  1. Hi Dennis. It sounds like a lack of oxygen. Maybe all the extra light caused an algae bloom and it's stripping the oxygen from the water?? Whatever the cause I suggest you get some extra surface movement, either by having the inlet just above the water level to break the surface or by adding an airstone which will achieve the same thing.

    UV STERILIZERS

I've heard the same thing. I know of an LFS that is reluctant to buy fish from UV sterilized tanks.

Is it a Damselfish? The 'Dusky Farmerfish' in particular which farms a species of red algae, Polysiphonia?
  7. Just a little spillage here too.
  8. Can you get a pic? The best thing you can do right now without any kind of diagnosis is to keep the water clean. Salt can help with a number of things and won't do any harm. A search of this site will give you the dosage, I can't remember right now.
  9. Hi Joutei. How big is big? Whitespot looks like the fish has grains of salt on it. Search 'Whitespot' on this site or Google it, there's heaps of info available.
  10. Empties don't count. If it doesn't have fish in it it's just a glass box  I'm doing my best to control my MTS. I've recently reduced numbers and have it down to 6.
  11. Hi Joshlikesfish. Would something like this do the trick for you? http://www.stowers.co.nz/products/6378PTCL.html
  12. Ditto. Jagers are totally reliable and well worth the extra $ for peace of mind.
  13. Hi oneeyedfrog. How many eggs/fry were in the first successful batch and how many were in the unsuccessful ones? Did the floating container have any biological filtration or were you relying on water changes to remove toxins? If the unsuccessful batch was significantly larger than the successful one perhaps the volume of water in your floating container was too small and became toxic with ammonia quicker than when you had a smaller population in there.
  14. Welcome aboard Black Sabbath. I don't condition the water, I use it straight from the tap.
