  1. Argonite would raise the ph too high.. If you wanted to raise it a little you could add a bit but im guessing you like the look of it and want to use it in your tank?
  2. Congrats I remember its been a huge mission for you..
  3. Oh and when I say 3ft I mean a descent sized one.. Not one of those poxy ones that is like 100L..
  4. Id say long term they would be happy in a 3ft.. And happier if you kept 1m to multiple females You could also keep a few other fish in a 3ft with them..
  5. Looks like he pushed a little hard and got a bit more than her bargained for.. I have never seen anything like that before.. Hope he comes right..
  6. Ah the joys of africans.. As you have done the main things to help out - rearranged the tank, fed, turned lights out etc the only other thing to try is to take out the offending fish and let her establish herself and settle before reintroducing them.. She is the biggest but she is probably scared half to death and being dumped in a new tank she hasn't got the balls to stand up to the others yet..
  7. Any of her mbuna are very likely to breed with the auratus.. I would say the blue melo's (that is what they were imported as and I am not aware of their scientific name) would be the most likely to cross breed as they're the same family and also known for being dominant and agro..
  8. I think its alot easier said than done I believe the dragons take years to mature and cost alot.. As for breeders I think there is a breeder in Sanson (but unsure what they breed because I didn't see much when I was there) and suspect they could supply Welly..

    Gba

Good luck My bristlenoses used to breed non-stop in my african tank.. Now they've stopped for the last few months I have no idea why or how to start them again.. Maybe its just a waiting game who knows?
  10. I always keep bristlenoses in the tanks and have had no problems... Sometimes they get chased a bit but as long as there is somewhere for them to hide they should be fine.. Again probably depends on individual fish im sure someone (maybe Mark) owns a brute of a fish that will seek and destroy them thats the joy of keeping animals.. Sorcha hope they are pure Just keep an eye on them if they start colouring up randomly (ie some of the spawn come out different colours) or all the babies don't look like tiny versions of the female then cull the lot. Although it is a right pain in the ass you really should seperate the fish out and make sure they are breeding true..

    Jumping Neon

Sorry to hear about your neon.. Happy to hear about your flag's they're cool fish im hoping to get some one day, have you got any photo's?
  12. I had added whitespot cure and didn't have any trouble I used it weaker than suggested though as i had clown loaches and bristlenoses in the tank.. I wouldn't add meth blue to any tank I liked its horrible stuff and stains everything.. What are you trying to treat?

    Super Selco

lol if people know what it is or know about it they will reply Demanding an answer is likely to get you replies that don't help..
  14. Awesome im glad to hear you got one Also glad to hear your buying a bigger tank and a friend im sure they will love you for it..
  15. Yeah it was but the gold male packed a sad and beat up the 2 blue boys and stole her lol.. Hopefully I can raise them this time they should be hatching tomorrow
  16. That photo is awesome Mark thanks for sharing Those peacocks have settled in and coloured up well also, very happy owe you and Nav big time!
  17. Generally I leave the fish in the tank as long as they aren't getting bullied.. After 2-3weeks take the female out and strip them. If you don't want to strip them then you can stick them in a small tank with some rocks in it and let them spit themselves but they can get pretty run down doing that, however if you have more spare tanks you can fatten her up again before sticking her back in the main tank (rearrange rocks etc). Congratulations and good luck you are going to need many tanks.. Also keep an eye on them, its very unlikely another fish muscled in on an auratus's female but if any others did it should be quite evident as the babies mature.. Do you have any other melo's in the tank?
  18. the parents are in a BB tank helps keep it clean... I removed the egg's within a few hours of spawning, they are in a baking bowl (one of my fish ones) sitting on top of one of my 3 tier stands (heated fishroom) with an airstone, so far only one has gone white they should be hatching tomorrow.. What did you do to yours? Did you leave them with the parents?

    Jewel cichlid

The eggs and therefore aggression wont last long I wouldn't worry about it.. And blue rams shouldn't eat anything but a new born guppy, I had a pair in with my guppies to keep the population down and they didn't cracked me up.. Are you doing daily water changes in a BB tank to get the discus to grow without stunting?
  20. Your fish will live happily in a chilly bin, rubbish bin, large plastic container from warehouse etc with their heater filter etc.. Like living art has suggested I believe barrie the resident glassier said that silicon cures at 1mm per day or something like that so I guess if you stuck a thin layer on it may dry within a day.. A hairdryer or the like may dry the surface layer but wouldn't go too deep.. Also you may want to ask yourself why it has happened, silicon has a life and if the silicon has perished a quick patch up wont work so well your better off to reseal the whole thing
  21. That was my understanding on the whole thing Heres hoping the male stays alive long enough to be bred back to! I am hoping that having a gold longfin will eventually produce blue longfins as well but I am unsure where it comes from and how it occurs geneitically. At the very least im hoping to breed some nice blue rams that might produce some gold babies
  22. Crap angels with africans.. Thats a first! Its obvious from the photo that the fish is handling it fine and things are going well.. Personally I wouldn't do it as the odds of it not working and the potential for things going to crap very fast and angel's getting killed is high.. But would be cool to see..
  23. Jewels are pair forming fish, they will not work in a harem like africans or some dwarf cichlids will.. The pair will beat up and most likely kill any other jewels in the tank they will be more aggressive towards their own kind than any other fish..
  24. If your really worried use hot water from the tap as well to bring the temp up.. But for a 10-20% water change the water temp wont change much anyway I wouldn't think?
  25. I would call them long fin, I haven't seen a ram like this before.. But I haven't seen everything, the tail is also long and flowing kind of jagged not just extended top and bottom.. The eggs made it through the night with none fungusing.. So thats a good start.. I believe that is how it goes too Livingart, if they get a random colour or trait they inbreed the crap out of them until it gets pure, thats got to make them somewhat weaker.. I also managed to get some awesome cockatoo's off a very good local breeder who crossed them back to wild they're colouring up nicely so hoping they are pretty hardy
