  1. Awesome Gem, are these the ones you got off me? lol I might be keen to get some babies off you at some stage What sort of ratio did you end up with?
  2. Yeah ditto on the empresses Theres alot of people hanging out to get some of them. Tank looks awesome too and it will only get better as the fish colour up more
  3. I have bristlenoses in all my tanks and dont have problems with algae growing on stuff, I guess its a choice really bristlenoses tend to hide all day anyway
  4. do you have any algae eating fish in there?
  5. Thats cool Awesome lol wish I could get one
  6. Nice looking fish? Whats the story with the eel?
  7. Awesome pics as always conaquavict You seem to have a wide range of fish? How many tanks do you have?
  8. Something not scared to give them the confidence to come out Have used rainbows before.. Something ive wanted to try is gold barbs they get pretty big they're fast and hardy and cheap But I haven't tried them yet..
  9. When I had them in a mixed tank they were pretty shy I think its just their nature they just like to chill out around the rocks and not open water mine used to dart out to eat.. Maybe you could try some dither fish in with them in the smaller tank to try and bring them but like i said I think they're pretty shy good luck nothing worse than having fish you cant see

    Need some help

Sorry to hear that I hate loosing fish! I lost a female dragons blood a similair way fine at night then the next day dead.. Got another one recently and lost that one due to stresses in shipping! I was thinking it may have been bloat but its usually the later stages they stop swimming around and if he was eating last night no luck.. Hope everything else in your tanks alright and you can find another one if he was needed for breeding etc, I think I saw one for sale on trademe?

    Need some help

Is he eating or breathing any heavier than normal?
  12. lol cant say as ive been there and done that the same way but ive emptied a tank onto the carpet.. The spray bar fell out and had a couple of jets emptying out the back of the tank destroyed the tank stand and the carpet etc had to pull it all down and lift the carpet to dry it all out! I hope yours all dries out and everyones alright (and also that your better half doesn't hate your fish now) cuz my wife wasn't too impressed when that happened! Something about destroying our lives and it taking a week to dry out and us having no lounge while it was drying or something i wasn't really listening was trying to fix the stand and get it setup again
  13. I was over in aussie and took a photo of an article on the so called glow danio's that said they were GE'd to have a jellyfish gene in them and the aussie industry was applying for permission to get them into the country legally.. Ill find the cables and try and get the pic off my phone to upload it I presume these are the same thing..
  14. Yeah its going alright.. I just got back from 3 weeks in Aussie working. I only have 3 tanks now the big 5ft and a 3ft grow out and a cold water tank as well got sick of having so many tanks and with all the overseas trips ive got coming up its too much work for the wife lol Hows things with you guys going? Hows the new setup going?
  15. Yeah that display tank in the corner is quite nice seem to have a large number of big fish in there too.. I think its alot bigger than it seems though being a corner unit.
  16. We moved in December we used to live in Hobsonville, think we may have met you at some stage but unsure met alot of nice people up there.
  17. I have always said I was going to buy/make a net that was the whole width of my tank so that I could just seperate the fish off with it and then chase them around the divided bit with smaller nets.. Short of that use 2 of the biggest nets you have take all the rocks out and try and be patient I think I spend more hours trying to catch fish than actually enjoying them especially when you want to sell one out of a tank! There are a few instructions for fish catchers I haven't tried them and they will catch any or all fish so unsure how useful they will be.. Also have heard to try while fish are asleep but ive found they freak out and I was always worried about them damaging themselves on rocks etc. Might be something for you to try Good luck!
  18. Yeah they used to live down the road from us too we spent a bit of time there and got quite a few fish off them really nice guys I sure miss Auckland sometimes!
  19. Yeah Ken and Mark have some amazing fish Especially those Chilumba's I have a pair from the same parents that will end up in my display tank eventually too and hopefully be bred from too..
  20. Yeah ive got a heap of yellows and demasoni in my tank in my display tank Plus all sorts of other random stuff.. Whatever i like at the time.
  21. Just keep an eye on them they can be nasty yours might be different but just from what ive seen and heard.. And personally I dont think they are very colourful anyway but each to their own. This is a general guideline I found think your tanks around 60gal at a guess haven't worked it out most 4fts are around 55gal. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/c ... er_55g.php I would probably stick around 20-30 in as young juvvies they would need to be thinned out as the grow up and you would obviously have to have hiding places and filtration to match..
  22. Id watch the auratus, some people have had success with them but ive found them too nasty and just gave up on them.. Id say if you got rid of them you could stick some more fish in maybe some nice red zebra's would add some orange to your tank for something different.
  23. lol how many do you have in there? And what do you plan to do with it? If you stick heaps of fish in there they wont breed true or wont breed at all etc.. I have had alot of fish in a 4ft tank but that was only because my 5ft twice the size was damaged... Whats your current stocking list?
  24. I think its all just as bad as the rest.. If it killed the fish or was bad for them you would hope the breeders wouldn't do it.. As Alan pointed out alot of the other accepted methods can be just as bad, so yeah who knows you've got to get rid of the parasites and greeblies somehow.. Unfortunately some of them are just out for the money.
