    Golden Rams!

Its the curse I tell you.. lol Sorry that doesn't help, but yeah that is what happened to all my blue/gold rams and I still have no idea what happened, I even treated them with every drug I could think of (obviously not at once) to try and alleviate it. Tried different water, tried daily water changes nothing worked and just lost every blue/gold ram I have ever tried.
  2. Gutted Caryl These things do hit all of us at times! I hope you manage to get on top of it, salt and temp will knock it for a 6!
  3. I only had it affect rams when I had it hit mine. But you would probably want to isolate him so that you can attempt to treat him with something..
  4. Gutted I have no idea what they are but some of the many rams I have tried with had things like that on their heads before they started the downwards spiral to death.. I think it could be some sort of HITH/spiral nucleus type thing.

    is it a she?

Hard to tell with those pics being so small.. But even the top pic looks like the fish is very colourful in the absence of a better pic I would say that is a male as well..

lol don't give in Adrienne, you have the same curse I have with the rams and is not worth wasting anymore money on them!
  7. Prazi and aviverm wont harm your filter, metro might be it is supposed to be for anaerobic bacteria (ie that that doesn't live in an oxygenated area) so at a guess even that should be fine?
  8. Furan2 when you suspect an internal parasite? Probably not a good idea.. You need to go down the metro/prazi/levamisole route.
  9. Awesome pics they are looking good.. I love the confidence too, good luck with raising them, I managed to artificially hatch a batch or 2 when I had some but had no luck raising the fry, think my water was all wrong or something like that..
  10. 4tsb will do absolutely nothing, TBH I would stick a handful in a 80L tank on day one. If no improvement in 2 days then I stick in another half a handful.. It has been a long time since I have whitespot but that worked last time..
  11. You could try and stick another female in there.. I would probably hold fire until you can afford a bigger tank or get rid of the bigger ones and add juvvies as firenz has suggested. I have successfully kept fish that shouldn't be kept in 2ft tanks before but the rocks were stacked to the top of the tank from the front to the back. If it is only a short time till you can get a bigger tank and the female isn't getting damaged it might be ok to keep them and wait.
  12. Males will chase females around almost constantly attempting to breed. It is usually when the female stops being chased that they actually breed, you will notice her fattening up and breeding tubes starting to drop etc when she is ready. After they have bred the male continues to keep chasing her which usually results in her spitting her fry unless the tank is big enough and there are plenty of hiding places and multiple females in the tank. Usually people keep african cichlids in harems of 1m to 2-3+ females to lesson the stress on individual females as the males constant harassing can lead them to be harassed to death. I would be worried about this with you only have a pair, and also worried about the tank size you have them in it is pretty small.
  13. Why not just drill the tanks and put an overflow type water change system (it can be done costing stuff all), run the pipe outside and to your (hopefully nearby) storm water drain from your roof..
  14. Give them some nicer caves than that if you want them to breed, those ones are pretty open, try half burying some and leaving small openings etc.. But the male is looking awesome!
  15. Ditto I run a dehumidifier in my fishroom the air coming out of it is warm and it helps dry out all the little spills and stuff

Look at the dorsal fin - are the first few rays raised? Tail/anal fin - is it square or rounded? Females tend to be smaller (slow down from around 2-3cm long and end up being half the size of males by around 5-6cm long). And females also tend to have a cross hatching type pattern on their sides.. Unfortunately with most cichlids you do get "sleeper" males that have always been kept in with more dominant males and take on some female and some male characteristics until they get a chance to be dominant.
  17. Gutted it really sucks when that happens, it is a shame he didn't get number plates or anything of the car.. As you say at least he was ok and at least you had insurance. On the insurance front, surely you can let them know it wasn't your fault and also point out you guys do pay quite alot of insurance through them (assumption based on 6 vehicles you have insured).. Are you sure you don't have no claims for life as a few companies have gone to that now?
  18. Just give it a go and see what happens
  19. Me Although I doubt that many in the club will actually see your post and post...
  20. Is he skinny or fat? Any white stringy poos? Is his breathing faster? And is his head filled out or pinced? Any holes forming in his head? What are his tank mates and size tank etc?
  21. Regardless of how many litres the heater is rated to, how many watts is it?
  22. I would just get a terracotta pot I am sure they fish won't be fussy, they will probably still breed on the side of the tank, the filter or the heater anyway..
  23. There is plenty of info on google and most lawyers will make a free first appointment to look at the case.. Children can contest but they have to have been dependants to get a better share, and if the deceased wrote a letter or something detailing why he had left money where he left it.. Alot of the time it comes down to the person having a right to leave their money wherever they want I would just goto a lawyer and have a chat, remember it can cost alot and nothing it guaranteed.
  24. If you are responsible enough to worry and pay good money to have it repaired then you are probably better than most tenants people will find.
  25. Yeah I would just do a call around and see what people are going to charge, and also how experienced they sound a few popped up when I let my fingers do the walking before that are reputable names for carpet locally..
