I had a female severum who picked up a small bit of wood and managed to get it stuck sideways. I used a hook remover to dislodge it and get it out. If a fish could ever look relieved she did.

I have just got back from a trip away for a week, what was a little that I thought to myself I would deal with when I came home was a soupy oily mess when I walked in the door. I will be scrounging for plants as everything is going to be boiled and sterilised out of that tank. I have managed to save some and have discovered that a dilute solution of janola totally destroys riccia.

It me thinking of using a spa pump and filter. Works out to about $20 a month leaving the pump on 24/7. With the inline heater on a large tank thats not all that significant. We have been calculating everything recently trying to understand why our power bill is $400 a month.

no I do know of lakes which get up to 22 and they are in there quite happily, too much heat and especially too much light are a big issue, there has been a theory bandied by biologists that these little guys can suffer from light shock resulting in death.

hehe, let me know when. I am doing a water change at the moment so she will most likely sulk. They do have personalities and they love company doesnt matter on the type. Although they are large, they are great to keep and worth the effort. I wouldnt mind getting another one, but things are up in the air as to where we will be over the next few years.

SJ you are welcome to look at my setup if you want. You can feed them anything, the kids tease mine with the pet rat, she loves small children, cats, insects, lettuce, cat biscuits, fresh krill. You can pretty much feed them anything. I also have a 100l bin with lid which is good for transporting.

ok this is blind advice first of all stop feeding them see what happens introduce food slowly and mess with the tank as little as possible do a 20% water change look for any rotting fish or plants and remove them. dont use deoderant fly spray or anything aerosol anywhere near the tank Same on the horse questions I can train a horse to do just about anything but I cant train my plecos

careful when handling formalin at this time of year as well, high humidity and a splash of formalin in a small area is a nasty experience. The boiling point is very low and the vapour can be nasty on your lungs and eyes, it reacts like ammonia. Its also used frequently for drying out seedy toe in conjunction with stockholm tar on horses and cows.

I use a 300 ml coke bottle with 2 holes drilled in the lid, slightly smaller than the air hose so it creates a pressurised seal. The hosing going into the tank for CO2 is at the top and the one from the bottle is at the bottom, vice versa for air. It doesnt cause any pressure problems. Those little valves are horrible things. I think it was ballistic who was having a good look at it with a chuckle.

I shop at the one with the dirty tank, at least there he doesnt try and give you dodgy advice and rip you off as I have found at the Pet house.

I half drained it, and hadnt added water to it, last night was bitterly cold. I let the dog out around midnight and it was similar to ice cream headache all over the body.

last night I was doing a water change on the swimming pool and planned to fill it today - the pool has had goldfish in it growing out. It was about 50cm deep and unfortunately during the night I lost the lot, I can only put it down to cold as they are all on the bottom and look as though they just went to sleep. Looks like it wasnt deep enough for them to escape the cold.
