  1. It looks like he is running a business and getting out of fish why doesn't someone request that he either joins and advertises here or ask if it is ok to create a thread with his details so everyone can find them..
  2. He is looking awesome, I should really get off my bum and get some more NLS as the fish do seem to go well on it

  9. Nice pics, I only managed to get one good pic of mine too which was the POTM one I entered a few months back.. They do seem to breed really well once they get going
  10. I have the same strain of lithos but unfortunately only 1 female so if any have any of the big blaze females or fry let me know BTW as always nice looking fish and photos
  11. I was thinking exactly the same thing and wondering where they got to? Maybe they were just too sensitive and harder to breed that noone managed to get them going?
  12. No worries, I found it a very good article it is hard to find information like this specifically for treating fish sometimes.. Just take note of the treatment regime and dosage at the bottom
  13. lol I look at everything that can hold water as a potential tank.. There is another thread here.. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=43016

    venting??

I would give it a go if I was going to catch them or had a very good reason for it.. But probably not worth the effort of hauling a big tank down and chasing fish around to catch them stressing them out etc when you may not see an awful lot when they are that young.

    venting??

Probably borderline for being very easy to sex at those sizes but you can always give it a go, when I am transferring fish I always have a look at a few vents of fish that I know the sexes of to try and get an eye in for it but it is still pretty hit and miss.

Catch the fish give by their bum a GENTLE squeeze and look at the holes, females will have 1 big one small, males will have 2 small. If the fish are immature and have not bred it is very difficult to tell unless you are good at it, good luck How big are the fish?
  18. Awesome, good work! They are one that I want to try and breed one day, I think a school of hundreds of them would look awesome.. Good luck raising them. Lyndyloo I believe the females are fatter and the males skinnier and more streamlined.
  19. If you are running a 500L tank then just chuck some fish in and go for it, as long as you don't run a massive stocking level then the amount of waste they will produce will be very small.. What is your plan for stocking this tank? FX5 is a good choice for that sized tank I have one running on the same sized tank and it works really well. If your 120L tank is already established and going then why not just steal some media from that to kick start it? It wont take much to start it off, also you are going to one of the best places for fish keepers and fish shops in NZ so the odds of finding someone who can help you out with some media is very high just ask I am pretty sure you will receive
  20. I had the albino kois as well, even managed to breed a few, unfortunately when I went overseas they all died they are quite sensitive and they didn't cope with the lower maintenance and higher stocking levels in the tank at the time.
  21. Awesome work, really glad that you had someone else to call on, sometimes someone else with a level head is what is needed in situations like these when you are flopping around on the carpet with the fish.. Why did the tank come apart? Did you get it made or chuck it together yourself? Some big fans will help speed up the trying process beg/borrow/steal as many as you can from makes or fellow fish keepers and get the air moving.
  22. Yeah definately good to run a sponge filter, they fry will feed off the little bugs and stuff that grow as they become established. Looks like plenty of stuff for them to graze on in there anyway. The brown water is good, it is what they like so don't stress about trying to remove it, plenty of people try and make brown/black water tanks for their south american fish.
  23. They look like nice pics And the tank looks nice and natural..
  24. If you read through this section or use the search engine you will find some info on this, the next thread down is all about someone who had fry and is talking about raising them etc..
  25. Hi and welcome, glad to see you are sorted, cheers Zev
