  1. I think the 'tube' you are talking about in the other thread is the Oviposter(sp?). The breeding tube. the females have one which they lay the eggs out of, and the males eject their sperm out of theirs. if the females pop theirs out you will see the shape difference between M & F. They usually pop them out when they want to breed, or for fighters in the presence of the opposite sex..... EDIT: Just had a look at the picture (i didnt realy look before, just read what you said) and noticed that its not the oviposter, its actually something coming out, maybe as adodge said a tumor or rupture of some sort. never seen anything like it. hope he gets better!
  2. Wheres the smiley thing that says "this thread is useless without pics"
  3. I think she means its 5 months old... i think i remember that from the other thread....
  4. Looking for to it Caryl! thankyou so much for all your hard work!!
  5. Just leave the poor fish alone and let him get used to his surrounding. Dont try to make him move and try to feed him all the time etc. If hes hungry he will eat. It will help him if the tank is not very brightly lit either. He will still be stressed so give him time HTH
  6. Well it seems the breeding tanks are working! My Korthausae yellow killies are spawning hard out, and loving the live food and daily water changes, and i have just found that my Kribs have spawned aswell! The kribs are in a 200 x 300 x 300 part of a divided tank and they were only in there for the meantime whilst i found another tank to put them in but it seems they like the daily water changes because i just found a huge spawn in their pot. Im not sure if it was anything to do with the adition of another male krib in the tank next door to them that would have set them off but they seem to have liked something! Fuzzy pic but you can see some of the eggs and mum In one of the other 200 x 300 x 300 divisions my trio of bronze corys spawned aswell but their eggs fungused so i put a male krib in (as i said) to eat all the fungused eggs, and it was also just somewhere to hold him

    just got

Do you find that you have a two or three degree temp difference between the two sides barrie? Looks good BTW
  8. Just stating that my Bichir loves shrimp pellets. i always chuck two or three into the tank and he goes and hunts them out and takes them 'out back' to swallow them whole! He also digs through the sand after colourbits when hes bored too
  9. Yea i agree with ira and cookie, not enough posting going on in here anymore to justify splitting it up....
  10. Yea hoplos rule! i have two in with my firemouths, uarus, bichir etc and they are soooo energetic. Always scooting up and down, round and round, playing round with each other and even playing with the bichir  I wanna get more!

    New Tank

im confused.... i call it the dark side, the dark side costs too much
  12. Yep read your other post, going great! Bracing will be the main part yea. Id put some 2 x 2 bracing everywhere, should be enough, but may need some bigger ones from side to side underneath the centre of each shelf or something? keep us updated with heaps more pics!
  13. Nope don't think anyone in NZ has it unfortunately
  14. Yea polyurethane is just a sealant, like water proof paint i guess but you can water it down to a very runny solution. Looking good BTW, will be sweet once its all up and running!! you'll be pumping out the babys

    New Tank

Candy its good to hear that your turning to the dark side! Have fun
  16. But i reckon it would have happened when the brace broke. the tank was full at the time so it would have had heaps of bend in it when it went, and it was sitting like that for a minute or so whilst i got the clamp from the garage and pulled it back together again so im guessing it must have started it then....
  17. Thanks guys. The clamp is actually still on the top of the tank  I just left it there and was going to for a little while to realy make sure it was cured properly. I had a look at the back pane last night once i got it empty and noticed that it is bulging too, so it looks like a complete re-build is in order... Dang! I will definately brace not only the front but the entire bottom if i do re-build, just to be B%&*#y sure Dunno how old the tank is cos i bought it second hand, and ive had it for a few years now i think..... Thanks for the help guys!
  18. Found a big bulge in the seam in my 250L tank this evening, and have just finished moving all the fish out and emptying the whole tank and taking out sand and stones.... What a mission.... A couple weeks ago i snapped the centre brace on it when it was full and i quickly put an F Clamp accross it and siliconed it all up again and it was sweet, but today i just randomly felt the front seam accross the bottom of the tank (silicone bead connecting front to bottom) and noticed that it was bulging out about 5mm in the middle.... Tank is 10mm glass BTW. It was flush at each end. The whole silicone bead had pushed right out, very freaky, i got to work straight away and had water syphoning out the window within a minute  Anyway, im not exactly sure what im gunna do. I want to put a strip along the front (like a euro brace strip accross the bottom) but i probably need to take the whole front off and re-do the seams to get it all flush again..... Would that be alright? I will try to get some pics of it..... Heres a pic i drew in paint... i know, im talented... The big black strip is the front pane, and the whole pic is looking up from the bottom of the tank.... Oh and sorry for the big ramble, im not very happy atm Ideas please???
  19. As long as they cant fit in any of the other fishes mouths, then they should be sweet
  20. Get angels, some angels eat neons, some dont. they only do it once they get BIG so just buy some small ones and buy the time they are full grown you'll have a fishroom and you will be able to put them where ever you want
  21. ohk at 900 long, one halide could work. Antwan had a 150W halide over his 3 footer and it was a stunning tank. i think i remember him saying that the plants on the ends would grow inwards a little bit to get to the light but other than that its not too bad.... heres some pics of how it used to be.... hope he doesnt mind HTH
  22. Yep, and you dont need to buy liquid bacteria.... it does nothing... absolute waste of money....
  23. Ohk, yer after a bit of reading i dont realy think i could get away with a pair... might try to get ten or so soon, otherwise i might get 5 or 6 and give it a go.... Im Hooked!!!!!
