  1. sweet thats how i had it... im guna have a fiddle around soon so will see if i can get it goin....
  2. venturi cap is off and pipe is connected to pump. there is sort of a swirl inside but not alot.... water level is about 2 cm down from the top, cant see how this can make a difference though... I will have a good play around in the morning and should be able to get it going... Another thing that could be wrong.... How is tha pipe in the middle supposed to go?? it has the black seal in one end and just nothing on the other. you sent it with it inside it so it is still in there. what does that do?......
  3. thanks for that info wasp. i might buy that test kit soon.... and i will definately get some pics of the skimmer aswell... Shaneo... i must admit, the longest i have had it on would of been about 10 minutes, but that was on and then off about 50 trillion times, emptying the cup.... I know that i need to empty the cup heaps but not this much... it fills up sooo fast that i dont think it settling in will ever stop it... i think i might have to just fiddle with the cup height and the amount of air etc....
  4. hmmmmmmmm yea i thought the air flow wasnt sufficient so put an air pump on it but it didnt change much... I probably just have it wrong somehow... I will try again in the morning...
  5. yea, i cant wait to get through the cycle and put some mushys in  BUT, i will be patient and do it when i can, dont want to do it too soon and kill anything.... I tested my freshwater tanks with my freshwater master test kit just before and realise that the nitrite test kit can also be used for saltwater so i gave the tank a quick test and it came up with nitrites of 2ppm.... I think this means that i am around halfway through the cycle..?? Am i right to think that the ammonia spikes, then the nitrite spikes them the nitrate spikes and then it is about done?? i think that is what i read, but cant realy remember and cant be bothered reading ATM  I just need to get the F$%&*# skimmer going next, it just wont work!! i know i have to let it settle in and build up crap but i cant see that ever happening. The water just flows straight over the top of the cone into the cup, and the cup is full within 10 seconds, i am thinking of maybe trying it with a smaller pump for a while, until i somehow figure something out... Another thing i tried is putting a small airpump blowing into the venturi to get some more air into it as it seems that there isnt enough air flowing in.... That plan didnt change anything The pump that came with it is a 1100 LPH pump so might try find a 700-800 LPH pump and see what happens...... EDIT: i need to get some test kits for the tank so i am thinking of buying this... good idea?? EDIT AGAIN: oh, and pics will definately be here by monday night, if not earlier
  6. coming along well, that tank is awesome!! Just one question, If you dont mind telling, aprox how much did the tank cost to make?? (not incl. stand) Just if you dont mind..... I like tanks that have discus with aros, i think they are cool
  7.  Good ol' guppys aye......
  8. thanks for that man, might go there tomorrow sometime and get supplies 8)
  9. just drill it bro, will save so much hassle in the long run... good to hear your turning to the darkside
  10. Good to hear steve, updated pics are always good aswell  I was just wondering... What kind of pipe is that black pipe that connects the pump to the SCWD etc. and also, where did you get it? Im wanting something similiar for my tank so i can put the pump down in behind rock where it wont be seen as easy, and then having the pipe connected to it to bring the water out to a better place..... Any ideas of what kind of pipe would be best??
  11. rock is starting to turn a little bit brown in places which im guessing is just diatoms.. I bought a little bit of coral sand today and chucked it in the tank, looks quite nice. I also got my 1kg of carbon i bought from petplanet (Thanks Petplanet )today, so will put some in a stocking in the HOB filter in a sec, just to keep it clean & clear (and under control  ) Will try get some pics ASAP
  12. ok, first problem... you have 30 watts of lighting over a 165 litre tank.... 80 watts woul be a good mark to start with (giving 0.5 Watts per litre) holes in leaves means you have a deficiency of some sort or nutrient... i cant remember what nutrient that is exactly but someone will be able to tell you.....
  13. Youll have to fight to get into it i warn you now, i cant remember how many people have been summoned to the corner  Jokes aside, i am learning (well trying at least) from this thread as i have just started my first ever marine tank... Dont think i will be needing a Uv unit on my tank thought, being only 60 Litres
  14. baby convicts  Sorry had to say it. I know that you mean black ghost knife when you say BGK but others may not so you may want to change it?? Have you tried bloodworms or whiteworms??? Just a guess as i dont have one myself.........
  15. LOL alan!! Yea, keep that solvent away from kids etc. as that stuff is POTENT!! i have a pottle of it in the garage, and i can tell you, if you dont use it in a VERY well ventilated area, you have a mean headache afterwards!!!! But i agree with cracker, if its something to do with saltwater, you would get more replys in the saltwater section Glad you got the help you needed
  16. I beleive it is a sign of high light which is a good thing. Got any pics of your tank at all?
  17. if the sand was white it would be better IMO but normal sand looks like S%#@
  18. sweet thanks. That sand looks nice... i might need to get some
  19. Hey man nice looking tank. What is that sand you have in there??
  20. nah no fish or anything.... The dead rock is in there....
  21. i have a VERY nice blue male with big finnage.... I have never seen a black one before but it would be a cool fish....
  22. i feed novo-bits and quality flake every night in my big planted tank and small planted tank. I feed a slice of cucumber to my BN breeding tank everynow and again with novo bits every now and again aswell. I feed bloodworms as a treat every few days. I have quality marine flake for my marine tank but dont have fish in it yet so dont feed it  I also feed whiteworms once every couple weeks as an extra special treat. Its interesting how most people feed their plecos/BN etc. pleco chips.... I have a pottle of them that i have used a few times but it never gets eaten. i hardly ever feed my BN now unless i am conditioning them for breeding. they get all the novo-bits that fall to the bottom of the tank..... but as a treat i use shrimp pellets every now and again for them.. but the corys usually get that before the BN come out at night
  23. Right, i have 3.5 KG of live rock in the tank, and 2 KG of 'dead' rock waiting to be put in the tank. So far So Good I will try get some pictures up in a couple days....
