  1. Id say the problem wouldn't be with cycling if you basically added the same fish and filter form your smaller tank into a bigger tank.. unless you did something to kill off the bacteria, I would also say maybe the neon's are the cause of the problem, did they exhibit any symptoms before dying? I to would isolate the angel maybe give him a salt bath or something like that who knows form the symptoms I cant tell whats is going on.. Seems a bit sudden for it to be a disease if they only got added on Sat.. Oh and merry crhristmas hope your fish pulls through.
  2. Welcome and merry Christmas MTS is a terrible thing most of us here have been bitten by the bug.. I have 17 tanks they're not even all full yet but im still always looking for more..
  3. Apparently they are fine in 650mls mounted on top of a speaker
  4. I strip all the fish I want to keep at 2 and a half weeks I find they don't get too run down that way and I lave them in the main tank until that stage means less hassle and stress on them if I take them out strip them and stick them back in the tank they don't have to fight to regain their position in the tank.. however taking the females out and letting them spit is a good method used by most people just have to feed the mother up again afterwards and rearrange rocks or introduce her at night.. As for how long to leave her with babies I never keep adults with babies so I have no idea others have reported success with keeping a heap of rocks and java moss in the tank and as the babies are spat they just cruise into the rocks and mum leaves them alone..
  5. They will stick to stuff until they're fully free swimming.. It is also best not to feed anything until they fully free swimming otherwise you risk fowling the tank and killing them.. There is no advantage in feeding them while they still have their egg sacks that is what is feeding them at the moment.
  6. Angels are probably too slow to be kept with yellows Not to mention the differences in water preferences..
  7. Advive is always good to get What did you want to use it for? If you wanted to do pretty much anything other than surf the internet I would advise trying to find one with a video card not video card shared with ram, you can get ones with 256 geforce cards built in makes it go soo much better, we got an NEC laptop have since found they are hunks of junk so would stay away from them, would also go with at least 2gb ram and as large a hdd as you can afford unless you want to go with a portable hdd which are cheap on trademe.. I think Dell do some good laptops online?
  8. Yellows will most likely only pick on each other and be fine in a 5ft tank.. And yeah if you have them in a standard peaceful community tank they may cause trouble but if you had a big enough tank and a few yellows they would probably just pick on each other.. Its like everything with fish though some strains or individual fish are just agro some people think its how they were brought up etc etc..
  9. Im going to make a 4 x 2 frame and clad it in recycled t and g rimu that owes me about $70 for 50-60 Lm off trademe
  10. Awesome Paul congrats on the babies I remember talking to Glenn and Karen ages ago and they were saying you kept buying females glad to hear its finally worked out.. Most male apisto's don't care for their babies they usually only defend the territory and the female can even get agro with him so theres no advantage to leaving him in if they're in their own tank and theres nothing for him to defend against.

A guy down your way on here (andrew129 I think is his username) made an awesome one and posted full diy instructions in the diy section maybe the sort of search thing on here would find it?
  13. hmm id have to disagree with that one! have seen some shockers handed out in them too..
  14. lol or just get there name goto maf and say that the petshop assistant was suggesting to people to release goldfish into the wild.. Mind you that would probably do more harm that good with maf and those of us that wouldn't do or say something so stupid, best just to approach the person or shop with it..
  15. Yup I think you need to visit someone with a sump setup and ask heaps of questions or google it for some pics or videos once you've seen it all going its easy to understand and setup
  16. Canister filters hate running at a headheight.. the outlet and inlet need to be around the same height essentially zero head height due to the siphon forces in the inlet pipe equaling the pressure of the water pushing down in the outlet pipe.. I hate tried to use canister filters to pump water around for water changes and had no luck..
  17. Crushed coral or argonite (I cant spell it) is awesome its what I use in my african tanks, however it is expensive alot easier to come by in Auckland where people use it in their marine tanks and you can pick it up when they pull tanks down or decide to go without sand.. Personally im kinda of sick of the look of the white sand I think when I rebuild my display tank im going to use all black sand and black rocks and make the fish stand out a bit better.. However when I first started out I loved the look of it, and im unsure how I will buffer if I pull it all out.. Someone was selling it cheap on trademe well cheaper than petshop prices anyway
  18. Pics of angel babies.. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f183/ ... ry0013.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f183/ ... ry0015.jpg IMG Tags removed... Pics too large. See NZ Website Section Bill. Mod.
  19. Yeah they're pretty prolific little guys When they're young I used to stick in film canisters and they loved breeding in them, when they get a bit older the males cant fit so well lol but I have terracotta pots for them..
  20. Red hump geos are mouth brooders Brasiliensis are not.. red hump geo's (Geophagus steindachneri) http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/bre ... _Hump.html A link has already been provided with breeding info for Brasiliensis
  21. Vege matter would be spirilina cooked peas or lettuce and cucumber as you suggested A varied diet is good for any fish provided they will actually eat it chuck all sorts in the tank, I don't feed red meat at all because its bad for them but shrimp and stuff is all good
