$$$$ to upgrade the skimmer right now, so it is not an option.... !!!!!!!!!
  2. Nice clear photos!! Well done, you have some nice fish there. EDIT: That was my 1000th Post!! (do you feel special!! lol)
  3. Yea i am constantly adjusting it and changing it to different settings.... I can get it running pretty good, but sometimes it just randomly changes. I dont do anything to the tank to change the water.... If i do change over to the small tank, then yea you can have it back
  4. Ah? Lol sorta got it, fair points... Im thinking of going with the smaller, not so technical tank for the moment. Something sorta like this, just a small nano tank, with not all the complicated equiptment.... Click her for pic (Im dreaming again) I just dont realy understand all the complicated stuff yet, like the works of a skimmer. I understand that the skimmer i have is not the best, which probably does not help the situation. I will wait for some more peoples views on this before i go changing things over, but im pretty keen to go with the true nano
  5. ???????? any opinions?? I dont realy have the skimmer running very well.... I just cant get it to stay constant. I have it going perfect one day, then over night, the cup fills up and eventualy overflows.... So then i fluff around with the skimmer even more, and get it going pretty good again, then it happens again.... I am contemplating moving all of the rock, plus half of the water, over to a spare 30L tank i have, and ditching the skimmer, and having, IMO, a 'real' nano, just HOB filter for carbon, phos remover etc. Powerhead for water movement, and a heater. Lots of live rock and lots of water changes (30-40% a week) will keep the water 'healthy' Opinions.....?
  6. Haha sweet as, it was worth the try.... Talk about your mushys and zoas spreading is good though, you may have to sell me some frags.....  Sorry, im getting off track... Rogan
  7. I am leaving the 'camp' i will be on, driving an hour back to the meeting, then driving an hour back to the 'camp' Haha i dont wana miss this (or the 'camp') Will be good to catch up and meet new peoples!
  8. Looks good skippy. Got any live rock spare now that you can sell me
  9. You mean is it easy? Not realy, lol. I have been looking for a while and cant seem to find one.... Im after 8000K now as it looks better.... (anybody got an 8000 K 150W DE bulb 4 sale )
  10. 6500 Kelvin is usualy the reccomended rating for plants, and is a very white bulb. 8000 is best for the look of the plants thought so if you can get them, get somewhere between 6000-8000 HTH
  11. What on earth is it? (sorry, im quite new to all this stuf, im sure others want to know but dont want to ask  ) Looks freaky
  12. That sounds like a not too bad stocking list, but as you said, add them VERY slowly.... May be a little bit too much for a 100L tank.?? but depending on filtration and water changes they should be fine.. Yes panda corys are available quite often in petshops, they are my favourite cory Good luck
  13. Below is most of an email sharon and paul sent out to all club members regarding the meeting. I have edited it so you get all the necessary info of whats going to happen.... Hi Guys, This is what's organised so far. Venue is at city church tauranga, 252 otumoetai road. There are two halls, we're in the smaller one, furthest from the road. We have a projector, laptop, sound system, etc. Jane is bringing some orange juice. There are tea and coffee facilities available, and indeed an entire kitchen should we require it. The plan is to get started at 3pm with doors open around 2.30, and sort out a dinner of pizzas later on, asking for $5 a head from people who would like to join in. A gold coin donation will be taken at the door, to help with peter's costs Sharon and paul have donated this months raffle prize. So far we have a 150w heater, 500l/h aqua one filter, digital thermometer, and probably some food. If anybody else would like to donate something, tickets at $1 each, cos it's probably worth maybe $80-$100 as it sits now. Should be a good fundraiser for the club. Sharn, a big Thank You, it's your efforts that got the ball rolling in the first place. If you hadn't put the time in then, we wouldn't be where we are now. If anybody can think of anything else we need to do, or has any comments or suggestions, sing out. This is a great opportunity for the club to expand it's presence in the BOP and get more fishy people along. Look forward to seeing you all there.
  14. Yea looks cool but as caryl said, the whole setup pics!!! Oh and BTW... i like your trademe auction...
  15. Thats ALOT of fish for that tank, expecialy since its only been going for a week. Did you use cycled filter media?? or is it all new??
  16. I would say that yes they would be sweet. Dimebag on the forums has hoplos with his discus i think (i THINK they are hoplos) HTH
  17. Dont want to go too off topic but when i see a dead fish in a shop tank, I ALWAYS tell a staff member ASAP, and wait for them to remove it. Decaying fish in a tank can quickly kill other fsh, or make them sick, then an un-expecting customer comes along and buys the fish, and has to go through fixing it. My advice is, if you ever see a dead (or dying, or sick) fish in a shop tank with other fish, TELL ONE OF THE STAF MEMBERS, and ask them to remove it if it is dead, or suggest they put a sick/dying fish in a quarantine tank by itself so as to not affect other fish. Simple little things like this can help the hobby so so much.... Well done Ktttk on getting a pair of these wicked fish. Hope you can breed them and get them into many tanks all over the country!!!
  18. ohk, first of all, did you do what your local fish shop told you to do when starting a tank?? because it sounds like it... that is a bad way to start a tank in my opinion... The water will take a couple weeks to cycle, and during that process, there is a high chance the fish will die from the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate spikes, which all happen during the cycling process.... There are two ways to do a cycle.... The way you are going to do it, is to put a few 'hardy' fish in the tank and hope they survive whilst the cycle happens... i think this is the wrong way to do it as the fish get very stressed, and more often then not, die from the poisoning... The other way (in my opinion, the best) is to do a fishless cycle.... You put the water in the tank, heat it up, filter on etc. and then every night just feed the tank with flakes, as if you had 4 or so small fish in there... the food will start the ammonia spike off, which in turn will get the nitrites and nitrates going, You then SLOWLY add a few fish at a time after a week or two, and slowly build up the biological filtration. You can speed either of these processes up by using allready 'seeded' filter media, or even gravel from an already setup tank. I hope your poor little neons will survive the cycle, but being a 200L tank and only being 10 small neons, they *should* be alright, BUT, they may break out in a stress related disease such as whitespot, which for a beginner (you may not be a beginner, i dont know) is a very hard thing to have to fix.... Unfortunately, most fish stores these days dont give very good advice, they only try to sell you things so they get more $$ (not all fish stores are like this, but you will find ALOT are) This is why we have this awesome site with talented aquarists who are willing to help people out. HTH Rogan
  19. Most of yours are breeding tanks anyway aye coleman?? therefore they will mostly be barebottom?? with nothing special like nice plants etc.... It wont be toooo hard with just BB... but imagine moving 35 fully stocked, setup tanks, with substrate, plants, ornaments etc...... have fun
  20. Crypts are re-known for melting away when moved... Just leave them, they will eventualy come back to life and then they will be AWESOME!!
