  1. lol no need to buy it just make your own.. Shrimp + cooked veges + gelatine + garlic blend it up until the pieces are small enough flatten it out in fishbags and snap off pieces as you want its awesome and my fish have had it as their staple diet for ages
  2. Yeah unsure how good for them bread is, from memory it can swell and cause obstructions that way.. Mine get all veges you can think of carrots, beans, peas, broccoli, lettuce etc.. Then I blend most of the veges with shrimp to make a frozen mix too.
  3. I chuck lettuce in my tanks too occasionally but as livingart has said there isn't much in it, and whenever I feed it doesn't look like much more than lettuce comes out so I don't think they're getting much from it...
  4. Looks like a good hatch rate The tank looks good in the video too.. As for how much is too often you will never know until you give them bloat unfortunately I fed some cheap flake food once and gave 2 fish bloat that was enough for me but have been getting away with feeding a large variety with no problems. It is hard because food is only one of the contributing factors towards bloat there are many other variables just thought it might be something to bear in mind although I have hardly ever had a problem with it.
  5. I think its a very blue ram, very cool Thanks for the pics Chin have been through all the threads and had a look at them, am very glad to see one african in the photos! Did you get any of the dwarf cichlids?
  6. They should all eat it? My adults eat decap I don't know if brineshrimp can cause bloat but dems are vego's so I would feed it very infrequently.. Mine only get decap every few weeks.
  7. Just have to agree with that Good work on keeping them alive and good work on the spawn!

    $2500

I think people try their luck sometimes.. You just don't know his sales pitch might just work and he might just make 2500 out of a pair of fish that is probably worth $6-800, guess something is worth what someone is willing to pay
  9. Yeah they would probably be fine, but once breeding would very quickly over populate it.. Another option would be jullies (my breeding pair are in a 45cm divided portion of a larger tank with a heap of babies). If you are convinced on brichardi then look into the daffidol (pulchers) same temperment and similar look to the brichardi but IMO alot better looking. I got a heap of pulchers for breeding a few years ago but unfortunately ended up with 2 males don't know what happened to the rest lol.
  10. Yeah y connector would be messy flow rate would be different between each tank and then how to you get the water back into the filter? You would have to overflow it into a sump and have the filter take the water from there, but then canisters are not supposed to like working at a head (ie taking water from the sump and pumping it up into the tanks. The easiest way I can think of to do it is to push the 2 tanks up together and drill them or modify the end so the water can flow between them then stick the filter inlet and outlet at either end.. I am using siphon based overflows in the fishroom at the moment to enable me to use one heater on several 2ft tanks and increase volume/stability for the tanks. It is not very reliable and takes some setting up to get it all right.. Pllus it would take a huge one to flow the amount of water an FX5 can create.
  11. Yep plenty of ways to do it.. Overflow through to sticking the 2 tanks together and drilling through both of them silicone them together or using some sort of fitting to join them..
  12. Guppies don't tend to cross with sword tails.. But mollies and guppies can as can swords and platties, as with all cross breeding it is not recommended as it dilutes the pure strains.
  13. Sexes of kribs (and most dwarfs) are determined by water conditions they are spawned/raised in. "The only issue with breeding Kribs that needs thinking about is the pH problem mentioned above. For each species there is an ideal pH at which equal numbers of male and female fry are produced. If the pH is too high, more males and produced, if the pH is too low, more females are produced. It is entirely possible to end up with batches containing just one sex, and such batches are difficult to pass on to aquarium shops." From http://www.wetwebmedia.com/fwsubwebinde ... hromis.htm So I wouldn't be surprised to buy a whole heap of them and end up with all males or all females depending on what PH they were bred in, can easily be controlled by breeder (if they had the desire or knowledge).
  14. 20 at the moment ranging from 5ft to 1ft.. Have a few more that will be put in when the next fishroom rebuild occurs
  15. Yeah I would say they are getting along because they are small things may well change as they grow especially in a 3ft tank
  16. Have to agree there the tank looks awesome There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of rocks for having that sort of number of babies survive so your doing well More rocks should help, but as you have said fronts are great nocturnal feeders (guess it makes sense as they tend to live quite deep where it is darker) and babies sometimes drift from cover when sleeping so they may still gobble them up.
  17. Sounds like typical cichlid behaviour, the jewel thinks the tank is his and you added some new fish into his turf. AS per usual when adding new fish, change things as much as possible, move all the rocks/pots/plants and even do a big water change etc.. If your really worried rearrange tank and introduce new fish just before lights out and then turn lights off to allow new fish to adjust before scrapping for turf.. Who knows if they will settle down, sometimes they do, sometimes they kill each other or the picked on fish spends its life hiding in terror..
  18. Have you changed food or overfed recently? I had the same problems when I was feeding a cheaper food filled with phosphates.. What is the water supply you use for your tank?
  19. Gutted mate I am very sorry to hear about your losses But also glad to hear that some survived, keep a good eye on them over the next few days for whitespot etc as changes in temps can cause issues..
  20. lol nah there are some dodgy ones out there I was just wondering if there was a good source of them out there, typical story when one person breeds some rubbish and passes it on it puts into doubt all fish of that strain.. A little birdie tells me there might be some good ones popping up in Chch in the future though.
  21. With a 300L tank you have enough volume to slowly build up stocking levels monitoring ammonia etc levels to make sure you don't have any spikes..
  22. Yeah I have to agree there, I always put some guppies in the dwarf cichlid tanks to help them feel confident, they steal most the good food meant for the cichlids but are worth it with how much more settled the dwarfs are with them in there.. Sometimes you can get away with removing the dithers once the fish have settled enough. On another note where did you get your red shoulder severums from? Are they the hybrid ones that are being sold? Or did you find a good source of them?
  23. That's not a bad way to be I am not convinced from using stress coat in the past that it does anything, same with melafix.. The main problem is noone actually tests these and we just have to blindly believe the petstore person who sells it to us or believe the packet.. I would just keep up with the water changes, and maybe add some salt to help your fish keep an eye out for any infections (particularly eyes if it has had a bit of carpet time) and treat them as they occur.
  24. lol I think that FX5's are still rated at 3500LPH, I don't know how good it would be on your planted community tank.. Id say you might end up with a filter filled with guppy fry and plants? Is anyone else running an FX5 on a community type tank and how do they find them?
