  1. You never cease to make me laugh Caryl
  2. Nah 1200 would be fine, you can easily face the spray bar toward the back or something if its too much flow for the fish/plants. Plus you always have that option of using it on a bigger tank later on
  3. Ended up buying a Jebao 304 (note JEBAO not JEBO) and it has been beautiful ever since. It is sitting dry at the moment, as it is in between tanks. Id reccomend one too anyone, but if i were to get another canister id probably go for Aqua one next....
  4. I read somewhere that you can rub your finger accross their nose and if its rough its a male, and if its smooth its a female. Thats from pretty much any age. P.S. i might have got the Male/Female parts around the wrong way...
  5. Ive never kept snakeskin gourami, nor had any interest in them, but judging from sizes (fish compared to tank) id tend to say no.

  7. Tis' to do with temperature. Dunno where the line between M & F is, but all mine are Fems
  8. I doubt that in any normal tank the water would be any different from top to bottom. Unless of course you had a tank with no circulation or something, but im sure it would still be the same because of convection currents if the tank is heated, and general movement around the tank.
  9. There is no known cure for MTS, BUT, you can temporarily weaken the disease by buying yet another tank. Ive had to weaken mine about 15 times and it still aint fixed... i think i have it for life
  10. Yea thats why im getting rid of my breeders....
  11. Yep, agree with everyone else. hard to stop once they start! I have 2 pairs at the moment (which are going next week sometime hopefully!) and they just pump out the babys like nothing ive ever seen! i used to have a trio of Very big fish, but even they didnt pump out as many as i have at the moment! they are all VERY small still though, and ive made no effort to save them, but there isnt realy anything in their tanks that will eat them.... Get a male and female, and wait. they WILL eventually breed
  12. not 100% sure yet, but i will steel some noodles out of my canister filter when i take it apart next (tomorrow or the next day most probably), and will put some filter wool in, and maybe some course sponge or something.... No progress today, was working
  13. Just finished glueing it up... no pics this time... it looks no different, other than some messy siliconing here and there. I didnt end up plugging the T and adding holes. couldnt be stuffed and it wouldnt have made much of a different anywho. the way it is now, the water will get pushed to each side and run around the side of the container, making its way up, so im hoping its gunna end up having a twirling effect in the canister. I though of a genius plan to see the flow through it too; set it up running through a bowl or similiar, then add pottasium permanganate (or something else that will colour the water fairly fast) to the bowl, and watch it get sucked into the inlet and see what happens... even if it's crap it will still look cool If the weather is no good tomorrow, then ill get some mesh, and media, and get it up and running for the first trial run..... if the weathers good, then no progress will be made

  15. and neons die 3 times faster....
  16. I just drilled a couple holes in the lid of mine and connected the pump (still need to wire the plug in though) and then made the connection at the bottom for the water to go in. I just need to silicon all the joins now to make sure, then get some mesh (i think i have some somewhere) and put it at the bottom above the 'spraybar' type thing i have in it to keep the media up. Also gotta get some hose to go from the canister to the tank.... that black stuff doesnt realy bend so it isnt the best to use for it.... No pics cos i dont have the camera today EDIT: used the web cam top Looking into the canister whole thing
  17. attach the filter to the back of the tank, and point it toward the front glass... it should diffuse it a bit more.... looking good btw
  18. The right angle ones? I have some hose clamps that i was gunna put on them, but i also have plan b if they dont work
  19. Yea im gunna put the pump inside it connected to the lid, and have some mesh between the media and pump to keep anything from getting sucked in. That black pipe i bought ages ago from mitre 10 mega... got 30 metres of it for like $15. I found this one aswell, which looks much better than the first one, very similiar design though http://www.myfishtank.net/forum/do-your ... ilter.html Im gunna do mine similiar to that, by having the pump in the lid like that, and im also gunna cut the power cord, thread it through a small hole (with some silicon to make sure) then wire it back onto the plug... Easier then trying to make it come out the side or something. This is going to be a project that im gunna do right, as i have 2 weeks of holidays to get it right
  20. Ive been mucking round this avo trying to find some bits and pieces to make one, but couldnt find anything suitable to use as the canister, so took a trip to the warehouse and found a perfect container for $5 This is the pump im gunna use, says it does 150-300 lph (you can turn the nozzle too adjust it) And heres a mock layout of sorta what im gunna do I will keep updating with pics (im a pic maniac )
  21. Mark that could be an insane setup! You have one silver, go get another and get them breeding! yeeeeehaaaaaaa
  22. how long will you need to leave the mother with the fry? As long as you want i guess.... well, within reason of course. They will need her in the first week or so after they have been layed to keep the water moving around them etc, but after that they should be fine without her, as long as theres nothing else in the tank that can eat them. If there are other fish in the tank that will eat them you will need to leave her with them to protect them from predators, until they can fend for themselves.....
