  1. Yea im with Barrie. Yes they should get along fine with those fish, but they do prefer much lower temps (ie 22-24 as barrie stated) Setup another tank for the killies. They will be breeding in no time, and they are not necesarily hard to raise. Oh and if you do get killies, It would awesome if you joined the NZ Killifish association! You can get cheap eggs and/or fish from many of the members. Feel free to PM me or Barrie or someone else who is in the NZKA for more details!
  2. Yep definately. The ones from Pupuke probably came from Ronnie originally anyway so they will of much better quality than anything on trademe......
  3. LOL i went on the lookout for a syringe and needle when i had aiptasia but didnt succeed. Go to the vets and see if you can get one off them, farmers usually use them to inject whatever they inject into cows etc. I know my Dad has/had some.....
  4. Be more specific then 'Heaps of lighting'. Red plants need much more light than green plants to thrive and stay read.....
  5. What glass thickness is Evil_elmos tank? His is 6x3x2 isnt it? id say 12m for a 5x3x2 would be sufficient with good bracing
  6. Sweet as. I think i remember in another thread you said you had a pair or trio of Nothobranchius Korthausae yellow? Are you a member of the NZ killifish association? If you arent and would like to join (which i would highly reccomend as its a great club) feel free to PM me and i can give you some details as to who to contact. Good luck with the Killies BTW, and if you want more theres always Stu in wellington that has heaps and im sure he could help you out
  7. Nah i wouldnt put any salt into killie tanks for general everyday living. they dont need it and ive never heard that they appreciate it... I would only use tonic salt as a medication if at all...... Killies will be fine on straight water if you get what i mean
  8. Have you left the parents in with the Eggs? Are they in a tank by themselves? You dont want the air bubbles touching the eggs at all, just close-ish enough to provide a small amount of water movement. If the parents are still in the tank with the eggs they will provide water movement by swishing their fins back and forth, and will also pick off the fungussed eggs so meth blue isn't necessarily needed.
  9. Carbon doesn't help algae, green water or driftwood tannins...... From my experience anywho I dont use it. Only to remove Meds as stated but i havent medicated a tank in ages...... Wait, i did the other night. Ohk, i have but before that not in years
  10. Lots of food and lots of water changes. Hopefully the other one will survive. Sorry to hear of your loss
  11. Ryan you are tad wrong there. External filter have NO head height operating on them at all, because the water enters and exits at the same height (tank water level) So the pressure pushing the water down the tube (the siphon) is pushing it up the other side aswell. However, if you had a sump setup and used an external filter to suck the water from the sump, and blow it out in the tank above, you would get a very slow rate as that is not what a filter of that type is designed for. The filter will die prematurely too. A 1200LPH filter is just that. If you hook it up to your tank, WITH NO MEDIA OR TRAYS it will pump 1200LPH of water (or there abouts). Once you put the media into the trays and into the canister, the flow rate significantly drops. HTH
  12. You can buy an aqua one CF1200 or a Jebao 304 for around $120 new off trademe so why pay that much second hand?.....
  13. The Elusive Layton! Source:http://www.stuff.co.nz/4197231a28.html
  14. I dont feed the krib fry at all i just feed the parents as normal and dont vaccuum the bottom as often. The parents will take the fry out on little 'feeding ventures' every now and again and the fry will pick away at the leftovers whilst the parents guard them.... Ive had great success with fry like this, but im sure if you fed BBS you could get healthier, and faster growing fry....
  15. Hasn't Layton always used tap water?
  16. Any fish will be Sh*t scared for at least a week when you move them from one environment to another. Just give them time to settle in before doing anything!
  17. I think you should use the scientific names because common names suck. Especially for africans because so many of them are very similiar or are hybrids and people just call them whatever they want, but it could be one 10 different species in reality....
  18. Yea it was! Got it filled last night, slowly raised the water level over a couple hours to let it settle slowly and its beaut this morning so im gunna take all the water back out of it today and put the gravel etc in and we will be underway
  19. I dont think rubber bands would have had any effect on the tank. Ive had rubber bands in my tanks for long periods of times before and everythings been sweet....
  20. FIXED! :bounce: :bounce: Took the tank off and tested everything for flat. Bottom of tank was perfect (as you'd expect) top of stand was perfect.... WTF??!?!?! Put a different piece of polystyrene on (not the stuff i got with the tank) and vuila! Sits PERFECT now..... Now i gotta fill it up and hope nothing goes Bang
  21. Bottom of tank is straight yes. Im not sure if the frame is straight or not. Used to have a 250L tank on it using the same piece of wood and it was sweet.... Im thinking off just transferring it to another stand, and using this one for my breeding tanks (lots of smaller tanks = sweet as)
  22. Yea could be an idea, but nah would need to be drilled etc. Easier to just stick with my canister filter.... Anyway, tank is in place! BUT Next problem.... There is a hump in the middle of the stand, and it drops by a fair amount at each end.... enough that i can tip the tank back and forth very easily and it will rock.... Two things i could do. 1, get a new piece of ply to go on top cos this ones obviously swollen in the middle or 2, get some of that expanding foam and spray it under each end, let it expand, cut off the excess and then fill er up.... I know someone on here did it a little while ago when their concrete pad was off a little bit and it worked sweet. theirs was only a sump tank though..... idea's?
